hi my vote is forgetting to put the oil in!! mistakes happen im afraid.... check the oil, if its really clean and doesnt look like its circulated a dirty engine then id be passsing the bill onto them whether you trust them or not... it happens.although you imagine the warning light would get noticed!! another possibility is forgetting to tighten the sump plug and its deposited the oil somewhere, or even the filter not tightened or the drain left off! either way check the oil! hope im wrong though! andy

hi kev try some hankook ventus v12! superb tyre at a great price! search for reviews on tinternet if your unsure! thought id recommend them after you recommended the old ku15 to me! again a superb tyre sadly missed! been trying to find a suitable replacement ever since they stopped making it (along with the old favourite re720!!) andy

im with you on this! scrapyard tuning!! the vw car empire must have some usefull parts to improve older cars but its going to be one hell of a list as many obvious items are well....obvious! such as larger brakes suspension bushes etc that most people allready know about! im currently trying to increase my rear roll stiffness! does anybody out there know if there is a stiffer rear beam that will fit the corrado without resourting to antiroll bars? ie is a passat one stiffer or a newer seat version that is stiffer? who knows!? andy

hi i changed the seal easy job! bit fiddly to get the metal (brass or something soft and similar) disc that holds it in you have to file the peaned over metal away to get it out but it is doable! i used gpt seals in stafford just called them with the sizes! they didnt have an exact match but by using two seals it was easy to get around that! cost around 20p per seal or something daft!! they were very helpfull the dizzy "isnt repairable" from vw so the seal isnt availiable but the dizzy is an exchange item............why is it exchange if it isnt repairable? anyway easy job i found a guide how to do it somewhere on tinternet cant remember where but ti is out there! good luck andy

hi sorry to reopen an old thread has anybody tried to fit the 12v plastic mk4 manifold to a corrado obd1 surely its possible? moving the airbox aint too tricky and you could use the obd1 injectors and loom just a case of sorting the variable control flap and grafting on the obd1 throttlebody! cheaper tahn a shrick and its still a vw part! just wondering! cheers andy

hi did you do a compression test before diagnosing the head gasket? also its worth checking the coolant for combustion gasses (pop to a local mot station and ask nicely for them to sniff the header tank) if you havent checked these items then its difficult to accuratly diagnoise a head gasket failure without first checking the oil cooler on top of the filter housing as the symptoms ie water in the oil and vice versa are the same! if the cooler has failed (this might just explain the loss of oil pressure too!) hope this helps andy

hi im looking at audi 80 coupe at the moment! pretty good looking car i reckon and im wondering......do they do a 16v quattro version in which case..will a 4 cylinder 20v turbo lump drop onto the gearbox its not very heavy so understeer will be reduced (compared with the huge heavy 5 cylinder hanging out the front anyway!) and chipped to i dont know 300bhp with quattro!! mmmm just i thought that im having at the moment, probably stick with the corrado for a bit as nothing else really gets close for the money grass is always greener and all that! andy

hi as a compromise to the expensiive r888s the honkook rs2 could be worth a punt at £60 for 205 50 15 at camskill i love them! they start at 6mm tread depth mind!! but i find them a good compromise between a full trackday tyre and road tyre andy -
hi my vr6 has a sticker in the corner of the windscreen (i think its on the n/s where the chassis no is on newer car which states the weight at 1280kg which sounds about right from the info so far andy

hi with all this talk of remaps and cams ive got some kent 264 regrinds fitted (still got vw part numbers) does anybody know how similar they are to these 263's if at all, and is it worth changing? i didnt want to make my engine too "peaky" with 268's as my rev limit is standard with no remap i didnt see the point! also on the subject of remaps i thought motronic had adaptive circuitry which may remove the need to remap with light mods! i know after thrashing around curby my car seems faster on the drive home and gets gradually quicker through the day! also it doesnt drive very well for a week or so after taking the battery off! obviously a proper remap is a permanent solution to the constant thrashing! cheers andy

hi does oil go "off" at all as ive got a shed load (literally) of mobil1 0/40 that ive had for about 5 years now but im thinking its a bit thin for a 150k vr6 so im using fuch titan xtr 10/40 semi syn, which im told is a good oil and is quite cheap as i use alot for my other service work so i buy it in 20litre bottles is this oil suitable for a 150k vr6 that is occasionally tracked and sees oil temps of 130 deg? im guessing its at the top end of the scale for this oil!? but i use about 2 litres a month so its constantly refreshed!!! is it worth trying the mobil or will it just burn it even quicker? also ive heard that mobil1 doesnt burn with blue smoke is this true? also our pump oil is mobil super syn 5/40 would this be any better or i have got access to some 5/30 synthetic cant remember the manufacturer but its "sm" graded but im thinking really too thin cheers for any advice andy

hi i know for a fact that the newer 170bhp bora v5s have 312mm front disks cant say for sure about the golfs should be the same though! my bora has the 312mm fronts and vented rears if its got solid rear disks then its probably got the 288mm fronts as i had a 150bhp v5 bora previously that had the 288mm fornts and solid rears hope this helps andy

hi oh please dissuade me from buying an alfa gtv v6 gorgeous car with the teledial alloys momo leather etc its the only car that i think yes i could get one of them instead of the corrado! but what about the reliability surely they cant be that bad!? its the only car i would consider giving up the vr6 for!!! andy

hi has nobody else had this problem?! ive managed to cobble together a mount from an slk but wondered if anybody else had found an alternative many thanks andy

hi guys ive recently purchased a 2nd hand magnex cat back system part no xsvwc6 or rsa-vwc6 or d24v01m2 theres three differnt numbers which seem to corespond to fit a vr6 corrado after '92 mine is '93 and it seems as if the centre section will fit but the backbox bracket is the wrong way round and in the wrong place it kind of twists upwards in the centre of the box pointing front to rear and the one on the car is too low and fits accross the car!? am i a victim of having the wrong hangers or am i missing some sort of fitting kit? the hanger on the body is removable with 2 bolts so is it possible to get one that will allow me to fit my magnex i thought all vr6s were the same design please help my mot runs out in 3 days!! many thanks andy

hi how can you even consider breaking a car without finding out for sure what the dodgy noises are? might just need shells for heavens sake! take the sump off and find out! dont write the poor thing off untill you know for sure that its fubar! also im pretty sure that its goin to be cheaper to rebuild a g60 bottom end than install a 20v or buy a tt! and frankly im yet to drive another car that drives like a corrado yes for sure they creak abit but when your leaning on the rear bushes and feeling the rear wheels steering nothing comes close! steering feel!? whats that in a mk4 golf audi tt audi s3 etc? just my 2p! andy

hi just a quickie has anybody had any problems fitting 90/130 and 130 watt bulbs in the headlights (obviously with uprated wiring) i was just wondering with the reflectors being plastic has anybody managed to melt them? time will tell if the alternators upto the job......approx 37 amp drain with main beam on!! by my calculations! cheers! andy
-
hi you were right it was me missreading my multimeter ive got a constant drain of 0.8/9 amp and i was right it is my headunit! the problem was whoever fitted it used the constant live for both the stereo and the stereo memory if that makes sense!? ive removed the headunit and frankly its a shambles with a nightmareish collection of bullet connectors so im now going to wire it up propery to the ign live which dies when the key is removed and only wire the memory to the constant live! so basically my headunit was live all the time even though the face was off! mindyou the ign live cable is smaller than the constant live also anybody know where the ign live is fused? going to put an inline one in anyway just wondered tahts all im hoping that its going to cure my battery drain many thanks for the help sorry for the delay......im a bit slack!! andy

hi smart car.............truely truely truely scary!! gutless, monumental understeering, slow gearchange causing a pitching backwards and forwards, no acceleration onto islands the clutch just slips and slips and slips as the car you tried to beat closes down on your drivers door you appologise and continue your jerky, slow, ponderous travel to oblivion!! terrible car! and people buy them.....why? andy
-

hi guys my 74 ah battery goes flat after about 4 days is this normal? ive checked the drain with a multimeter and its 0.07amp with 0.05amp caused by my alpine head unit!! does this sound normal or is my head unit causing the problem (ie is it faulty?) i dont know where the other 0.02 amp is going but my best guess is the alarm, ive pulled all the fuses and the only drain is the radio circuit! surely it doesnt need much current to store my presets and the time?!any ideas? many thanks andy

hi this is going to be a bit vague..... im sure ive read somewhere that maplins sell an ultra sonic cleaning machine thing for "cleaning jewelry" and im wondering if it will work on injectors too! as i recall people sending injectors and things away to be "ultrasonically cleaned" if my memory recalls!...im probably wrong ,if i remember the machine wasnt very expensive andy
