Likewise, far too many monkeys out there.

I didn't fit new discs, my old ones were fine, and my bearings were an extremely tight fit, as they should be. Maybe I just got a duff one.
-
They're almost new T1-Rs and have been balanced recently, it droned before and after balancing :(
-
Yeah I'm thinking its most likely the rear bearings, they were GSF ones Steve! They were fitted fastidiously by me and my dad, not overtightened etc, etc... It seems bizarre to me that they exhibit no symptoms apart from drone, they don't even get warm on a 100+ mile run, no roughness or excess play. I think I'll change them again, there not too expensive after all.

My trim that surrounds the radio, heater controls, switches and storage compartment is cracked right through in two places (this might explain a few of my rattles!). Where can I get another one from, anyone know if they are still available from the stealer and or a part number?
-
This is really weird now, changed the front n/s bearing, droning no different. I've already changed my rear bearings yet the sound now seems to be coming from my back n/s wheel. You can actually 'feel' the hum through the wheelarch/strut if you sit in the back seat and put your hand on it. The bearings are newish and exhibit no excessive play and spin with no roughness, can they really be buggered with no symptoms apart from drone?

I've done 3 sets of VR6 springs now, standard to Konis/Eibachs/H&Rs and had no need for spring clamps. You just need to be sensible, there's a small amount of energy stored in the fronts but the backs will drop out ok.

I doubt he was implying anything blackcat 8) , the reason he asked was because you ideally need a 20 ton press to put the new bearing in, its not the kind of thing that most people have lying around, most people will get the housing off then take the complete strut and hub to a garage to press it in. It can be done with a vice but its not recommended at all. I'm doing my front left one today and I'll have to take it somewhere with a press too.

There are definately two types of rocker gasket mate, I have a spare one at home that wouldn't fit my 95 VR6 yet it would either of the other VR6s I have owned.

Do solitudes weigh much less than speedlines?

Arrrrrrrghhhh - Alternator Buzzzzzzzzzz from Amp???
andy replied to PoorMansPorsche's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
I had this problem last year, make sure your earths are very good, ie bright shiny metal. My problem eventually turned out to be a duff amp that was only discovered by substitution by another one. A good test is to remove the RCA leads from the amp and see if the speakers are still buzzing. That way you can identify if the noise is on the power supply cable or the signal (RCA) cables. -
I've got a 96 VR6 too!

Nick did changing the wishbones help with the crashiness? Agreed with you on the road quality thing, it's p1ss poor. Mine doesn't suffer with vagueness, just harshness.
-
Yep bumpstops are trimmed, its Kevs old setup. It does handle very well, I just find it a bit embarrassing to be honest, when I've got a passenger and hit a drain cover it lets the car down. I've had three people comment lately. It feels great on a good road, corners superbly, most impressive then ...crash, it feels like I've just driven of a kerb, not clipped a manhole cover. I know the perception is worse because of the Corrado's rattley interior but I just can't beleive they came out of the factory like it. I don't mind what it costs or how long it takes but I need some improvement.
-
I suppose its more of a jarring than banging! I think its the rattles that make me say banging! (something else I need to look at) It's just unreasonably harsh over drain covers etc
-
After peoples thoughts/comments on the Corrado's ride quality. Basically my car rides nicely on a good surface but is frankly bone shaking over drain covers and railway lines etc. Is it just mine or are they all the same, were they like it from new i.e. is it just a characteristic I have to live with. I had a Golf VR6 before the Corrado and that was the same, they've both been properly alligned etc but really do bang and make me cringe sometimes, I go over the same surface in another car and its hardly noticeable. I tend to forgive the car its harshness because as we all know it does a lot of other things very well but it does p1ss me of a bit tbh. I don't know how some of you guys can run 17s and massive drops, I'm on 15s and Konis/H&Rs, and although the ride has stiffened up since fitting them the low speed town driving is only as unpleasant as it was on the 4x4 original suspension. Is there anything I can do to improve matters, would changing the rear axle bushes and front wishbones help? I see photos of some gorgeous cars on this forum and think, it looks nice, it obviously goes nice, but it would ruin everything if it rode like mine....! Whats the answer chaps?

My car is droning, it varies with road surface but is very noticeable sometimes, it's mainly between 20 and 40mph and sounds to me like its coming from the front left hub (although I know it's easy to be fooled). The most distinctive symptom is that it goes quiet if I turn the steering wheel to the left but it drones in the straight ahead position and worse when the steering is turned to the right. Does this sound like a wheel bearing? The car has four brand new tyres and full allignment done today, it did it on the standard suspension and now it still does it on my Koni/s /H&Rs, its been there a month and is driving me mad. I have replaced the rear bearings within the last year so it shouldn't be them. All suggestions appreciated.

Indeed I do, no PM received but...I can't see either part no on the springs, they do say Golf III VR6, they are Green (Well under the dirt!), they have the following numbers on; 29872 VA and KBA-Nr 90445 I can't see any other numbers on them, can anyone tell me where any other numbers might be, e.g stamped somewhere?
-
Thanks mate, I think I've got a second hand one coming now, local too!
-
Update! I have isolated the fault to the Drivers door handle microswitch, looking at it, it doesn't look like the switch is replaceable, only by replacing the whole handle. Where can I get one of these from sharpish?
-
Whats the deal with insurance, are you insuring your second cars as a separate policy in its own right? If not who are you with insurance wise as my company want a whole new policy starting with 0 ncd etc. Its the insurance that stops me doing it, especially as I just happen to have a 205td pug sat in the drive.

Mine's back in today for screen no.2, fingers crossed......
-
I reckon as Kev says you must have an early vento, that's why it fits in your early corrado. You could take a picture mate yes, it might help get to the bottom of the sunroof saga.
-
Still the fact that the Vento roof had a six wire motor makes me think it would fit in a later Corrado ok as well, bl**dy hell it gets complicated!
-
Fitting an early 3 wire motor on a late sunroof may well not be a problem, its fitting a late motor on an early sunroof thats the problem, the early roof has a 2 or 3 inch indentation which a late(slightly bigger) motor won't sit in. The early motor (being smaller) fits in that indentation whereas a later motor will only touch the cogs in the roof by a mm or so, not enough to drive it without skidding.
