i'm going to have an experiment when i get home, thanks for peoples help/advice. How much does the engine/gearbox weigh? i did think of supporting the beam from the garage joists/trusses, but can't get to them with the garage door open. i think if i disconnect the engine/gearbox mounts and see what happens when i start winding the engine up with the beam, slowly of course

Have done one side, just undid the nut and hammered from below and it came out. Am on the drivers side now and can't shift it, hammered at it for ages, the end of the bolt has even gone flat now. Do i need to buy a tool?

damn, i'm worried about this :lol: I could temp put the wings back on, shouldn't be too hard. My problem is, i can't use a crane to hold engine and shut the gargage, the beam is going to need to be there while steering rack/subframe etc all get refurbed. i could support the engine underneath as well, but wonder if it will interfere with removing the subframe from below. I also thought about sticking some extra supports from the bar to the area where battery and airbox sit.

Who needs a strut brace anyway?

i bought my black badges on ebay, no idea how much they were, but a front and back VW came as a set, funny feeling they came from Greece

it feels quite solid, if i try and rock the red bar back & forth, the engine moves up and down. i was just worried the wing would bend as all the weight will be on that skin of metal

thought it should be ok, just didn't know if the outer wing helped with the strength, as bentley manual pic shows the wings still on car

Getting ready to drop my subframe and bought this engine support beam, just wanna check with people on here that it looks ok before i undo any bolts. My main concern is the weight of everything bearing on the inner wings, are they strong enough?

i'll stick a bid on it, i reckon you'll get more than £40

This is a great thread, just what i need, i have been writing down all the bits i need and was trying to gather part numbers rather than spend a few days in the dealers looking at the computer pictures :lol: My List, all for a 1995 VR6: -Gearbox Mount -Throttle Cable -Steering Rack -Steering Column -Front Brake Dust Covers + Bolts -ABS Sensors, Front & Back -Aux Belt, No Aircon -Bonnet Insulation -Bonnet Alarm Sensor (vag5000) -Mk4 Header Tank - £30? -Lower Ball joint Bolts + Nuts, 3x per side -Wishbone Bolts, 2x per side -ARB end bolts -Sump Bolts (i seem to have a mix of 10mm bolts and round allen key ones??) -Front Suspension Strut lower bolts, 2x per side -Subframe bolts(think there are 4, and also are longer ones availiable, the bentley manual mentions them) -Coolant hose clips I realise its a massive list and probably going to cost a small fortune, just not sure which bits are obselete, or ok to get from gsf/aftermarket. I have loads of receipts and part numbers which i can add to this thread

i do like my shiney slam panel, but i also like that, i need to get mine repainted, the top is great as i polish and wax it, but the underside has rusted.

Don't put me off doing it :lol: i was going to try it, as mine is on 194k and original chains/tensioners

^^^thats what i don't like about the VW scene, some kid in womans jeans will buy it on his credit card or student loan, then post pics on various forums of his £100 original rare first aid kit. Thinking it adds £100 to the value of his car :lol:

I hate the people who tell me spending say £1000 a year keeping the corrado how i want it is madness, then they say you'd be much better off buying a brand new car?? so £300 every month for 3-5years to own a middle range ford focus. Yeah right! Like my brother, bought a 6month old astra for £13500, never modded it as he too worried about resale value, now its worth less than my corrado. So thats £10k down the drain in deprication, and its needed new exhaust, brakes, and a few other bits. At least you know your £560 means some important bits of your car are brand new, i like the feeling that i've improved something and still not spent as much as the guy in a standard middle range focus, golf, astra, ibiza yawn, yawn, yawn any car will break/wear out and cost money, at least with a corrado your fixing something worth while imo

I got a magnex cat back system that was pretty much brand new for £140, was really happy with it, especially as i bought it blind with no photos

Who is actually going to look at your first aid in real life, know its a real corrado one and then be impressed by that :lol: i can't get that triangle out of my seats, its stuck fast. Broke down and couldn't use it :(

i also have that deox gel, i wouldn't use it on bodywork, i don't find it very good and you need to stop it drying out.

I bought all the POR15 stuff to do mine, marine clean, metal ready and then the anti rust paint. Only tried it on a little bit in my tailgate and the paint goes on really nicely and dries really smooth. But to colour over it you need to rub it down with fine sandpaper first. i plan to do this. The metal ready is a bit weird to get used to, as its watery and you don't let it dry. Am not a fan of hammerite and won't be using that on a car.. You could also use a rust treatment like the loctite one, i use that too and its much easier to apply/work with
