Try VW dealers, I bought one about 6mnths ago for £45.00ish.

Stevemac, is that with a standard exhaust? I've lowered the Corrado 30mm ish and I've never heard the standard exhaust hit. I've had exhausts hitting the rear beam on mk2 golfs I've lowered before. Wanted to get away from all that. Like the sound of these bobbins making it more secure, just not so sure about cutting the cars mounting points though. Plus I don't weld.

I thought the Miltek was supposed to be the dogs.. I bought a second hand scorpion SS system for my VR6 but have since been put off because the fitment to supposed to be shite. Anyone else tried fitting one? If its going to be the same with any exhaust I might just try the scorpion and bend it to suit with a blow torch. If VW can get the fitment right its a shame these apparently superior exhausts can't.

The bench test was about £40.00 including the return delivery. My bill including the bench test, exchange unit (looks brand new, fitted with the chip from the old ECU), delivery and VAT came to £340.00. Quick turn-around. I sent it special delivery and it arrived to them the next day. They tested it that day, found it was faulty and I recieved the new one the day after that.

Get a compression check done before it goes in for only head work, might get the same surprise as me and find its the bottom end aswell. Not trying to scare you, but its worth checking before it gets taken apart and your fully comitted. Ended up costing me thousands instead of hundreds. Infact could have bought another Corrado! This thread has a few piccies of what I found in mine... http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

Cheer people, ran it up last night and once it settled down it was sweet, well nice to hear it going again. Has taken about 2.5 months in total, the main problems were finding the bits and the every increasing costs. :( Could have bought a whole corrado for the amount I've had to spend, but it was a case of being too financially comitted to this car so had to continue. Tried to do as much myself (and a few mates working for beers) as possible. The main things we didn't do was fitting the new valve guides, rebore/hone and rebuilding the bottom end with all new bearings and seals. If anyone is considering doing this I would first speak to John (16VG60) from John Mitchell Racing on 07974 020031. After finding out the bottom end was in trouble I gave him a ring and it was sorted from there. I took it to John and he stripped and rebuilt it after getting 82.5mm (oversized) pistons and rings and a rebore to suit. Also painted the block which I thought was a nice touch, although being a VR6 it difficult to see anything past the top cover. Well good price for the work too, and this didn't include the numberous phone calls I made for advice.

Hopefully I should be able to get the VR6 running tonight after a rebore, oversized pistons/rings, new valve guides, bearings..... endless list. Does anyone know where I can find a running in procedure for this engine? Have been looking on the internet and there is alot of different advice. Most seem to say fast idle of around 2500rpm for the first 15min after cranking over without the spark plugs to get oil pressure. Some also say vary the revs between 2500-4000rpm for the first 15min. Next, some are saying load the engine up a hill to get the engine hot so the bores de-glaze and the rings suit the bores. I have also been told to just take it easy for the first 1500mls, long journeys so the engines at running temperature and alternate speed to run in. One agreement is that this is the most critical time for the engine so I got to be sure. Thanks.

I can't get the car anywhere to get the VAGCOM test so I sent the ECU away to ATP electronics ( http://www.atpelectronics.co.uk/ ) for a bench test. Apparently the ECU is faulty, and has been chipped which is a suprise to me. They are sending an exchange unit which should be here today so fingers crossed it will just plug in and work tonight, rather than plug in a blow the new ECU up.

Thanks for the reply. Just removed all those earth connections, filed the mating faces clean and retightened using copper grease. Re-checked the resistance to the -ve on the battery and its under an ohm. Using the bentley wiring diagrams I checked all pins for resistance to earth. All the pins which should be earthed are, and the battery and ignition supplies are fine. A few others also have low resistance but these are some of the sensors and the coil pack which I guess is right. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Does anyone know where the main earth is taken for the montronic ECU on a VR6? Having problems with the injectors, fuel pump and idle stabilisation valve, so thinking they all aren't being grounded properly through the ECU. I can also hear the ECU power supply relay 'flickering' on and off, again controlled by the ECU. Checked the relay operation across the battery and its fine. Tried to run the car once with some nasty misfiring. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

I thought the Samco hoses can be prone to popping off anyway because they aren't as grippy as standard hoses, and fitting can be difficult because they don't bend as easily. I phoned Stealth and they recommended I kept to original on my VR6. That and the wait of anything from 8-weeks to several months put me off. Just my pennies worth, think they look good but at the end of the day I didn't think it was worth it.

I'm not sure whether to go for the 82.5mm pistons (first overbore for the abv) or larger. Is there any real benefit in going for a larger bore and pistons with everything else stock? Can't afford anything other than that now, also don't want reliablilty and running problems.
-
I'm in the process of rebuilding the motor with the help of 16vg60. The link below was the start of the process, thought originally and quite obtimistically that it would only be the valve stem seals.. how wrong I was. :( Was going to get oversize pistons (82.5mm) and get the block rebored but have had no end of grief trying to get hold of any. Ended up getting oversize pistons from VW (the only ones they do are 81.925mm so don't think they are actually oversize) and getting the bores re-honed to suit. I would be interested what size the standard pistons actually are to check against the new ones..

Does anyone know where to get technical information (must be an internet site somewhere) sepcifically for the 2.9 ABV engine and not the 2.8 AAA engine. Seems the AAA is the more common engine, I have found a few useful pdf's about them (and Andi's spec on this forum) but not the ABV, and in particular the piston size, piston to bore clearance etc.. Thanks.

I've sent you a PM with some wiring diagrams.

I got the chip below second hand but yet to fit it.. http://www.bbrgti.com/StarChip.php Hadn't heard anything about the change in chip, the one I bought apparently came out of a '94 VR6 so should have hopefully be the same ECU number as both of ours. Rebuilding the engine at the moment, had 194bhp in the state it was in so hopefully I should see abit of an improvement after all this. Should get it dyno'd afterwards if money allows.
-
What choice of wire colours have you got?
-
You'll find that 90mm will soon become alot less if you lower your car, mines lowered 30mm (ish) and before long i think it will be closer to 50mm.
-
Right mate, I've attached a copy of my '93 VR6 ECU label. The VAG part number looks the same as yours. Why do you need to know then, are there different chips for different years of VR6? Was going to do mine soon aswell.
-
I've got my ECU out of the car at the moment so I'll try and try and post the number of mine tonight..
-
Good point paulg60, going to do that and maybe give it a coat of WD40 every now and again. Don't want to be taking it all off again anytime soon to re-spray.
-
Yes mate, any alternatives people know of. GSF (German, Swedish and French car parts) was brilliant for Golfs but I'm finding Corrado bits more difficult to source.. Why didn't I think of that before I got the car. Honestly, if I'd have known the hassle I was lining myself up for I would have kept my 8v mk2, rock solid compared to my VR6.
-
Does anyone know of a company such as GSF who cater more for the Corrados and in particular the VR6? GSF has been my usual stop but they don't seem to carry alot of VR6 bits. I'm after a downpipe and a new oil pump at the moment, can't keep on using the stealer cos as you know, most of their prices are just taking the piss.
-
Wicked mate, i'll give him a call tonight. Looks a good neat install!

Any ideas where to get a complete oil cooler kit from with everything I need to install it infront of the radiator? I take it thats the most popular place for VR6's? Any piccies would be great.
