Not in my C, but my Ibiza GTi. Narrow street, reverse parked and knocked over the moped that was parked perpendicular to the street. I am ashamed to admit I didn't know what to do, so just walked off. But the big C sometimes has some central locking issues - the pins sometimes get sucked down and need to be unscrewed from the inside - neither the remote locking nor key locking work. I think someone else said they had to climb in through the boot. I did that one night after the pub, but broke the parcel shelf. Gulp. However, I also had this problem at a car wash (I know, I know, I'm a lazy git). Trouble is, the machine was broken, so I had to go and get another code from the geezer in the shop to get it started after the initial jet wash. I entered the code, and then tried to get back in the car, but as detailed before, I couldn't. In the mean time, the sprayers all started, and in front of two or three others waiting by this time (and general petrol station traffic) I first panicked, trying to get in, but then had to give up and watch the car be washed from the outside. And then climb in through the boot to unlock it. Brilliant.

Good question. I haven't lowered my car, but have the heatshield removed. Well, strictly speaking, it came off!

Yeah, next thing I need doing I'll try Luccombe - heard some good things, mostly air cooled, though. Have you had any work done at the bodyshop, then? -

Spotted this Storm near the Redland Bakery (as you can see) in Brissle on Saturday lunchtime. -
TURBO CHARGED&SUPERCHARGED RADO!
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to g60greeny's topic in General Car Chat
Lithuanian - you wouldn't have guessed it. That chap looks like he wouldn't actually fit in the car - he must be seven foot tall! And I particularly like the 'Limited Edition' window tint! -
I have never seen crashes as bad as the freeway to work when I lived in Texas. I think a combination of excessive tailgating, drivers thinking they are invincible in SUVs and trucks, and the said trucks having no crumple zones or anything. The tiny, squashed wrecks used to really be quite scary. So I'm not sure causing any sort of accident like that is too clever.

I had mine replaced about 6 months ago. I'm impressed you could spot what sounds like a tiny leak - I couldn't see anything coming out of mine, and the header tank was losing half its volume every few days! The o-ring between the impeller shroud and the pump housing had completely perished, so no wonder it was leaking. Cost about £130 including labour, but that was at a specialist. Quite a good little pump. We did try and turn the old pump into part of our Le Mans constant flow water pistol, until I cracked the shroud completely!

What's the rarest car you've ever seen?
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to StormVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Evo reviewed Stig Blomquist's RS200 (October 2004). It is prepared specifically for the PikesPeak challenge. The four cylinder engine produces well over 900 bhp in a car weighing 1080kg. Apparently 60 to 80mph in 0.85 of a second, and 0-70mph in 212ft. Apparently it is geared to max out at 120mph (like most rally cars). Pretty damn quick. http://www.speedtv.com/commentary/17760/ -
Hello from the Dutch Motorway / Apres Karmann!!
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Dave, pleased you had a good trip, and I think Keith has some evidence of the Irish liking a shandy, but I haven't seen his pictures yet. I think he said he had one of me and Nuala asking the DJ to play Michael Hasselhoff. Does she remember that? The look of amused recognition on everyone's faces when it got played was a pleasure to behold! By the way, I have what I think is your frosted Karmann mug (with a little chip in it?). It was in the crate of beer that I brought back! I guess I'll hold onto it until you arrange your 'Corrado of Ireland' meet! -

Am I being naive / dumb here? What do the police have to gain out of this?

Bugger, I guess that must have been Saturday night, then? Missed out on that. I think Supercharged has already posted a piccy showing the lack of battery in the VR engine bay - obviously the production line was a bit short at some point! Sean - good to see you, man! Have you checked out the Mk1 Storm on ebay? Could do with a bit of work to get it up to your standard, but not bad. I love the fact that there's a brick as a chock on what looks like a very level piece of ground! Scirocco Storm on eBay -
Nice one Axl, well done, lower miler as well - that'll make a few green! As far as the fan heater goes, mine (and a lot of others, I'm sure) makes a grating sound which comes and goes depending on acceleration, breaking etc. I reckon this is just because the bearings wear over time (I guess their not lubricated), so replacing the fan is the answer - I'm trying to get round to it myself, but I've heard it's a bit of a bugger getting to it. I also need to fix the jammed heater controls, but hey. Has it got an MOT? Does that mean you can get driving it soon? That's when the real fun starts.

Looks like I sorted my lights out, then! (And bloody hell, I'm actually indicating). Tempest, thanks again for all your efforts - great weekend, and I know Keith enjoyed it as well, especially getting a glimpse of the production line. Hey, if I had known that our cars were going to be judged on Saturday night, I might have foregone a decent nights sleep. Still, I can be safe in the knowledge that I would have carried off the trophy for... most verbally abused car? Good on the guys for winning, though, especially Sean - his Scirocco was peachy! -
What mileage is your Corrado showing?
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to Bally's topic in General Car Chat
Hei, Rich - you got hold of one then - well done! Kick off a thread in Member's Gallery detailing your pride and joy - I'd certianly be interested! My C passed through 115k on the way to the Karmann factory, by the way. (Paulim as was!) -
A mate of mine has a low-light 1957 Karmann Ghia. Very nice. It's a bit sported up, with twin carbs and sports exhaust etc, and he insists he can get the back end out, but I'm fairly sure that's more of a statement on his driving ability! He does, however, park it in a garage - that blokes taking a bit of a risk with it in a (semi) public car park, fibreglass panels and all. There are pretty rare, considering there were nearly half a million made.

Saw a couple of interesting Cs over the weekend. Along with a spankingly clean VR6 - looked like it had just rolled off the production line! -

Glad to hear your safe and well after Saturday night! I think we made the right decision in leaving Saturday evening - had a great meal in Hoek van Holland and then a 2 minute trip to the ferry in the morning, so actually managed to catch some zeds, pretty important for me. The drive took about 3.5 hours in the end, including stopping to reattach parts that came loose due to high-speed wind effects! I'm just recovering on my lack of sleep now - thank God I booked another day off work! Anyhow, yeah, great trip, thanks to Tempest for his commitment and organisation, and great to meet you guys. :multi: -
How many Rados still in Germany?
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to Tempest's topic in General Car Chat
(a) about 9,500 C's imported into the UK - no doubt Tempest has the accurate number! (b) does anyone know anyone at the DVLA that might be able to supply similar information? I'd certainly be interested, and I guess the CCGB would, as they could track the numbers of cars left as time passes...... My money's on about one third being left - 3500, say :notworthy:. Waddya reckon -
Don't forget that in addition to a 'regular business' discount, the dealer chap won't pay VAT on the interior, which would take about £250 off a £1500 price anyway. :-P
