  1. And unlike the silouette cars on show at Autosport Int (see other thread) Spencer's dragster did actually start life as a real Corrado. V8 dragster engine has about 900bhp IIRC, and runs easily in the "8.90" dragster class. He's a great bloke too.
  2. Mingers? I've seen a few... including "the best Corrado in the world" (the white one)
  3. They roll that Corrado out at Autosport every year. There were 4 of them there last year in various parts of the venue. They get raced in a number of oval formulae (the shell is fibreglass & fits on the spaceframes used in those formula. The engine is (I believe) a Ford Duratec 1600cc lump, which is a sealed unit supplied to all cars in the championship. In fact modifications are very limited in these formula - it really is down to the driver. If you keep an eye out on Sky Sports, they occasionally show these racing on "International Motorsport". I've seen them a few times. The real monster Corrado is Spencer Tramm's dragster. If you havn't seen it try a Google (images)...
  4. The flame-baiting still appears to be in full force. This will make those of you who've read the thread laugh : http://www.grapheine.com/bombaytv/v2/play.php?id=68416 http://www.grapheine.com/bombaytv/v2/play.php?id=68420
  5. I agree. McCarthy's book is not only one of the funniest books you'll ever read about motor racing, it's probably one of the funniest autobiographies in the bookshops 'full stop'
  6. I'm not 100% sure about the Scooby thread. I'm at work right now but I will see if I still have a reference for it when I get home. The general gist of it was someone said "I think gold wheels on an Impreza look pikey - what do you all think?" The problem started when a pikey actually read the thread and replied to it, and that's when the fun & banter really started ("Internet in a caravan?" type insults & endless quotes from 'Snatch' were going on). At one point the Romany association of GB started to seek a court injunction to close down ScoobyNet because the thread contents. It was a howler... I'll see if I can find it, although it may well have been deleted by now. Aside from anything else it would be a laugh to re-read it
  7. Radical SR3 1500cc, 250bhp. Built in Britain Do I get the free poster as a prize ?
  8. No disrespect intended to this forum, but I have to admit that in 11 years online the 'net that is the second funniest forum thread I've ever read. (The best ever is still the 'do Gold wheels make my Impreza look Pikey?' thread on Scoobynet back in around 2000/01) If you look around the 'reach' of this is immense, as this dickhead is fighting flamewars not only on sussexcarz, but also on the SX owners club and the Surrey Jap Club as well. On top of that the thread is being discussed on Pistonheads, and it seems as though some of the posters on there (who are active Police officers) are also taking an interest.... This is turning into as near as the Internet can get to a Darwin incident I think! LOL
  9. Check this idiot out http://www.sussexcarz.com/forum/upload1/showthread.php?t=19267&page=1 But more hilarious is the flamewar that's in full progress.
  10. The rear wing on the SLR does indeed rise under heavy braking, but it's not an air brake per se. It's purpose is to move the centre of pressure of the car rearwards under heavy braking to make the car more stable. The rear spoiler on the MacLaren F1 was there for the same purpose, but on the F1 the driver also has the option to deploy the spoiler manually (does this sounds familiar) to aid traction. I'm not sure if the SLR has the option to deploy the spoiler manually or not. It's a possibility given that MacLaren built both cars, but unlike the F1 the SLR has a traction control fitted so maybe it's not necessary have have a manual option. .... I've answered the question but I'm not sure I'm any wiser!
  11. Funnily enough I havn't seen that tripod device around Bournemouth for a couple of years now... I wonder if someone nicked it or ran over it with a truck? The barstewards seem to mostly try and do you from the van these days. I agree with what you say about the positioning of some of them. The permenant fixed camera on Talbot Road & Glenfurness Avenue catch me out because they hidden behind trees...
  12. I agree. I bet some kiddie is trying to recreate them using B&Q laminate for his Saxo as we speak!
  13. This is interesting. It occurs to me that even now the list of cars with "active" spoilers is still fairly small. The cars I could think of (in rough date order) were: o Porsche 911 (starting with the 964 model onwards) o Corrado o McLaren F1 o Mitsubishi 3000GT Turbo o Chrysler Crossfire o VW Beetle 1.8T (it has a little active roof spoiler) o MacLaren Mercedes SLR o Bugatti Veyron I've discounted cars like the F40 & Enzo, which change thier aerodynamics at speed by lowering the suspension automatically. They don't move any bodywork surfaces. That's all the ones I could think of. Can anyone think of any more?
  14. Oh I agree with you there... makes a mint set of BBS RS look like a sound investment don't they !!
  15. Actually at $5,000 per wheel they are CHEAP in terms of custom motorcycle wheels. It's not uncommon for bespoke rear billet wheels for show choppers to top $10k-$12k. Indeed the "hubless" bike wheels pioneered by people like Billy Lane and Mike Brown have special ring bearings which are the best part of $10k just for the bearing parts! I'm just wondering if we'll ever see a set of these lexan wheels fitted to one of the Club Charly's lowriders later this season... if anyone fits them it'll be one of those guys I think
  16. Tripped over this website a few days ago. Great application of new technology to develop something really different, although I'm not sure about the costs involved! Apparently they went down a wheeze at SEMA. http://www.forgiato.com/radurra/index.htm
  17. Wow. At least you're big enough to own up to it, and not change it into a "smacked my nose into the windscreen" accident Like (I suspect) many people I have to admit that I have in the past (and I'm talking 15-20 years ago now) driven once or twice whilst over the limit... not much but it was certainly enough. To tell you the truth the experience of not being in full control was so scary that I learned very quickly not to touch a drop. In that sense, I can understand if someone who is a similar age to the age I was then makes the same mistake as I did, and is unfortunate enough to have an accident. However it seems clear that in this case this isn't the first car he's trashed whilst wasted and as such clearly hasn't learned his lesson and as such is a complete tool.
  18. If the original poster had any balls at all he'd shop his "mate" to the feds and get him off the road. It's a sign of how stupid he is that he posts the info onto CGTi's forum as if he's proud of it... me? I'd be ashamed to know someone like that.
  19. I treated mine to what it likes doing best... a full tank of fuel and a record breaking run home to Bournemouth from my brother's place in Milton Keynes on Xmas night. Distance = 134 miles Time = 1h 36m Do the math... :D
  20. Holy fuggin shyte... what an abomination. Hang on, he's only 3 miles away in Poole. I'll go over with me hammer and straighten both him and his crappy car out. One pile of scrap metal coming right up...
  21. My car generates loads of downforce, but only when I'm sitting it it :D
  22. Are there enough anoraks available in the UK for all the pedants on this thread ?? :)
  23. Volkswagen used to claim that the rear spoiler increased downforce by around 30% at 100kph when deployed. Although it's not a big spoiler, it elevates into an airstream area immediately behind the car where a "swirl" is pushing down just above the tailgate. As for standard vs lowered cars, a lowered car will not suffer so severly from underbody drag so should be a slightly more aerodynamic (as air which would have gone underneath is directed over the more slippery body surfaces instead) but I doubt you'd really notice the difference until you were anywhere near the car's maximum speed. John
  24. These debates aren't easy because Foose & Coddington generally work in different styles. Personally I prefer the older style 30's-50s hotrods, which are more of a speciality for Boyd. I also think that Foose has ruined a number of his project by fitting wheels which are too big. Bit "pimped" for my tastes. But each to his own... I vote for this as just about my favorite of all time
