get the metal head gasket from the mkiv's. Higher compression, and no fibre to go pearshaped in a few years. Esp b/c of the hot spot in the rear cylinder bank.
-
might be time for a headgasket...
-
They yield almost nothing on a rolling road , except for heat. Get the cheap american ones from ebay. 1/2 the price. You will need to reinforce all the heat shields above it.

I got one coming in the post. I just need another bloody tranny to pop it into...

supposed to burn oil pooling in the intake. Never works.

The old Cat specs are in the faq here . The new ones are on cats website. Honestly, you can use any cam w/ forced induction, provided you can fuel them. Someone swapped his stock cams for Schrick 268°'s in a high psi vrt and they made more power higher up, just like in an N/A application. The key is aftermarket fuel management. The overlap was apparently not a problem. If you are simply going to use a turbo chip, I'd stick to the 256°.
-
I got them for about £200 a few years ago. Power is concentrated above 3000 rpm's. And lasts till redline. I have a turn2 intake and big valve cylinder head, so I never experienced just cams. Mind you, the 268° grind was dropped in favour of the 263° they offer currently. For what they cost, they are a tremendous deal.

I'm running Cat 268°'s. Love them, but havent had a chance to rolling road them yet. Cheap from the states if you can avoid VAT.
-
http://www.catcams.be . Belgians been selling them for quite a while. Not terribly easy to access. Great for old cams that wont line up.
-
is it sitting horizontally, or vertically? I was under the impression, that it wont work properly if not seated upright.

The Carbonio is well rated. I have a turn 2 , which is a similar design, but polished metal. You run the tube to the hole where the carbon canister was. You may lose a bit of low end torque due to decreased air velocity, but when you get on it, it screams.

I have been violated! - attempted break in!!!

Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Idiots dont realise u can break in with a hanger in seconds. -
These have been around for a long time, and noone other than EIP seem to get any gains from them. You lot have a freer flowing manifold already. I would sggest thermal managing it, and gasket matching it. Here is an archive of the famous Drader experiment. http://www.corrado-club.ca/tech/schrick-stock-eip.pdf

I have a 2mm oversized inlet 1mm oversized exhaust head in my car. With my cat 268°'s, she pulls like a raped ape.
-
more popular in the states. You need to bolt the flapper open so it doesnt get sucked into the engine. It's a bit overkill, but the Schrick is better flowing than the stock manifold.
-
It's a great combo, and a classic one, but very costly for wat you gain. I would sugest buying one of the cheaper brands of cams. I have Cat's , I'm not sure who sells them in the uk. If you can get the manifold and cams used, it may be more economical.
-
they can break off at the ends. I suggest you buy a set of Magnecores. I had a set on the old volvo and they caused tonnes of radio interferance.
-
Catcams? You can go up to 272° with no issues other than lumpy idle and horrendous low end response. I have their 268°'s with the thinner mkiv headgasket and have had no pinking, or valve/piston clearance issues. Sounds like bare malarchy. lol

Cat cams makes a set, but you need to pull the inlet mani off and everything to get to them. It's only useful if you have cams that are poorly machined and cant get them timed properly. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1264409 timing chain install faq.
-
Upon initial inspection, it seems like there is no provision for an EGR valve or Intake air temp sensor on the 2.9's. How was this taken care of in the later cars? Anyone swap one of these?
-
I will be buying one of those to match my mani in the near future.
