agreed! Agreed too!! I think some people just like to have something to whinge about. I need my car and it has to have fuel to run (obviously) so I have to pay whatever price it is.

In the Bristol area diesel is about 92p a litre. I do about 400-450 miles on a full tank which costs about £40 ish. For arguments sake, lets say about 10p a mile, however at work I have essential car users allowance which pays 30p a mile. So in that respect I don't really care about the price of fuel...... On the other hand when it comes to the VR thats a different story, :roll: :(

No, I don't think so. You only keep any full years NCB that you have if you cancel halfway through a policy. Ask your insurer if you can 'freeze' your policy. I did it a few years ago when I didn't have a car for a few months, basically your policy is on hold and then when you get a new car you can start the policy again without losing NCB. Don't know if all insurers do it, I was eith Endsleigh at the time.

Seen a (blue?) j reg (g60?) on the road between Easter Compton & Pilning, in South Glos, a few times, I was in my crappy golf.

I had a valver and wanted to increase performance so I bought a VR! Go on you won't be disappointed :wink:

Can't you just take out a policy and pay monthly and then cancel it?

My 16v didn't really cost me much money in maintenance, just regular things like brake pads etc, but I've a feeling the VR is going to be rather costly especially as we're planning to have the head rebuilt and stuff soon :roll:

I think I saw swfblade today. Blue j reg G60, lowered with clear rear lights on the Flying Fox roundabout on the A5. ??? Was going to wave then remembered I was in my golf not the VR... Also saw the blue N reg Storm again in Leighton Buzzard.

There are a few little niggles that perhaps could have been designed better but once I get in and drive it I forget all about them and just smile and think about what a great car it is :D

Yeah it is a bargain. I just need a cheap runaround for a while, the VR6 isn't all that practical sometimes!! Even if the Golf lasts 6 months to a year I'll be happy. Seems in pretty good condition for it's age so hopefully it'll last longer.

To add to my growing collection of VW's, I now have a 1.9 TD Mk3 Golf in metallic grey, 115k - £600. Currently on our drive it looks like a VW forecourt, 2 corrados, a golf (I own these), an f reg T25 (boyfriends) and an l reg transporter (boyfriends mums).

Going to look at a k reg tonight -£650. As long as it lasts 6months to a year I'm not really fussed, I just need a car with decent mpg and one that is more than 5mm from the road and isn't going to get stuck in the first pothole I come across!!

I am looking for a cheap runaround and thinking of an oldish (mk 3) diesel golf, my maximum budget is £1000. Who knows about diesel golfs and what kind of things should I be looking out for?
