  1. It's gone. Flogged on eBay after a head gasket went and it got mouldy. Still, £960 isn't bad. Hopefully it'll look good when it's restored - Pete at Dubbers Sorts VWs (http://dubberssportsvws.co.uk/default.aspx). It's been emotional.
  2. Ok - spot on, I will. I think I've found somewhere who can do a good job as well - I guess time will tell. Thanks for your help.
  3. Has anybody had a VR6 head gasket replaced (and skim) by anyone in the Bristol area? I'd appreciate some recommendations as I've struggled to find anyone. Associated costs would also be useful if you have them. As part of the job, I was intending to get the chain tensioner done. Any other bright ideas to get done at the same time? Thanks in advance for your help. Just spent £700 on the bugger getting through the MoT before this happened!
  4. My dipped lights gave up on the country roads of France, so I had to tail my mate in his Karmann Ghia at about 5m behind to have any chance to see where we were going! I fixed it up by disconnecting the full beam bulbs and then locking the stalk on, because the dipped still worked with this. Got back to UK and swapped it back - nothing. Turns out the relays had both gone. Got them here - closest thing to a part numbers are: RLP/4-12 (12v 40A) both, made by Nagares, but I don't know who makes the new ones.
  5. I reckon there are about 10 in Brissle, a city of 300,000. I don't go south of the river much, mind! :2gunfire:
  6. Great colour, it's looking good. Is that a full-sized spare in the boot there? I thought all Cs had space savers. Or is that just VRs?
  7. It does sound good, and different to mine (which is standard). There must be induction or exhaust tweaks?
  8. Obviously a lot of money, but that's as ugly as sin. Yuck.
  9. Looking good, nice colour  Don't you scrape your chin on those SE London speed bumps?
  10. What's wrong with putting two of each on each side of the car? If they're different sizes, just adjust the suspension by an inch on the side with the smaller wheels. That way, you'll never get bored - park facing one way up the road and then when you get bored, just drive the other way down the road and park. Failing that, I prefer Speedlines. Are yours the original colour? They look different from mine, but then mine are pretty dirty, I suppose!
  11. A guy at work deliberately calls it a Scirrado, which annoys the hell out of me, but of course I don't show it! When giving a mate of mine a lift last week, he comes out with 'I didn't realise this car had so much poke'. Well, he does ride a pushbike everywhere!
  12. I guess it's there to show when a bolt has been undone, right? I wonder if it's just normal paint in a bright colour.
  13. If you don't let it set cookies, it won't do that. Or use a different machine, obviously. Try this: http://www.moneysupermarket.com/motor/d ... ce=AFFIS14 From pipelinecard.org I had a search, and my usual £470 was as low as £260. Renewal due in a few months, so quids in!
  14. Twas the link. Apparently went through the CV boot as well. Nice.
  15. OK - got through the MoT with a bit of trouble but ultimately OK. Now apparently a broken front anti-roll bar. We'll see... Next work has to be getting the wheels refurbished. Trouble is, what I thought was put away for that turned into a small part of a 10 day excursion snowboarding to Jackson Hole, WY. Oh well - can't complain, it was greeeaaaaat, despite the muddy arse!
  16. Hi Steve / Phat. Well that's what I thought - it must have been some torque / shear to snap it. I'll see if I can get hold of the broken part tomorrow. They're a pretty good garage but maybe don't always communicate as well as they could, so maybe they meant the links...
  17. Had a quick look on the search and didn't find anything definitive. Has anyone ever actually snapped their anti-roll bar? Garage reckon my clonking going round corners / through Devon sized pot-holes was due to a broken front anti-roll bar. Apparently it was 'coinciding' with the drive shaft, so my last 1500 miles were at a fairly high risk. Surely it's pretty thick - about 25mm? Thoughts?
  18. Thanks for your time writing all that out! I'll see if I can try all those possibilities. May take me a while!
  19. Nice one - what's the V64? As luck would have it, I have a spare pump which I was expecting to use anyway!
  20. Right. Persistant problem with the ABS light coming on was fixed by replacing an ABS sensor. Trouble is, driving a couple of miles brings the light back on again (and it's not a 12mph issue). The fault code is 01276, which the garage cannot track down, and nobody they've talked to knows what it is. Do any of you genii know what it is? You could solve a head-scratching problem for a poor, befuddled C driver. Help appreciated.
  21. Well, I might think so too, but another garage I went to who are supposed to be VW knowledgable also said there could be issues with an incorrect code... I suppose I could just get they to swap it over and see what happens.
  22. OK. I have had both my garage and vince at Stealth tell me that my ABS pump is the reason for the warning light staying on. I have sourced a second hand pump to replace the duff part, but my garage has told me that they would need to reprogramme the ECU with a new code only available from VAG. Has anyone replaced the pump and had to touch or not had to touch the ECU? I've had a search, but can't see anything that I can understand applies directly to this. I have a '94 VR6. Any help appreciated. MoT in a month, and I don't fancy the £1700 VAG want. Cheers.
  23. Are you standing closer to the Golf than the Passat?
