  1. nah... exactly. I quite fancy her though despite her stupidity...
  2. Ahhh guttog, was pretty much on the way too. It's probably for the best....the old fella would've gone skitz if he found out I was buying more "sodding volkswagens", especially since I'm skintog at the mo. Yeah, I should really pay the mortgage first! Yeah, you'd have come past the door on your way down. Shame. Must organise another visit soon. Haha... You could have filled it up with Range Rover parts on the way home, and he'd have been pleased!
  3. Did you drive it on the road during that time? The correct answer BTW is "No officer"
  4. Just seen this case of another stupid driver who blames her sat nave for her car's demise... I mean who parks thier car on a railway line and gets out to open a gate??????
  5. Or not adjusted them up enough to start with/when they bedded in. It shouldn't matter what engine you've got, the rear wheel bearings take the same load/abuse. Either you got a dodgy set or they weren't fitted right.... It's well worth nipping them up every so often. the best check is to put the car in gear, handbrake off and get hold of and try to wobble the rear wheel. If there's any movement at all, they need adjusting up.
  6. Shame... You could've dropped her at my place if you wanted We'll have 120 x 90 square feet of empty sheds by sunday hopefully...
  7. I've seen pictures on here of how to get the rivets out. I think you attack the end of the rivet with a drill till the washer gets hot and the rbber melts, you can then remove the washer and remains of the rivet, and glue the washer back on ready to re-rivet. Mine had threaded rod poked into them and nuts to hold it all to the door. seemed pretty solid. The plastic ends break, or the cable snaps. All you can do is check the ends are in good condition, and clean/lube the cable.
  8. Yeah, that is the mech. It's worth popping the cover off the gearbox and chucking some grease in it. Check the cables and that the arms move ok, and it looks like it should be ok for a while... You'll need to get the rivets put of the three rubber wounts though.
  9. Time for the multimeter I think Martin... Can you bypass the loom and plug the original loom in to see if that was OK?
  10. I think there is a temperature sender somewhere that is playing up. Not sure where though on a VR.
  11. I think I've got one knocking about somewhere if you can't sort it by tuesday. I could meet you in Fareham at some point if you wanted. I couldn't guarantee how good it was though.
  12. 40 Amp 12v one will do nicely. The difference in the sndpo (???) and the other one is the number of connections on the bottom. Don't worry though. for headlamp looms, they are interchangable.
  13. Could be a worn bush on the rear axle? Saying that, my standard height boge shocks bang about and I'm sure that's due to my knackered bumpstops.
  14. Bloody hell! Sounds like you were both very lucky! Good luck with the insurance types.
  15. I reckon you'd be best of painting the back first, then the front. It won't matter if the paint runs on the back, it's hidden after all.

Sorry Walesy, I read that as a direct crack at my comment. It's difficult to catch the manner in which some comments were meant some times.

I wish I had a handbag waving emoticon right now...
  18. Actually, thinking about it... Sending wealthy people (who often seem to have little common sense) in expensive, fast cars, to countries that they don't know, often driving on an unfamiliar side of the road, whilst they party and get very little sleep... I'm surprised it's not happened before to be honest... "Races" such as the Scally Rally hold far more interest for me as I see them as an acheivable goal, and there are real obstacles to overcome, not things that are fixed with a simple flash of the cheque book. Hope the Old lady gets better!

It's a business policy. Therefore the no claims etc goes through the business, not the individuals. I mounted a transit van whilst driving a tractor for my old employer. His (rather minimal) no claims took the battering on that one. Not mine.
  20. Or a blower attachment for a compressor held in the hole. Just be gentle when doing it... Would be a good opportunity to clean the caliper up and respray it... If you find any rust on the piston, take it back with emery cloth until it's smooth, and it should be fine for a reasonable while.
  21. 12 DEG BEN is selling a golf chassis with a VR engine and gearbox for £4 or 500 if you want a project. Welcome back Andy!
  22. Yeah, they're pretty easy to replace. I'd definitely do it. Get someone to pump the brake peddle to push the piston out of the caliper.
  23. I'm afraid that you can't get the pins. I've tried recently. They only come with new caliper carriers, which are quite a lot of money... I also encountered a pin rusted into the carrier on a car and as you say it had to be some gimp reassembling it without any lube. It might be worth rying to get some second hand pins from someone who is breaking a car. but you don't know how well they will fit your carriers... Good luck!
