  1. hi domi welcome to the forum and hopefully you'll enjoy VR6 ownership........but i know full well what you mean about being paranoid  1)as others have said the VR needs to be warm(go by the oil temp on the mfa...aka the computer........ as the water temp guage is notoriously inaccurate) before having fun with it,i personally wait til at least 76 degrees C is showing on the oil temp before going over 3k revs 2)the spluttering could also be the coolant temp sensor if this is goosed then it will fire in too much fuel and make hot-starting a complete nightmare, and also can affect cold staring too......well mine did   3)could just be surface rust on the discs first thing in the morning or the pads are going to need replaced soon.....though remarkably enough for it being a hi-performance sports coupe......brake pads and discs are reasonably cheap to replace 4)well my normal running temp.....this is going by the "very highly accurate" water temp guage is just above the 90 degree mark.....sometimes even hitting 110 degrees......though when the car is plugged into VAG-COM its only showing 98 degrees when the guage is at 110 degrees as long as the fans come on when they should and it doesnt use water then it should be ok...........but also be aware the cooling system is kind of like the VR6 engines achillies heel and needs to checked frequently 5)it more than likely is just a dodgy sensor but it could also be related to your problem number 3

   please seek professional help then jim  :-P :-P :-P
  3. well as your "buying" a higher-performance car and bear in mind that your £4k budget is "limiting" you to higher mileage VR's these will all be in need of some sort of remedial work......hell i bought mine from a lexus garage nearly 3years ago for just over £10k and it still needed some bits sorted in my first few months of ownership(h/light switch, aux.coolant pump,cam.pos.sensor,thermostat and a couple of other wee repairs)if your thinking going from a BMW 318is into a cheaper C VR is going to save you money then i'm afraid be prepared to be disapointed......i used to own a 318ti(so basically the same engine as yer coupe)and although i kept it dealer maintained it was a fair bit cheaper to service than my C VR
  4. my bro-in-law has a nice tho rather dear one........W4STE...........funnily enuff he's in "waste management"
  5. spotted a nice one on the M1 on the way up home yesterday.....G45KET......funnily enuff it was on a van for a company that do gaskets 8)
  6. .....BADGER BOOTS...........think we're getting a bit OT here matey :-P
  7. Your's does stand out tho Rodders, especially now you've got the roof rack and that shiny new Ladder on top! aye thats cos i'm LADDER happy mate :-P   .......btw you've got a slate missing on yer roof

  10. skid has some nice tasteful pics of 1 of the laydeees draped across Lumley's aka lucylu's Golf VR here's a taster
  11. i take it thats a typo :?: .........should be 321bhp
  12. cast yer eyes in this direction as we have a nice "wee" buying guide for C's :) http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5124 as for yer budget £4k should buy you a decent C VR6 but it will no doubt be over 100k miles and need wee jobs done on it......as more than likely you'll be looking at 10year old examples at that price range
  13. and very well deserved too mate! 8) 8) 8) 8).............as i said to you when i met u on the saturday, that the TT dash(in a Corrado) wasnt my cup of tea........when i actually saw it in the flesh and seen the execution of the work i must admit it is just totally AWESOME......... 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
  14. sounds like maybe an over-enthusiastic broker to me :? more interested in getting a nice earner of a premium than making sure that you are covered properly............the insurance company will if you have the bad luck to be involved in an accident try and get out of paying if its found to be that YOU are the one driving the car the most........building up your no-claims will be the least of your worries.......as G60Jet says this is a "wee" loophole they are cracking down on
  15. dubster82 had a few dents taken out by whoever was at INTERS last year worked out to be approx £40 and IIRC that was including fist-sized dent in his door along with a couple of other minor dents........well worth the money

  17. the other scary thing about it too is............it had a leather recaro interior!!!!!!!!......just wasted on such a tw@t
  18. another way to check is get a garden type spryer-thingymajig......and spray this around the coil-pack with the engine running(preferably in a dark area)just a fine mist should be enuff to show it up  ........any sparks or arc-ing will confirm that the coil-pack is kaput.........as for miles........i think its more to do with age and the fact its in a fairly hostile enviroment so goes brittle with age etc
  19. the infamous coil-pack  strikes again perhaps????/
  20. maybe they are........then again speeding is also illegal but we all do it
  21. especially on the steering wheel :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P
  22. Ah, I suppose so. The fitters I spoke to (a few years back) would only stick it on autos. Maybe manual-start kits weren't around then, or perhaps they were just bulsh*tting me  there's a guy up near here with remote start on his Honda Accord TYPE-R......which is manual-only AFAIK
  23. yeah was thinking that too nigel....even having his dad on as a named driver surely £1200 is a bit low even TPF&T    for someone so young......unless he's maybe getting mixed up with his dad being the MAIN driver rather than as a NAMED driver........FFS my old boss's son is paying just short of £2k fully comp on a S-plate cooking ASTRA and he's got his dad on as a named driver too
  24. oh deffo most of the time autocar are spot on whereas autoExpress are normally way off
