Alloy Refurbishment in Glasgow..
TheWizardofOdds replied to TheWizardofOdds's topic in Suppliers Forum
Thanks lads. Strangely, one of my posts has disappeared on here! lpf33-dang,too late-I took the alloys there yesterday at about 2-ish. What's wrong with yours? Craigowl, thanks for the gen. -
If I didn't know any better I'd say that was intentional,a perfect strike. Have you had any run-ins with an ASBO avian family recently?

Alloy Refurbishment in Glasgow..
TheWizardofOdds replied to TheWizardofOdds's topic in Suppliers Forum
Hehe..thanks for the response and info Craigowl. Could you expand as to why you're not happy with everything?(is that refering to the substitute wheels?). I would prefer to leave my car with them rather than take off the wheels etc. as I can't leave the car on bricks.Any idea what the turnaround time is..a few days maybe? I'm aiming to have the alloys as close to brand new as possible, did they match the colour well on yours? I wont be making any jokes like you did either-it is injun country! -
As per the title-I'm looking for a place in Glasgow or surrounding area with a good reputation in alloy wheel refurb. My solitudes are absolutely knackered and need some money spent on them..anyone recommend somewhere?..I can throw 200 guineas at it. Thanks.

My Cars officially a Squirrel Mincer!!!!
TheWizardofOdds replied to H8RRA's topic in General Car Chat
I was really taken with the P2.Maybe I was looking for it,but its simplistic styling and nice lines reminded me of the Corrado-albeit a more modern take on one.And they're(Prodrive)not even going to put it into production the slags. -
I prefer standard-looking Corrados definately. Probably 99% are modified in some way,(wipers, air filter, alloys etc.)however small. And there's no denying that the biggest giveaway to the cars build date is the rear lights.Changing the rear cluster for something more 'modern' is one of the most popular mods-but one I don't understand.I think it serves only to make the Corrado look even older. The original lights are a big reason as to why I like the C so much. They're just cool as..

I'm in denial.

with the fear of coming off as a complete mook... who is Mark Hamlin?? :?: My Apologies. That'll be my dyslexia playing up again.Mark Hamill.I think, the geezer what played Luke Skywalker.Possibly.You are no mook.
-
I love Topgear-even if it is scripted. The labradoodle was so chilled out.Supercars don't do it for me though-I think they're gay.I also think monkeys are gay.
-
..As did Trevor McDonald and Mark Hamlin.

A few of the lads in my block of flats were discussing the merits of my Corrado the other day.The boys are brothers, roughly 14-18(there's 3 of them). When I first got the car I caught the youngest prowling around it.(bless him) So,the other night-and this to my amazement-they get into a stand up argument about the qualities/drawbacks to the Corrado.Whom I take as the oldest says(to his brother)"it's a classic car, waankstain." is met with the retort that infact it is "a piece of schitt." A fcukin piece of schitt,at that. I'm at the window(voyeur)enthralled. What's the verdict?..2-1 in favour of the Corrado, and that's from youngsters!
-
I'm sure they're pretty durable-it's the actual carpet you want to worry about. I would love to hear VW's account of why the Corrado is so high. It's insane-was there a reason for the unlikely ride height?..there must have been!.
-
Not bad if you live in Milan and your name is Liberace. As you're 22 you would get away with it.I do think in a mad way it's pretty cool.I would die of embarrasment(spl?)all the same.

I've got a Brera sat outside the house - mine for the day
TheWizardofOdds replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
I'm a fan of Alfas.I've never driven one,but I appreciate the aesthetics of the marque(as most Corrado owners will,I suspect). The Brera looks classy.I think one of the drawbacks of this model is supposed to be the driving position-I could live with that I'm sure.I think this is possibly one of the only cars I would consider owning other than a Corrado(note-not replacing). -
Undoubtedly a fine collection.A hideous waste of machinery though.
-
Anyway,undertake,and enjoy with impunity.The law allows.Almost.
-
Au contraire Rodney, that's exactly what I asked, why is it illegal? Alas,I know I'm not going to be 'done' for it,but a few passengers who are drivers have pulled me up for it.What gives?
-
Tasteless gimps.Understood. What about this 'slightly gay' business though?..please expand. Seems a decent enough car,I think there's better on the forum though.I'd feel a touch self-concious(spl?)getting in/out of this Corrado.I'm also over 30.
-
On the subject of undertaking being illegal(stingman 123)..is it? Many times I'm in the outside lane of a dual carriageway and the lady(in her 4x4)who is turning right in approx. 5 miles is ahead of me doing 40mph,I'm not hassling her to move but it's pretty obvious who's travelling here.If I speed up to 50,move into the inside lane and then pull out to the right hand lane(having safely passed of course),all within the speed limit, why should this be deemed illegal?
-
Nice photos there geezer,good job.

I like how this thread has morphed into a timepiece discussion. I know that the Raymond Weil watches are popular, but they seem a little old fashioned in their styling to me. My own preferance at the moment is a Breil number I got a couple of years ago.I would like another watch though, and wouldn't say no to a Panerai but the damn things cost about two grand.

You're quite right to do your research on the Corrado before buying-and the possible pitfalls of the mechanics of the model. However, just about any car can be picked at for lacking in some way-none are perfect. If you have a real longing for, or affinity with the car you will buy one regardless, as many have done here. As for the technical details, the people on here will help you in the right direction. My mechanical knowledge is zero. What I can tell you though, is that the VR6 is a pleasure to own and drive. If you do your homework and buy a clean example you will have very few problems if any.5 large will take care of that. The only problems I have had have been the engine stalling (previous owner used wrong spark plugs) on start up. Proper plugs-job done. Original wipers replaced with Lupo's. You will not get a better car for the money.

should i be geting beaten by these cars?
TheWizardofOdds replied to mistrall's topic in General Car Chat
It seems to me,that mainly Golf drivers actively initiate a race with me.This has happened a few times recently. One in particular goaded me.Driving on the dual carriageway on the way to work,I was on the inside lane doing 50 or so.This mug in his Mk4 Gti(why is it always a Mk4 Gti?) slows up beside me on the outside.I ignored him for roughly a nanosecond.I was late for work(as usual)and in a foul mood,so just dropped into 3rd and lit a cigar. From previous experience with the Gti,I knew I'd have him.And reassuringly I left him behind. This kind of thing has happened on numerous occasions, and I've been on the receiving end(Porsche 928,Saab Aero, chavved Prelude)more often than not.The grim realisation on their face that they've been 1995'ed is always the most satisfying moment for me.And my rear mirror. -
On my 10 mile trip to work I have been averaging 34 MPG(!).The drive involves dual carriageway and town driving.A while back,I was lucky to get 23/25.So,doing some research for the insolvent,I checked out some sites concerning gaining the best fuel consumption from your car.My tires hadn't been pumped up in god knows how long(the psi wotsits was shockingly low when I did eventually get around to it).I refrained from clutch control at lights(handbrake on if nec.) accelerated with more 'feeling',no engine braking, and generally tried to think more about my gear changes. From reading threads like this on the forum I know that these figures are only a guide, but still, there has been a marked improvement. Don't get me wrong,if some geezer drives too close behind me:he gets smoked. And if the mood takes me I unleash hell, but most of the time I drive like an old lady.Penury isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Very nice re-trim. I would like to get mine done in the near future too.11 years of untreated leather and hot/cold climate has taken its toll. However,of all the re-trims I've seen, none have been done to the original styling. Is this too hard to do? or is it just a case of people wanting their own style.
