Generally after using paint cleaner, scratchX and then polish I will do 2 coats of carnuba wax then a finishing coat of Gold Class... I'm going to do 2 coats of Gold next time though then a coat of carnuba on top to see if there is any difference... Although saying that, just using the carnuba on its own was good enough! The Gold Clas wax is a bit of a pain to get off though.. It leaves greasey smears that have to be proper buffed off! Don't know if it would be so noticeable on a silver car, but it takes a little longer than the carnuba wax to get off a dark car. I have been using the NXT spray on quick wax lately too and am really pleased with it. It doesnt bring the paint up quite like a full on Gold Class session but for a quicky before going to a meet or whatever it's spot on! Last week I spent an hour doing my rear bumper with 7 applications of meguiars products!!! Looked like glass afterwards!

The charger on my G40 scares me. It's constantly at the back of my mind when driving the Polo!! I've already had a set of seals go on me since I converted me polo to G40 5 months ago! When I bought the engine it had had a stage 4 charger conversion 4k previous. Yeah, a Jabba stage 4. Nuff said.

Angel eyes just make the car look a little boss-eyed... They wouldn't look too bad if it wasn't for that. I'd rather spend the money on replacement vw lights though.

Yeah, but at VW the parts guy could only find chrome Corrado VW roundels, no black ones were listed... Anyone got a part number for a black badge?? Cheers
-
Well lets hope the t/rads have different spokes!! I could do with just picking up the wheels and sticking them on the car without having to do anything...... but nothing is ever that easy.
-
That's what I was going to say..

Do they have the two locating pins on the back that pop into the body?? I was at VW today after a black rear badge but they only had self adhesive ones.. I want one that I can remove so I can get any polish off the body from round the badge... anal I know, but that's just me... Thanks Rob

do the arches need trimming at all?? My RH Turborads are apparently in the post to my local wheel shop this week.... Hopefully I'll have them by the weekend! Mine are single piece 5 spokes so will I need to trim the carriers back on my brakes?? edit: oh yeah, they will be wearing 205/40x17 tyres.. hoping that the won't foul the arches...

Unless you have a VR6 that came after the Storms! :-P

OT, but Riley, how does your wiper work if it parks on the body like that??

Yesterday I changed my broken gearbox mount for a solid rubber mk2 Golf Diesel mount, and then took the front end off to change my rad (engine rocked forward when the mount broke and smashed the radiator). Going to VW today to pick up coolant so I can fill the car up again and drive it!! Woot woot! Also getting my nice new leather gearknob from the stealers too! Think I might remove my rear wiper too today if the weather holds up! Oh, and hopefully my wheel shop will have taken collection of my 17's!!!... but propbably not... I don't think I've waited long enough for them yet.. 6 weeks and counting.

Euro Car Parts don't have any stock of headlight protectors.. I asked a couple of weeks back.

Was what I was told when I bought one - but I haven't fitted it yet Ordered one from VW today... £28+VAT  slightly better than the £42+VAT they wanted for a standard rado mount...
-
It doesn't look like it. From a quick look yesterday it would appear that the bracket that sits on the mount has to be removed then the mount can be changed. The bracket should fit straight back in again. As I say, I only breifly looked at it. I thought my front engine mount had broken but the engine didnt move when i tried lifting the inlet, but when iI leant on the inet the engine lifted about 2in at the rear!! Whoops!

I've tried a search but didnt get too far... Gixxeruk was saying about a diesel Golf mount as it's a little more hardcore than a standard one... Anyone got a part number for the mount or model of Golf it comes from (I'm presuming it'd be a mk2??) What are my other options? The plan is to put a nice cheap mount in for now untill I get all uprated mounts so I can replace the lot in one go with uprated poly/solid mounts. Thanks Rob

I can't find anything on the search about golf diesel mounts.. I found some stuff on other mounts and am pretty interested in uprating the lot. I like the look of BBM's solid front mount. Wouldnt mind some poly crossmember mounts and a Powerflex(?) gearbox mount.. Didnt really see anything about an upreated rear engine mount anywhere though??

it was the gearbox mount. Hopefully they aren't too expensive..

So friday night I pull up at some traffic lights and there is steam/smoke coming from the front of the car... not much but enough to make me notice. At first I thought it might be a little bit of oil burning off from the oil filter (I thought the filter housing was weeping slightly as I found a spot of oil on the cardboard I left under the car after the oil/sump/filter change...) But oh no... nothing as simple as that. No, I've pushed the rad up and broken the top row and it's leaking. £135 later from GSF and I'm the proud owner of a new rad. My little trip to Tesco is now totalling £300... Oh, and not only that, after I'd changed the sump at a mates yard I was racing him home in his 7.5 ton recovery truck!!! Anyway was sat next to him in third gear and he was flat out!! Dropped it to second and booted it and snapped the rear engine mount. I'm having some serious bad luck at the moment...

If you trim back the sleeving on the power cable and then twist the wire into two points, will it fit either side of the amp connection?? Either that or solder a connection onto the wire and put that on the amp (you may have to trim down the sides of the connector to fit though) Both methods I've tried and tested in my Golf and I had some dirty fat power cable in that!!

So, I went out for a drive last night with a mate of mine. We decided that we'd go chav hunting down southend in the Corrado. Was having a pretty good night down there... weather was nice, there were a few nice vw's about including a G60 rado that was tearing up and down, saw 5 police give some bloke a beating while he resisted arrest... plenty of skirt down there to look at too!! Coming home decided to stop at McDonalds on the A127. This is where everything started to go wrong. Cash point at McD's was out of order so we drove a little further down the estate to Tescos that had a huge "We're Open" sign all lit up outside. Tesco's petrol station was shut, so we follwed the road round to the main store. As we got a little closer noticed the main store was shut too so started to slowly do a u-turn.. i was driving at no more than 10mph when "bang bang clatter bang", my head bounced off the roof and I didnt quite know what was going on. Looked in the mirror and there it was. A 1m x 1m 6in high island with a teeny little shrub in the middle of it. I'd hit it straight on. My sump is now folded flat and the underneath of the car is missing a little underseal. Dented the petrol tank too. Not overly a happy bunny. Was planning on going to the South East meet today in it, and Bug Jam is at the end of the week. Originally I was planning on going to Bug Jam in the retro G40 but that aint gonna be fixed in time, and now the corrado is dead it looks like I'll be going in my works Renault Kangoo. I'll get some pics off my camera soon showing the damage I've done. I'll have to phone VW tomorrow to order a new sump. I'm going to go out and get the sump off now to see if I've toasted the oil pump too.... But. The story gets worse. I phoned the AA at 1.22am to come and get me and after numerous phone calls and text messages I finally got recovered at 7.30am this morning. To top it all off, as we were going along the M25 I spotted the 3rd Corrado on the raod since I've bought mine, and he overtook us with mine on the back of a flatbed... gutted. well and truely. I think there is a lesson to be learnt somewhere in here.... look the f@ck where you are going. I'm a cocknose.
