Love the colour of your car Miss 20VeeT I have one just like it :turn-l: I messaged you yonks ago about car colours as I was contemplating repainting mine. I am sticking with the yellow now. Although I have to say there are not many good examples of yellow corrados about, it seems to me that stick skirts and the like on them make them look 'too' yellow. Anyway, your car is looking very smart. How are you finding the DTA management system? Has the cold start and the idle valve been set up? Ian
  2. I am fairly certain the VR hubs wont just swap straight onto the G60 platform. The VR uses a wider track Plus axle setup and has different bottom ball joints and stuff. I think what you could do (apart from redrilling your four stud for 5s) is to push the centers out of the hubs fit them into your G60 hubs. That way you get the 5 stud with the 4 stud hub. i cant remember what the implications with drive shaft outer splines are though, Hopefully the G60 outer CV joint will be identical to the VR one and you will be laughing, otherwise you will need the VR outer CV, then that may not fit the G60 drive shaft, so you will need the VR drive shafts, which are an inch or so longer each side, so you will need the plus axle setup! But looking on the bright side if you need the plus axle setup you wont need to p1ss about swapping the hub centers over! its a tough one - all depends on the spines on those CVs Some one on here will know if they are the same.

    6-speed Box

hi, to those who have fitted the 02M gearbox to there corrados - what drive shafts did you use? are they dificult to fit? I had some custom ones made up when i did my mk2 6 speed setup - the mk4 shafts didnt fit (and I was running the wider track VR front end) Ta
  4. all friends again :) so in conclusion to the topic am I right in saying that the general consensus is that the 20vT can produce big big power figures for a relatively low cost, but the VR engine has - dare I say it - a little more character?
  5. Right then, I will share my musings with you all. Before I start this is not having a go at anyone especially you Ruffy, so you can pick your dummy up off the floor and get back in your pram  I started of with a 2ltr 16v mk1 which was very nice but a bit raw. I then bought Stealths first ever 20v turbo mk2 golf, which was nice and refined and quiet, but I found that the characteristics did not suit a smooth driving style. The problem I had with it was that although there was next to no lag the power was still non linear ie, at a certain throttle position, at certain rpm, the power delivery fluctuated dependant on what the engine had being doing previous. Its hard to explain but after driving the thing for a year it was starting to get on my nerves. Anyway I fitting an 02M 6 speed gearbox to it and it accentuated my perception of the problem (which isnt a problem really its just my opinion) it turned the car into a proper racer with the throttle being more like a switch. Anyway I as fond as I was of the car I sold it, and bought a corrado VR6, which I absolutely loved. The thtrottle response of a turbo'd engine cannot compete with the clean crisp response of a large capacity NA motor. Add into that the VR howl and I was converted straight away. Yes you have to rev the VR a bit more to get it going (in standard trim) but that isnt a problem, the power is there when you need it and its instant. I say Loved the VR cos it got nicked after 4 weeks of ownership..... I now own a mk2 golf VR6 and a project V6 4motion corrado so in conclusion: 1.8T + more power cheaper (a big plus if ever there was one) - its not NA, non descript engine note VR6 (and hopefully V6 24v) + silky smooth, crisp throttle response, lovely engine growl and howl - produces comparatively low torque figures low down rev range compared to 1.8T Although I hear the variable inlet manifolds help the VR minus point somewhat.
  6. Now then Mr Horrocks, You get everywhere dont you (like Agent Smith) I might be calling down over the weekend to pick that timing chain up off you Ian

    Chipstar

Hi all, I am looking for a VR corrado to start my new project. (but that is another story) I am currently have a mk2 golf VR6 as a runabout. I was quite disgusted when I bought it because it appeared to have the alarm brain tie wrapped to the underside of the eibach strut brace which I couldnt honestly believe. Anyway I took 10 minutes this morning to relocate it when I realised that it is not an alarm but infact a ChipStar piggy back ECU. It was totally disconnected. question 1. Does anyone know if these are any good? is it worth wiring up? question 2. Has anyone got one fitted to their VR? did it make a difference? I am toying with the idea of supercharging my project VR (when I get it) and wondered if I coulf utilise this little beastie. The only reason I can think of for it being disconnected is that the engine has had a set of cams installed to it and they have ben removed before the car was sold, which would mean the chipstar would be fueling incorrectly. Any thoughts on this would be welcome Ta Ian
