  1. Well for what it's worth I think black wheels on a Black Corrado are great. A really menacing look. Also if you havn't seen/heard footage of this Corrado I suggest you download some and experience it, as it sounds like no other VR6 I've ever heard (and I've heard a lot of them in my time!). The exhaust note is stunning. John
  2. Spotted: Black G60 on M5 Southbound at Exeter last Friday (run to the Sun). Clear rear lights, 17's, very loud exhaust! Looked like a family in there. Went screaming past me as I joined the m/way at Exeter, but saw me & slowed down to let me catch up until I had to turn off onto the A30 (I wasn't going to the Run to the Sun!) Anyway, if it's someone on here, nice motor, & nice action! Hope you had a good weekend. John
  3. Yeah Trimsport are the people for this. I'm sure they also used to do a Corrado type badge as well as the VR6 variant - it's worth asking about these as they're not on the website. John
  4. Most VR6's I've seen run in the 15.4s - 16.0s range. That 14.97 time is v-e-r-y quick for a standard car. Of course the timing at Inters has been known to be "a little out" in some years. John
  5. Yeah I've seen 330mm AP 6 pots on a Corrado before, but it's not a common sight. The kit was something like £1800 last time I looked and there are a number of solutions out there which are a lot cheaper than that (like... all of them!) John
  6. Indeed. It's now becomeing clear that these ceramic brakes are giving a lot of owners some real headaches. a) The discs are cracking when used hard, due to overheating of the disc b) Owners have been complaining that they basically aren't any better than steel brakes At £6,500 for a set of replacement discs & pads some dealers are apparently recommending owners to fit steel brakes and store the ceramic brakes until they sell their cars. Ouch! Porsche are reputedly looking into the problem, and are even considering redesigning the front of the 996 to channel more air to the front brakes. At least 996/GT3 owners have the choice of switching. Owners of the Carrera GT dont (apparently) John
  7. My routine: a) Remove all the stuff out of the boot (Stereo etc) and from the shelf too as many trackdays won't allow shelf mounted speakers for safety reasons. b) Make sure all your tyres and brake pads have plenty left in them. Get a set of spare pads as Paul says & take them with you in case. Make sure you know how to chsange them! c) Carry a box in the boot (which you can leave at trackside while you're out) containing : Socket set, screwdrivers, spare coolant, spare oil, spare brake fluid, a selection of Gaffer/duct tape (in case a hose goes). Also take a tyre pressure gauge, a pump if you have one. A trolley jack can make things a lot easier too if you have one. d) Before leaving make sure the oil is up to the top mark on the dipstick (prevents oil starvation) and that all the other fluids are up to the mark, including the screenwash. e) Make sure all the wheel bolts are torqued up correctly. f) Check the condition of your brake lines. Your brake fluid will get get hot, and is capable of exploiting any weaknesses in the lines to cause a failure. g) If you have/can get a small fire extinguisher, fit it into the car just in case. h) After a run don't just come off the track and park the car & switch off, do a "cooling down lap" as you come off, park the car somewhere flat, without the handbrake on (which can seize if you apply it to very hot discs), pop the bonnet with the engine running and just let everything cool down for a few minutes with the engine ticking over. That way all the pumps & fans will continue to pump the fluid/air through the engine bay and cool the internals properly. i) Find out if a tyre service will be available (in case you really muller a tyre), or where the nearest place to change them is if they aren't at track. Most well organised days will have a tyre fitter available with most sizes to hand. j) Make sure your AA/RAC cover is paid up! k) Above all have fun, work your way into the speed gently (ie don't try and set a lap record on your second lap!) and remember that Audi owners hate being overtaken by Volkswagens  especially owners of Audi TT's who seem to get very upset for some reason (I think it's cause they think their cars are quick or something!) HTH - wish I could be up there with you but the new dates weren't right for me (I'm up on holiday in Leven in 4 weeks time) :( John
  8. I thought that Porsche brakes are made for them by Brembo? I think they are are super way to improve the safety of any car, plus they give you a much better chance of avoiding the the local Speed Cameras, as my "incident" last December on the A35 proved (came across mobile Gatso on dual carriageway whilst going faaaar to fast, and managed to shed >50mph in just 100yrds to get under the limit and avoided getting a ticket. For me, they were worth the cost that day, as I'm sure I would have picked up a significant ban if I hadn't been able to shed all that speed. p.s. I learned my lesson and now drive sensibly everywhere - honestly  John
  9. Setting them on fire gets the biggest laugh from me, simply because the damage is so visible to everyone in the weeks afterwards. When the one down the road from me was torched last year I did consider making up some little "flames" signs to stick onto the local "Camera" road signs as a bit of an additional laugh. Wish I'd done it now as the picture (with burned out Gatso in the background) would have been hilarious... doh John
  10. Yes. They are stunning. Alex Pose-Gil will confirm that. Remember the Corrado weighs a bit less than a Porsche 911. I once managed to mildly whiplash my g/friend by braking too hard with them. That said I already had coilovers and strutbraces fitted, so your point about the chassis is probably valid - in a car with stock suspension you'd generate a possibly dangerous amount of dive under hard braking. John
  11. Brembo 328mm conversion with 4 pot caliper (silver calipers are now apparently a cost option) p.s. There barely fit inside 8x17 wheels
  12. That camera on the M11 isn't near a junction AFAIK, and happily clocks up the most fines of any camera in the country - apparently they regularly have over 2000 a day through there Your comment about them being a "cheap" fix is true though. Here in Bournemouth there is a bit of road near to the pier approach where pedestrians cross over the road (and late at night pissed up clubbers fall across it) What is depserately needs is a traffic light or pelican crossing, but as you've probably guess the "Safety partnership" have decided to put a speed camera there instead. I'm fully expecting people to still be mown down in droves in future, although admittedly the cars that kill them will probably be doing 30mph instead of 35mph in future - some comfort to them I'm sure. Either that or the camera will get torched (and it woudn't be the first one in this town to receive that award) John
  13. Don't suppose you could email me hi-res copies of the first two could you (email to mailto:[email protected]) The silver VR in the first pic is Andy Brookes' recently acquired VR6 (Hey Nigel - he finally succumbed and bought another one!) John
  14. How cool is this ? (groan!) http://www.carpages.co.uk/volkswagen/vo ... =912522090 John
  15. Go to the Castle Combe Track Day on July 24th and take your car out on track - no Gatso's there :)
  16. Well eventually people give up being persecuted for doing +2mph over the speed limit and just stop going to the event. It was always a fvck sight better event before it was run in Wales anyway. Despite what you said about the rally drivers I have to say I did agree with the copper who stopped Tommy Makinnen driving his car on the public highway back to service as it was unroadworthy - I mean the thing had a whole wheel missing off it!
  17. If you think it's bad now, wait until they put microchips in your numberplates (which is currently being proposed to combat crime), force everyone to carry transponder in thier cars (for road pricing/crime prevention - currently being evaluated by the DoT) and force everyone to be fingerprinted for biometric ID cards. Oh, and they want to introduce e-voting & text voting to make it easier (but they'll also be able to tell who you vote for as a conventient by product). This isn't fiction, it's actual technology which is being proposed by the Home Office / Dept of Transport in white papers which are out at the moment. George Orwell's "1984" could turn out to be ultimately propheti, even if he did get the date wrong In the papers today there are articles showing how the Government is going to use the current post 9/11 anti-terror legislation to deal with any possible public protests over the upcoming increases in fuel protests... I have to say that I completely despair reading this, as it reflects all the civil liberties concerns which were conveniently sidelined by the Gov't as part of the "War on Terror". Politicians are saying this war is to protect our freedoms and way of life, whilst at the same time placing increasing restrictions on those same freedoms and increasing surveillance on thier citizens. Take care who you vote for next year. I'm all for anyone prepared to give me civil my rights back. [/rantover] John
  18. Two thoughts to add to this: 1) The Alfa will be a little quicker in a straight line than the Corrado, a friend of mine who's driven both cars says the Corrado is much nicer under braking and through the bends. The Alfa is a little nose heavy by comparison. 2) If you think your Corrado is unreliable, try the Alfa. You won't complain about the Corrado ever again. John
  19. I have to agree with you that that was quite shitty - a warning would have been as effective as a fine. Cheap fuggers
  20. Given that so few Auto Storms were made (only 20 in each colour) have you considered putting a VR6 + Auto back into it? It would certainly have a rarity value that might eventually translate into residual value (auto VR6 Corrado's are fairly rare beasts anyway) JOhn
  21. The sprint times normally get posted onto the Autometrix website a week or so after the event, so keep a look out. I certainly saw Keith Murray do a 10.28s earlier on Saturday, and am fairly sure the 0-60 was quicker - a 2.36s or something. Just for interest, the first of those clips that were posted (vs the MkIV Golf) the Corrado lost 14.92s vs 14.95s but Ian (the driver) told me tonight that that Golf had around 350bhp, wheras the Corrado runs 220bhp in the VW Cup. Later in the day he got down to around 14s as was stated, but could have gone quite a bit quicker if he'd not been treating the racing box with a good deal of mechanical sympathy (ie he was using the clutch when changing instead of crashing it) Of course that Corrado will pi$$ on just about everything on a circuit, including that bi-turbo R32. Bhp ain't everything... John

    21MPG

Paul, The other thing you can consider looking at is the Lamda probe & associated connections as I understand that the ECU automaticaly defaults to "safe" mode (i.e. 15mpg!) if there is a problem with that. Just a thought. John
  23. I have to say I think the Corrados managed to whupass that show really. a) Jay's G60 (TT dash, Porsche rims & interior, old skool touches everywhere) b) Ben's 4WD 20v Turbo on the Club stand c) Guy's supercharged Storm, blinging like never before d) The Corrado dragster Were all highlights of the show for me We also had one of the best/biggest club stands (still trying to work out how the UK MkIV's won the prize!) and had more visitors to the stand than any year I can remember. Attached - pic of the VW Cup car going up the track John
  24. Please help! If anyone has any photos from Inters that they would be willing to email to me, please get in touch. I'm particularly after Corrado pictures of course, and any of the CCGB Club stand especially. Unfortunately I left my camera in the hotel on Saturday (durr!) and the Sunday weather + judging etc put paid to the rest of the weekend. If you have any can you mail me at mailto:[email protected] Many thanks John
