  1. While I was replacing the foliage seal, the trim above the heater motor you need to remove as part of this has been siliconed on..... and I mean, good and proper bodge job.... the part it's is missing some of the mounts that attach it to the clips under the window screen, so I need another one that is in tact, as I already have the new clips to secure the trim to the car.

I want to do the job properly :)

    Cheers

    Pete

  2. There are many differences i'm afraid, as far as I'm aware the diameter of the top and bottom hoses are different, and the angle the top hose comes off at.

I need a new radiator for mine, I think i'm gonna end up getting one from ECP.

  3. I was worried that water would perhaps get in there and start rusting up!

It does look a little unfinished too. do you know if that stuff is still available? I dont imagine it to be cheap, are there any other alternitives to that ? I did look at the link in the first reply, however I'm after something with a factory look and not bling :)

  4. While doing my foliage seal I came across all this brittle black stuff in the scuttle panel area? It literally broke up on touch so I removed it all with a view replacing it.

Obviously some questions have now arisen.

    1) what is it foe? I'd imagine it's some sort of rust prevention?

It wasn't doing much as water could easily get under it!

    2) how do I go about replacing this stuff?

    3) where can I get it from?

Here's a pic of the stuff I've removed!

As you can see its just broken up in bits and don't want things going rusty!

  5. Nice work Pete, I think you are at the same stage as me in terms of the OBD2 conversion, got all the parts, just need to fit by end of Oct. I was thinking of doing the same with my inlet manifold, how long did it take to get to the polished finish?

Hi mate. Took about 6 hours all In. Started with a flap sanding wheel (180 grit) and worked my way upto 5,000 grit wet and dry. Then got my mops on with blue, green polishing compound etc... I needed clean my mops and gonna do the last blast with autoglym metal polish when I was testing my process it actually left a better finish than with my blue polishing compound!

Cant wait to get the obd2 stuff on :)

  6. Here's how it currently looks:

This brings me on to today!

My foliage seal arrived, so replaced that, as the old one had seen better days!!

    11%2B-%2B1

Picked up 4 rolls of wiring loom tape from Audi too ready for the OBD2 upgrade :) (and some new bolts/inlet manifold gaskets etc. etc..)

    11%2B-%2B1

Cleaned up some of the engine bay a little, stripped some of the old loom tape off ready to re-wrap it!

So here is the engine bay as it stands:

    11%2B-%2B1

not bad when you look at the before photo when I bought it!

    6917_126888904131_512334131_2478106_5892825_n.jpg

I still have a long list of things to do on it!!

End of october will see the OBD2 upgrade and other bits and bobs, I've got a 3.68 final drive refurbed gearbox to go on at the same time...

but this is my list of everything that needs doing:

    OBD2 upgrade

    Fit lower inlet manifold

    Fit new rocker cover

    Aerial seal

    Fit new alternator pulley

Fit stainless steel fuel tank straps

    Fit heater de-mister Bowden cable

    Repair heater directional cable

Fit drivers side brake line spring between flex and brake line (bleed brakes)

    Fit new gearbox if arrived

    Fit front silencer

    Fit radiator support brackets

    Fit centre console custom mount

    Fit headlight loom upgrade

    Re-fit seat adjuster handle

    Engine bay degrease / de-gunk

As you can see, its just mostly small bits to do, and other jobs as a result of doing the bigger jobs already, i've already started tarting up some of the car... so fingers crossed I can meet my March 2012 dead line to get it finally on the road!

Hope you guys enjoy reading my latest update as I have working on it!

So, If you are free 29th / 30th october and fancy getting your hands dirty, let me know :D

    Cheers

    Pete

  7. Well , I've not updated this in a while, but rest assured I've been working away on lots of things :)

I have since sold the Brock B2's and have purchased these babies:

    301266_10150300392774132_512334131_8108130_1786258108_n.jpg

Another area of concern was the fuel tank straps rusting away to nothing, so I have had a set fabricated as these have been obsolete for a while now :)

    304042_10150300394169132_512334131_8108140_990272635_n.jpg

As you can see, the quality on these are awesome!

    303986_10150300394969132_512334131_8108142_2083699994_n.jpg

I'm currently awaiting the mount back from the fabricators in stainless as these are obsolete from VW, and guess what? mine has rusted away :) these are quite a common thing if you own a corrado!

I've started to get some bits vapour blasted, first item was the tensioner pulley as it was looking minging and showing it's age!

    304482_10150300395789132_512334131_8108144_248400119_n.jpg

Lower inlet manifold / rocker cover will also be vapour blasted, along with a few other brackets etc that have since become obsolete.

I've also managed to fix the sunroof tilt and slide by replacing the motor and stripping and rebuilding the switch, while I was at it, I replaced the bulbs and reflector's in the interior head lining light for good measure :)

I then set to fix the switch on the passenger mirror, ended up being an easy fix in the end, just popped to maplins, found the best fitting switch and soldered it in pace... job done!

    312917_10150300396689132_512334131_8108148_514656266_n.jpg

Those pesky head light switches on the corrado's are always breaking, mine already has a crack forming, luckily there was a group buy on here :) really happy with the quality!

    300896_10150300397684132_512334131_8108159_2113683924_n.jpg

I've found my polishing mops again :) hurrah I hear you all cry.

so, I thought i'd give the old alternator pulley a bit of a polish up.. didn't look too bad to be fair!

So, on to the OBD2 manifold (ready for the OBD2 upgrade!)

    316276_10150300392029132_512334131_8108123_289709650_n.jpg

This is still not quite finished yet, It has been vapour blasted too, as you can probably tell from the first photo! It's just covered in polishing compound and lime in the above photos, I still need to give the manifold bit's a final buff as my mops needed cleaning, hence why you can see faint scratch marks on the last photos!! :( a job for next weekend!

I gave the old girl a quick wash off the other day as she was looking dusty! a sure sign I need to get it finished quicker!!

  8. you saying that did ring some of those bells in the back of my head, i'm sure Vince did tweak my OBD2 to something like 6800? oh I cant remember... was a long time ago :o)

Something to consider for the future, but I think it will be fast enough by the time I drive mine, especially now being over 3 years since I last drove a VR6....

Waiting to do my G60 FD gearbox and OBD2 stuff to go on before years out! hopefully come March, I can play!!

    P.S - Sorry for hi-jacking your thread :)

  9.

Corrados don't start pulling out a lead on Golfs until 90+mph, mainly because of it's higher rev limit and slipperier body shell....

    Kev, Question :)

I'm about to upgrade to OBD2, are you saying when I stick the OBD2 ECU in, i'm going to loose that higher rev limit? Do you think Vince would be able to tweak my ECU so it has a similar rev limiter as it would have been with my OBD1 ECU?

    Cheers

    Pete

  10. I'm just about to do this upgrade and looking to re-wrap the new loom.

I did buy a roll of loom tape from eBay, but when I seeing how resistent it was to fire, I decided against using this as it went up in seconds!

    So... my question is:

    1) What is the best loom tape to go from - I have seen threads in the past (but cannot find them now) suggesting TPS do sell something that will do the job?

    2) How much will I need?

    3) Where to buy it from?

    Thanks in advance. Pete

  11. I've been able to replace the demister cable by just removing the trim on the drivers side, if you unhook one end of the cable, you will probably find that the the sliders work fully as a test :)
