  1. Tony, I know someone who has a new (unpainted) front bumper & front wings for an early Corrado for sale cheap if you need them. Send me an email direct if interested and I can put you in touch. My mate still had them all when I saw him at Inters. Cheers, John
  2. Take care - the first manhole cover you pass over I think you will be f**ked. John
  3. I did a little over 23k in 2002. About 3,200 miles of that was just travelling to VW shows in the UK!
  4. The show was moved to Bentwaters primarily because they were offered a cheaper rent by Bentwaters' landlord, but also because of all the flak they got over the layout & access to the Wroughton show in 2002. I know this because Neil Birkitt (editor of VW Driver) told me so four years ago when the annoucement to move to Suffolk was first made shortly after the Wroughton show. It was also hoped at that time that the new location would make it more attractive to the Europeans. At that time I expressed reservations about the Bentwaters location to him as I knew how far out it was, and I have continued to say this during other conversations I've had with him about the show during the past three years. Simply put, the location is way too far out in the sticks, and anyone who has tried to find non-camping accomodation up there for the weekend will testify as to the difficulty in trying to book accomodation within 20 miles of the place after around January. The weather has also been pretty poor every year (I believe the current tally is something like 4½ rained days out of 6 in the last three shows) and whilst you can't really blame Autometrix for the weather, it does seem that the region is rather wet compared to everywhere else at this time of year. A20LEE is also right when he cites the increased numbers of shows on the calender as having an impact. It's no longer enough to commit a lot of time, mileage and money to a weekend show like Inters simply because it used to be a great show. If people are disappointed with a show, many just won't return the following year and elect to do a different one instead rather that hope the poor show is improved. The numbers of attendees, show car entrants as well as clubs going to Inters each year is now clearly in a downward sprial which may not be reversible IMHO. I'm not sure what all the answers to this problem are but I am sure that the remote location is probably 70% to do with it. I just hope that Autometrix do look for a new location for 2006 as it would at least show they are prepared to put up fight for show-goers. If not then I fear it will just peter out which I think most people would agree be a damn shame given the event's history. Oh well... only a couple of weeks to Stoner Park now :)
  5. There seemed to be a couple more traders since last year but IMHO the crowds were well down - the smallest I've seen at Inters. The weather was competely crap yet again - pelted by hailstone & rain on both days. Everytime the sun came out and people finished leathering thier cars down again, it pi$$ed down all over again. The public car park is so far away that many people are now stumping up the fee for Show n shine just to park close to the action. The concours entry was miserable with the majority of the classes only having a single entry. Clearly the date conflict with Worthersee took it's toll with practically no euro cars attending and a many well known UK owners away too. There is no doubt in my mind that the choice of location for this event for the last three years has now killed it. Last year E38, Stoner Park and GTI Festival were all a lot better shows IMHO. I agree with everyone who says E38 is now easily the premier VW event in the UK. That said I had a great weekend catching up with with everyone who I saw up there. To a large extent you get as much fun out of a lot of these shows as you're prepared to put into them, but moving the location somewhere closer to the centre of the UK and not getting drowned everyday helps a lot too. John (enjoying a day off)
  6. Your best bet is to go to the VW Driver Trackday, which is normally in July. It's not a "monkey's day" like the CCC type events normally are, i.e. the driving is generally of a high and considerate standard which is what you want if you are just starting out Tickets are not available yet, but details should be available on http://www.autometrix.co.uk/ from around April onwards (the date on there at the moment is last year's event!) p.s. If this is your first event make sure you get some time with the instructor as it'll get your skills and confidence up quickly. HTH John
  7. Guy's Storm has had remote start for like 3 years! I'm amazed there's anyone out there who hasn't seen him demonstrate it :) I've been encouraging him this year to try and put a "clapper" into the remote start circuit so you can start the car by clapping twice nearby but he hasn't done it yet.
  8. I know that Tom Ingram fitted a glass Passat sunroof panel to his car when he owned it - was pretty much a straight swap he told me & it fitted perfectly. As for the mechanicals I've been told that "the bits that break" on a Corrado sunroof can in fact be replaced with MkII parts (not MkIII) but I've not been able to verify that independantly. John
  9. I''m going to defend Toyos as a wet weather tyre. I've never had any trouble with them in the wet, even at the two trackdays I've done where it's rained. This view is also reinforced by a whole stack of magazine tyre tests over the years, which consistently place the T1-S in the top 25% of performers in wet tests. 2p spent... ker-plinck!
  10. I wonder if Mike 's memory goes back the AmD Rollling Road Day back in April and the development MINI they had in the workshop. BIG turbo, Nitro, 330mm brakes.... 285bhp without NItro, 365bhp with the NO2 kicking in. Oh shit I think I want one too now :D
  11. You'll be pleased to know that Paul Kippax (he of the concours winning black VR6) was filmed last week. I understand the show is going out in December sometime. Top bloke, top car. John
  12. Paul, You need to remove the trim from the centre tunnel inside the car behind the handbrake. There are a couple of adjusters there,. John
  13. I was a "customer" of Sterling Insurance / Adrian Flux about 4 years ago. -~ My Experience ~ o I took out & paid for policy in January 2000. Got nothing in the post except a single covernote. o In February I put a personal plate on the car & they tried to charge me £25 "admin fee" for this, despite the fact that I was still on a covernote (so the cost is actually zero) - a fee subsequently dropped as soon as I questioned it. o In March I received a producer from local Police, and got in the shite with them, as Flux had not issued any more covernotes or docs so I had nothing to produce, and it took THREE ATTEMPTS to get a valid covernote from them, putting me well outside the 7 days for the producer. (The first two covernotes had the wrong vehicle reg on them, despite my checking it with them each time I called). Needless to say I had to do some "dancing" in the Police station to avoid receiving a charge for non-production of Insurance. o By May I still did not have any insurance certificates from them when I had an accident two days before Inters (ran into the back of another car) o About a week after I had reported the claim, I received a call from Sterling saying the Insurer (AXA) had just received my proposal form and money that day. By this time I had gotton quotes for the damage and had sent them off - the quotes for the damage arrived before the application form & cheque did (from Flux) o I then heard nothing for over 5 weeks.... no engineer to inspect the car or anything. o When I chased the claim the Insurer tried to repudiate the claim as (a) they'd not received the proposal and money until after the accident and so thought I was pulling a fast one and (b) they were querying some info on the proposal, which could and would have been rectified at the start of the year when I first took the Policy out. The issue was fairly easily resolved, but made a lot more complicated than it should have been because it was raised in the midst of the claim, but AXA still tried pretty hard to wash thier hands of my claim, because the paperwork had arrived after the accident. In the end I lost patience with the both of them and threatened to sue both Flux (for negligence and breach of contract) at which point the repairs "magically" got authorised. Needless to say at the following renewal, neither side were interested in renewing the business. It won't surprise you if I recommend you use almost anyone alse but them.... John p.s. In the insurance industry there are occasional horror stories of insurance brokers who take your money and then keep you on covernotes for a whole year, but fail to send the paperwork on to the Insurance company. The rationale is that if you don't claim, they keep the premium you paid as pure profit for themselves and the Insurer never knows you existed. If you claim - everything gets posted off asap. Now I would never accuse Flux of doing that in my case, but the whole episode was pretty disgraceful, and it certainly shouldn't have taken 5 months to post my forms & premium to AXA... go figure...

    VR6 Weight?

The answers are in the "specifications" section on the Corrado Club website. http://www.corradoclub.co.uk/specifications.html
  15. So has anyone receivede a response from Granada yet? Is anyone actually going??? I would have loved to have done it (free CCGB plug & all) but car too modified + living 250 miles away ruled me out :(
  16. Granada TV are looking for a Corrado + owner to film and interview for a Programme on Granada Men & Motors called "100 Most Popular Cars" They are looking for a proud owner who is willing to drive their car to the Granada studio in Manchester and then be filmed doing a quick interview about their car. The questions will not be taxing or too technical - they are interested in personal stories about the car and someone who can give some insight into why they believe the car should be in the top 100. They anticipate the interview taking around about an hour (weather and technical problems allowing). Ideally they are looking for a standard car (or at least standard looking). There will be no road/track tests required, just an interview + some stationary shots of the car inside & out so there should be no insurance issues. At no point will anyone either than the owner have to drive the car. Some contribution towards petrol expenses will be available, but if possible they'd prefer someone within shooting distance of Manchester in case bad weather etc changes the plans at the last minute, Unfortunately they would like to do the filming THIS WEEK, probably one day Wednesday-Friday. If you are willing to be interviewed about your car & why you think it's one of the all time greats then please email Kevin Forde at the email address below. Contact : mailto:[email protected] Cheers John
  17. They are rar Paul, and for that reason alone are a rather amazing sight if you come across one on the road as I did earlier in the summer on the A34. Looked fantastic - very low key. Even had a stock exhaust system on it !
  18. Looks like they're arguing about it fine amongst themselves without any of us joining in....
  19. Club GTi / TSR are organising have a track day at Mallory Park in a month or so I believe.
  20. Do either of you guys wanna convoy up to Longleat on Sunday morning with me? Will be leaving central Bournemouth around 8am as I have to get up there a bit early to set up (takes just around an hour to get up there from here) (Andy, I tried to call you about this earlier in the week but you weren't there) John
  21. How did a thread on Pug 180 vs VR6 end up as a fanzone for BMW's ? :) :)
  22. I'm going to defend the Sierra Cosworth. 15 years on it's still a tremendous car. There is an original mint white one which I've passed a couple of times on the A34 to shows in the past couple of years and it just looks phenomenal. The Cossie raised the bar for everyone during the 1980's. Until then "normal" cars had hot-hatch levels of performance (typically 8.5s 0-60, 125mph) but the Cossie pushed this into genuine supercar territory (6.s, 150mph). I wonder that if the Cossie had never been built, would VW have put the G60 or VR6 engines into the Golf & Corrado? What do you reckon? John
