Maybe it was hot for such a quick sale? But seriously, I think anyone on this board would have (funds allowing) given more for that car. Weird. And to swap it for a Fiesta? Weirder.

What sort of mods required to get a VR6 upto 220/230 bhp
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to V3DUB's topic in Engine Bay
Not having been on an RR, I don't know, but I had expected that they normalise the power output reading against an inlet air temperature? Shouldn't be too difficult with a PRT next to the air filter, for example. -
Christ on a bike, there are a lot of absolutely bollox statements on there, many probably threaten the misrepresentation / false advertising laws. I quite enjoyed reading it! A pick of the best: "Cooled air burns more effectively, because there is more oxygen in the air!" (They obviously don't believe in thermodynamic cycles!) "No overpressure possible" (I wonder why that is, running off a 12V supply!) "Patented" (Because no-one else in their right mind would bother!) How can they have been going for 10 years? Another dubious claim - hilarious! "More power, less fumes" (So the electrical power comes for free then, does it?) I was intrigued to see what the feedback was like for this product, not being able to speak German, I used Altavista's Babelfish to translate a few. Most just say "thanks" etc, probably too embarrassed to admit, or unable to realise that they wasted their money on this item. The best one was a negative. Classic translation courtesy Babelfish: "Completely bad muck of the boosters." I can only imagine the real translation! Hilarious!

VW Corrado Limited edition 1989-1995 book
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to HiAsAKite's topic in General Car Chat
Yeah, I bought that a few months ago. Not a bad read. It is black and white only. It basically collects many magazine reviews together of the Corrado over the four or five years that magazines were interested. There's also a review at the end of it agianst the more modern coupes, the Fiat coupe and I think the Alfa GTV. Pretty good for ten quid - it would cost you a lot more to collect all the magazines that make up the book! Come to think of it, I haven't seen it around for a while - I'll have to dig it out again! -

Nice grey C tonight opposite that pub up the road from Habitat in Bristol. H reg, I think. -
I think that once mine is disconnected and reconnected, you need to pop a code into the little toggle switch thing to convince it you are the real owner.

A garage can easily do a pressure test on the cooling system. I had this done recently, and it was my thermostat housing that was leaking. Changed it for about £80+vat & labour, job was a gooden.
-
well me December 95(April build date) storm doesn't have............and IIRC no UK(supplied) Corrado does either Well, this is something of what I suspected - thus the comment about the garage, it's just what they told me, I hadn't changed either in a while, and it sorted the problem. But I suspect the garage is all a bit about bs, thus my questions on the reliable garage thread elsewhere! They recently told me to just take the heat shield off the cat as it has become undone from one end, as otherwise I would need to get a whole new cat. Hmmm. Any idea how I can check if I actually have them or not? I woudn't want to go throwing accusations if I do actually have them!
-
Yeah, check your disks and pads. There is some sort of warning system (open circuit) that relies on the thickness of the pads / disks (I'm not sure which). I had this recently, and it would happen on acceleration, or even coasting down a hill. I hope it is this, because the garage changed both disks and pads (it sorted the light out), so if someone knows better, I'll be looking for a new garage.

As far as I understand, if the ABS has any faults, it will fail safe, i.e. off, so that it doesn't try and use any dodgy components. Did the light stay on? You can get more detail from the VAG-COM if you're otherwise serious, and there's anyone nearby willing to lend it.

recommended vw mechanics Bath & Bristol area??
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to jboyslick's topic in Suppliers Forum
Mates of mine have had good service from Luccombe Garage with air cooled VWs. They sponsored a team in the Downs League as well, which I think is cool! I have been taking my car to PC Motors in Horfield, who are a VW specialist, although fairly small. The lad there has a nice Vento VR6. They were also recommended by a friend at work who also has a Corrado VR6. I would be interested in other experiences, though. A builder chap I was talking to said if he wants something proper doing, he takes his Sciroccos to Graham Batt, who are apparently not cheap, but very good: http://www.grahambatt.co.uk/ Has anyone else used Graham Batts? On the Feeder Road in St Phillips. -

Yeah, school holidays mean Southmead Rd is OK in the mornings at the mo, so I use quite a lot to work. I'll have to keep my eye out for your Golf, then... ...but that means being awake. Oh well! -
Saint Gobain are a French company, a high quality processor of glass and other such materials. We have used their plastic seals in the aero engine I'm working on, so my guess is they will make pretty good window tints!
-
LOL! Wow - don't you have an imagination!! I've always wondered how many Corrados are actually still about in the UK. I think it was 9500 imported originally, although I don't know the spread of models. Anyone know the original split, and any ideas on how to find out the number remaining?
-
I'm guessing that if a colour that matched the voter's car wasn't obviously listed, they plump for 'Other'. Actually, I have a sneaky suspicion that I did that, because Blackberry wan't there (Bramble is, and at the time Ididn't equate). Maybe renaming that category Dust Mauve would help? The other possibility is the the Dusty Mauves have been owned by ten different people at different times? The pole is for owners, not for cars!
-
Here here! It certainly gets some attention. I noticed in the poll blackberry is listed as bramble, which (I think) is what it is known as on the continent. Sorry to hear you had to wait a year for a blackberry - mine was the first I saw, although it did make me nervous that I didn't have a look at loads first! Touch wood, not too bad so far, though!
-
Sounds about right - waiting to pull out! Yeah, I live on Cotham Brow, park the blackberry wreck on Freemantle Road (the non-house bit)! And if I did see you, I might have waved, but don't expect me to remember, especially if it was in the morning!

Corrado spotting - August 2005
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to Dr Forinor's topic in General Car Chat
Huh, I was parked outside Boots at Cribbs today, but not me (L and Blackberry!). Does anyone know the C that parks on Cranbrook Road, Redland? Looks very body-modded and obviously well taken care of. Puts mine to shame, so I drive past a bit faster than I should! -
Well, not really a Chuftie, I suppose, but I was pulled the other day by the coppers (I narrowly avoided talking myself into a 'I still don't think I did anything wrong, officer') and while they gave me a seven day wonder, had to do the sitting-in-the-back-of-the-panda bit. The talky cop was asking details of the car, and he said 'what's the literage?'. I didn't understand, thought it might be Bristolian, so I said 'What?'. He said 'the engine size?'. I said (quietly) '2.9', and the driving copper said 'no wonder I couldn't keep up!'. I had to restrain myself, but satisfied my mischevious nature by just answering 'I couldn't possibly answer that.' I did get quite a few looks when towing my mate a couple of months ago. He has a 1956 Karmann Ghia, and the throttle cable snapped. I towed him about 17 miles back to Bristol, getting many turned heads. I reckon that's the only time a Karmann Ghia has been powered by a VR6!

Bloody hell, that's me! Lucky I was in polite mode - the mornings are usually pretty bad for me, so you're welcome! (And yes, it is Blackberry, not purple, or pink, or mauve, or any of the other abuse I get! I'll make sure to try and be polite again! Do you have any good tips on a garage for a VR6? The guy I go to is OK, but I'd be on the look out for a 'highly recommended' -

The Leningrad Cowboy replied to Storm Warning's topic in General Car Chat
I started trying to work out if could have been me (Blackberry VR6), but then realised I was off to Le Mans that morning (although in a Dodge-Viper painted Type 2 camper van). Did anyone else from the forum make it down there? The only Corrados I saw were all French, and they must have thought I was mad blasting an airhorn at a Corrado when all sorts of supercars were about! -

I currently live on Blackboy Hill, just behind Fishworks, although moving to Cotham Brow soon, got a blackberry VR6 (L plate), although it's generally so dirty that you probably couldn't tell! I have seen one almost identical to mine just by the Coach and Horses - M plate. Has anyone read 'The Curious Incident of the Dead Dog in the Night Time'? Well, on Friday, I knew it would be a good day because I saw two Corrados on the way to work through Cribbs and A38. first one was very brief, I think red, second one surprised me trying to get onto the A38 south from a petrol station. I would have let you out but I was taken by surprise! There's also another C, grey with clear lights, very nicely looked after, which is often in the car park at Rolls. Anyone here?

Blackberry - seems to be everywhere round here!
