Help / advice please, my car has been damaged by someone
corozin replied to Andyrado g60's topic in General Car Chat
Think ive just pi55ed myself Agreed. Act of God my arse. An "Act of God" is normally something like a lightening strike, or a meteor fall. Exploding windows just don't count. If you were able to get the "Act of God" defence in writing from this company, you may have a legitimate grounds for complaint to the Insurance Ombudsman. It's worth knowing that you can complain to the Association of British Insurers, the Insurance Ombudsman, Area Trading Standards, and the Motor Insurer's Bureau if they continue to try and string you along. It sounds to me like this "insurer" are a group of Cowboys... yeeeehaaaa!! p.s. Oh... and you can sue them as well :D -
Help / advice please, my car has been damaged by someone

Report the incident to your own insurance company if you havn't done so already. They will go after the third party insurer. If you have a witness (the lady behind you) who suffered similar damage I don't see how liability can be an issue. Insurance liability is based on the concept of proximate cause. What this means is that in the event of damage, the person who was responsible/insured for the original action or incident that caused your loss is the person liable in law. The key element is that there must be an unbroken chain of events linking the proximate cause and your own loss. On that basis, f the van's window blew out, liability lies with the van's insurers. It does not matter that the van did not actually hit you - the debris from his van did hit your car and cause damage. If the van's window had not blown out, you would not have suffered the damage. The third party insurer is on a complete blag here. I assure you as soon as they receive a threatening letter from your own insurers they will pay out, as this would last about 4 minutes in court. Good luck, John -
Nice action! Using 99RON should add a couple of BHP to that at least. I was going to say I agree 100% with yourself and the earlier posters; it's essential to have the engine remapped when you have a VGI fitted so that the fuelling is set correctly. The car will pink at the bottom end otherwise I bet you're glad you kept the Corrado now eh ? :D It's a wolf in sheep's clothing with 226bhp...

Hey JonRB - Out of interest Jon what numbers are you making now? (PM me if your embarassed by all that power!) Am interested as the Nothelle will be going into Stealth on Good Friday for not-disimilar work to yours to be done, although I'm having a VWMS VSR fitted instead of a "shrek" John

Hi Craig, Sorry I don't have either the knowledge or facilities to help you with this, but I do have a contact number for an excellent local (and decently priced) mobile mechanic in case you need it. PM with details sent as I'm away for the rest of the weekend John

You ain't joking... good quality aircooled Beetles are worth more than average standard Corrados these days :(

The MkV R32 looks like a bread van, and I suspect the RSi will... look just as bad! Give me a MkIV R32 anytime. Also - the MkV RSi (and R32) will be subject to £400 road tax next year. I think that alone will kill the sales stone dead. R.I.P.

It's not all crap on Wiki you know : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_engines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VR6_engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:V ... _platforms

I'm sorry but I strongly disagree. It's almost impossible to drive a car at 100% on any public road without considerable risk to either yourself or other road users. Real drivers take it to the race track - be that in Trackdays or in Competition. You'll also learn more about performance driving skills in a single afternoon on track that you will in a whole year of street driving. Just IMHO of course...

Thanks for Alan White's details... that's going straight into the phone. I can also personally vouch for Alan. He has more experience and skill with VW engines than any other independant I can name - bar none.

How many Corrado's were sold in the uk???.......
corozin replied to Balti Pie's topic in General Car Chat
It's now 11 years since the last one were registered. I personally very much doubt if even 3,000-4,000 are left now. I've been responsible for the "deaths" of two Corrados myself ! -
I'm a regular (spectator) at Gurston Down and whilst I agree with your comments I am bound to say that you won't get into entry-level Motorsport for a lot less money than you'll spend if you go to Gurston. However if you don't want to do Gurston (you wusser!) and want to try proper circuit racing I'd suggest you try contacting either: a) The BARC - I'm sure they can give you loads of advice on how to get started b) The 750 Motor Club - this was recently recommended in PPC as one of the best/cheapest ways to sample competitive motorsport. However you'll have to buy a racecar to compete in that, as your Corrado is outside 750MC rules! c) Try contacting Castle Combe circuit. They have a number of "amateur" club racing series based at thier circuit designed specifically for people stepping up to racing from Trackdays. I think you only need a National B licence to do some of them. However once again I don't know if you'll be able to use your Corrado. There's a popular club series for 3-series BMWs for example HTH, John (and hopefully see you at Gurston this summer!)

If I were you I'd get that tax done tomorrow Roddy, because if he increases Road Tax it will be with immediate effect - I got caught out by this 4-5 years ago and got stung for an extra tenner. And no - it doesn't matter what the amount on the renewal form is - check the small print - they can increase it if Brown increases it in the Budget :(

First off, Im not a bloke and I would happily take over any duties asked of me regarding the CCGB. Secondly, Eric's comments were mostly generalised about comments various members have made recently, not specifically about my enquiry which was originally asking if anyone knew where our copies were. I emailed the general club address to ask this and then a second time when I had no response. I didnt at any time question Vicki's abilities or the committee's abilities of running the club as I received a confirmation email back from vicki regarding our new address details and even mentioned this to Eric. I merely asked Eric if he knew what happened. He then looked on the system and read out our old address and told me to email vicki's address with my query. As stated in vicki's email, she did not know what list he had. Not once did I actually put blame on anyone for this situation I was just trying to find out what happened. I have never complained about the CCGB nor will I ever. I understand the stress and strains of running a voluntary club like the CCGB. I merely had an enquiry. I have obviously caused a problem by asking a question and I appologise for that, I will never enquire anything again. I cant honestly see how my one question to the club generally has led to Vicki resigning, it cannot honestly be just my single question being forwarded to her that has led her to this decision. Hi Nikki, YHM

That is really awful Eric. Vicki has been an absolute rock to the CCGB for a number of years now, and it is tragedy that some muppet (even if it is a member) could upset her to this extent. Ironic also that Vicki doesn't even drive - her other half Chris owns 2 Corrados and she did the job cos she liked the people in the Club. Perhaps the member who caused the problem would be willing to step up to the plate and replace Vicki and run the membership himself? I bet they don't volunteer... As you say it's tough when you try and do the right thing and volunteer your own time (free) to help run something like this and extend your hobby and try to do stuff for people. Too many people are ready to criticise & complain, and too few (alas) willing to stand up and try to contribute. A damn shame...

To be fair to Golf+, it's not totally thier fault the magazine has gone downmarket. It's mostly ours - we didn't buy it enough... PVW began chasing the MaxPower type readership and "The Golf" (as it was then) began to lose readership - fast. Even now PVW still outsells Golf+ 4:1. Anyway they had no choice except to change thier editorial style to cater for the new audience requirements (read : "bling motors") and try to grab back some of the circulation they'd lost to PVW. Mind you (and I'm sure Bill has much stronger feelings about this than I have) when you see some of the chavs who increasingly attend VW shows it's not surprising that "The Golf" lost readership... a lot of them couldn't string a whole sentence together, let alone read a tech article in "The Golf" At least I have Practical Performance Car to keep me company these days :D - it's well worth checking out if you haven't read one before.
-
I don't know why you bothered to write them a long letter. "You're a tw&t and Steve Kirk never used to write rubbish like that" would probably have done the job nicely :D If they want the mass debate question that's on everyone's lips they should try "Why isn't 'The Golf'' any good any more ? LOL
-
Well "Aston Martin back in British hands" is probably a bit ambitious, considering most of the money is from a Kuwaiti venture capitalist and a Texan Aston enthusiast... "Americans sell Aston to the Kuwaitis" would probably be more accurate !

So what happens if you have a aftermarket (non ABS) braking system fitted? Surely they can't fail the MOT for that can they?
-
My understanding of the situation is that this is one of those items which is tested on the "warning light" principle. As such, if the light/panel appears on the dashboard then it must work as intended. Therefore it is not enough to remove just the bulb from the light - you have to remove the whole unit. Aside from that it does not matter if your ABS sensors/ECU/pump are all present or not. Those are not tested on the MOT. The only thing that matters is that the dash warning light works if it is fitted to the car. HTH John

Owner had the car for 4 days... what a tw&t...

Quickest car you've been in, owned and most interesting....
corozin replied to NickVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Well the nicest car I've been in is a Ferrari 550 Maranello. Before I had opened the door for the first time, I had always thought they were a lot of money for what they were. However once you've sat inside one, you understand where all the money goes... there is an instant "atmosphere" inside the car. From the perspective of this forum, probably the most interesting car I've been in was as a passenger in Ken Lark's VW Cup Corrado VR6 at Snetterton about 5 years ago. Noisy, bumpy and actually it didn't feel that fast, but when we overtook a Ferrari F360 (which was going as fast as it could) around the outside at Coram in the wet I could see where the performance came from! Absolutely magnificent ! -
Hmm... **Mod Edit - Attachment removed**

No, I said I thought it was in bad taste. Fozzy Bear never tried to blow people's faces off with parcel bombs to get a thrill, that's all.

It's the photo of the guy they arrested last week for sending letter bombs to the DVLA and about 5 other places...
