Breaking 1995 Corrado VR6 - 117k, Full Black Leather
ZippyVR6 replied to Purple Tom's topic in Cars for Breaking
Hi Chap. Do you have the top coolant hose still? the one from top of Rad to Top of expansion tank and into Engine? If so how much posted please? -
Wow. Just comeback from the dealers after enquiring about a VR6 Top Hose, as my Samco burst open. They wanted £112 for it!!! :confused4: I told him that I'd probably look elsewhere, as that was an extortionate amount of cash for a bit of rubber. I tried GSF, who no longer supply them, any one got any ideas?
-
Nice motor. PM me if you want any info about your car chap.
-
? Really? Just use the cops insurance, and let Accident Exchange sort you a car for the repair duration. Solved.

This is the reason I have kept mine for the last 5 years. It is a love hate relationship. but never before has my apreciation for a car increased with length of ownership. As you said, When it is running on song, and I have just dusted someone on an a road, or nailed it round a roundabout, then steamed up a dual carriageway there is no better car on the road as far as I am concerned. The VR roar is awesome. When something breaks tho, I want to sell it.......... until it is fixed again. The Missus hates me when it wont work. viscious cycle.

the little u bend one that goes into the crack pipe. Just perished, and in taking it off the plastic it was attached to cracked. Ah well. another week in Rado ownership.

Ok. First the good news. A cleaned MAF, WD40 round the Dizzy, cleaned along all the HT leads with GT85, Made sure all leads were pressed in place, and cleaned and reoiled the air filter. Then I took it to get some more fuel and put in some fuel cleaner too. There was one stutter under load when the engine got warmed, then the car behaved without fault for 170 miles, when on the way back from Cambridgshire a coolant hose let go at a healthy speed on the M11. Spent 6 hours getting home. The RAC had a look, and in the process of removing the offending hose, split the crack pipe, and then a flatbed back home. So at least I know the hesitation is gone, (for now).

Was it a Lead Issue.

Cool. Thanks guys. Both handy responses, I will try that, and also clean up the MAF tonight. Some fresh Fuel, of a higher quality that the 95 ron Tesco crap I put in before Xmas might help too. Update, Fresh Fuel, Checked the fitting of all leads, Taken for a good (25 mile) run, and It is better, But by no means cleared. I've had a read up about the MAF, and if it were at fault, the engine would have a dead spot rather than just hesitatuion. so I think that rules out the MAF being faulty. Coud it be a lead? If I just buy a number 1 lead, This is the longest, so I could rule out the leads one at a time.

Hmm, That is interesting, It was pretty Gacky, before I changed, it, There was a burned on layer of gack around where the King lead attached. But replacing the coilpack should have stopped it? I am looking into cleaning up the MAF, and conectors tonight, and putting some fresh better quality fuel in, Ill report back then.
-
What did you use to clean the MAF please?
-
Plugs all seem fine, No sign of build up on them? However, I realised when replacing the bolts to hold the coilpack in place, I did not re-attach the earth strap, Could this have any negative effects?
-
Cheers Kev I will as soon as it stops raining, But they were replaced with VW Platinum ones 3 months ago. so I would hope they are in good nick. Reading around the searches, I am tempted to clean the MAF too. What is the best thing for cleaning one? Would Carb cleaner do it?

Hey Del, Did you get any joy with this? I am in the same position, Have changed the King lead and coilpack after seeing an arking lead, But It is still the same. :mad2: Under normal acceleration it is ok, but when you ask for some power, it feels lumpy and hesitant. Also sat about 80 on the motorway, it is fine at a constant speed, but as soon as you accelerate, becomes lumpy and quite unnearving
-
Update. New Coilpack fitted, The Arking has gone but I am still getting hesitation and juddering under load. What else should I be looking for?
-
Cheers, But the V6's all have wood interior :pukeright: , and I swore never to go back to Diesel after my previous car. I dunno, It just bothers me having a car, I used to swear by its reliability, and now doubt it will make each journey without something else going wrong.

Been a few years since I updated this one. Corrado92.pdfIMG_4580.jpg[/attachment:2xirzgh1] One Musicman took. And Some bint down my old road did the following, passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSC00910 (Small).JPG[/attachment:2xirzgh1]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSC00911 (Small).JPG[/attachment:2xirzgh1] Still She Left a note so gt a good price from the bodyshop at work and had a partial respray.2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00916.JPG[/attachment:2xirzgh1]DSC00917.JPG[/attachment:2xirzgh1] including the bonnet chips accumulated from 120k of driving. Porsche quality bodyshop work  , and she looks ace again. Other than that 2010 was an apalling year for her. It started in Jan when the heater dial no longer worked on direction, and a rattle started somewhere in the back that I just couldn't sort. In a major service I had the rear bushes redone and managed 2 weeks of driving before I had a MOT fail with shyte brakes, followed by a 2 month period off the road and a grand bill to overhaul the brake system. Now the coilpack is playing up, but I hope that will all be sorted next week. Got to say thoughts of selling up have been strong this last few months. I have only managed 2000 miles this year. I just hope that 2011 is a bit better for her. as I am beginning to lust after a flabby Mk4 GTI with because of the aircon, MPG and fewer rattles! :nono: Talk me out of it please?

Have a search for VR6 + Coilpack. It is a fairly regular occurance, The plastic on the coilpack develops cracks, which arc under load. Mine has similar issues, just waiting for a replacement to be delivered. Looks simple to fit also. To check, open the bonet up at night and get a mate to tread on the acelerator so you can see if the coilpack is arking to the lead, but from your description I would hazard a guess that this is exactly the issue. Also you might want to check out this and similar threads. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=99299&p=1151342#p1151342 HTH

Hi All, Car was sat for 2 weeks whilst on holiday, and battery died. When I charged it up again, i had a lumpy idle, and hesitant acceleration under load. I believe it to be the coilpack on my 93, Dizzy Vr, as it was arking. Is this the right one to replace it with. http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volks ... 3aa87&IGCO

Toad, Thanks for the lead chap. Most welcome. I managed to unsnow the car today and swap leads over, then took her for a run. Same thing Im afraid. under gentle accelleration it is fine, but when you increase the load she splutters a bit. So It looks like coilpack. Looking in the searches there are billions of threads about replacing VR Coilpacks, so has anyone got any pointers on costs, or where to get one from. It seems the GSF ones are weak and lots of people have needed to re-replace them months down the line, and I would rather not set off down that road again. Has anyone got a VW part number for a coilpack for a 92/93 Dizzy VR or know what I am likley to need to spend at the dealers? Or, are the ones from EWurocarparts any better than the GSF ones? Is this the right one and is it any good? This one Many thanks.

Does anyone use these on their Rado. I have thought about it, but am more worried about the snowplough effect snapping my 90mm splitter, than traction. I was just curious as to how much a set of Steel, or sh1te wheels in 5 stud with the right offset, and a set of winter rubber might be.
