My local vw specialist refuses to replace my rear bushes with OEM. Its really bugging me. He has a fab workshop but it appears he cant be arsed to make a wind in tool ( out of a bolt and 2 bits of metal ) as has been explained on this very forum before. I really dont want the polys and it stopping me spending £400 with him. Nutts.

My fans run on as they are supposed to after a blast. I dont think the aux pump ever does without ign on. I do have a hot start problem. I have shredded my brain trying to figure all this out before, so presume its the fuel pump now ( which i dont intend to replace just to see if it helps )

I havnt felt the bottom hose during it warming up ( ooo-er ) but it does reach ~ 90 in traffic. Will do some hose temp research tomorrow.

Ok, i only just spotted this thread and as i see 70degs c water readings i will repost the info i stuffed in the other thread: It used to display temps as the cheesman described ( bang on the middle 100 , up to 110 during a rake ), before i put the nuspeed stat and the new yellow sensor in ( in fact i replaced all the sensors with VAG kit ). I also put a new rad sensor in. this was a nuspeed job. I cant remeber if it is a lower switching one ... I was worried about it overfueling too, but a warm hc emmissions readout says 5ppm (see this 'thread'). I also checked the mpg over 500 odd motorway miles this w/e and i got 240mls to 1/2 a tank. Would unburnt hydrocarbons make it out to the zorst if it was overfueling ? So it doesnt sound like its overfueling at all. Suppose the sender could be a dud. I think the fact that i changed so many things at once may make my problem a bit hard to identify. Easy answer would be to put a standard stat in.

My water temp guage never reached 70 this morning on a 40 min town / dual carridgway run ! Even though i replaced the temp sender. Hope this is ok .....

I think he made some looms for his (forum) mates and they got them at a show or something. I dont know if any other posters here got one. Who those friends were i am not sure. Perhaps the answer to that is somewhere in the previous 13 pages. I put my name down on post #3 of this very thread. 6 months later he asked if i wanted one and took my money. All he had to do was put it in the post. Why he has disappeared is a mystery. As you say, he sounded like he was well up for it - and came accross as a decent guy. He could have made more money than nicking my £49.50 if he had just made and sole the things like he said he would.

Andy didnt make any and stole my money - and i was one of the 1st on the list. I wouldnt bother waiting TrentSC !

I was a little concerned that as my Raddo now runs very cool ( Nuspeed stat ) it may be ovefuelling, so when i saw a free emmisions test @ Tesco today, i asked if they measured hydrocarbons. Yup, so i let them do the test ( car had been driven about 3 miles and then i sat with the engine running for another 5 to get the oil temp up to 80 ). Anyway, results were great Carbon Monoxide limit = 0.2 ...............me: 0.0 Hydrocarbons limit = 200 ppm .........me: 5 Lambda ( co2?) limit = .97>1.03 ........me: 1.01 So no overfuelling and engine internals must be in pretty good shape. A pleasant surprise for a change ! Gonna take the Tiv ( all cats removed ) for a test on sun. Should be interesting results....

I hate to do this. Id like to describe the following situation i am having with andy_vw and his uprated lighting looms. (See this thread) I was 1st contacted by Andy_vw on 02/07 saying i was top of the list and did i want a loom? I agreed to purchase one and after an initial problem with my paypal / bank setup, i sent the money on the 12/07. He replied on the 17/7 saying the funds had appeared and that he would send the loom out the next day. On the 25/7 i pmd him saying nothing had arrived. On the 30/7 he replied saying they were sent on the 19th but due to the floods around his area, he thought they may be delayed. However,his dad worked for the post office and he was going to do some investigation. On the 2/8 i got a pm from Andy stating that the sorting office in Swindon had been affected by the flooding and all items were being sent back to the sender to check for damage and possible compensation claims. Fair enough. Andy later informed me on the 7/8 that the loom had been sent back to him and he was going to test it. If all was ok, he would send it out again straight away. On the 24/8 he informed me that the loom was damaged and he had to replace 2 relays. He had fitted them and tested the loom and it was now ready to resend. ( I had been on holiday for 2 weeks and he said he was waiting till i got back before sending them out. ) He would post them out 'now, 1st class recorded' Again i waited and pmd when nothing arrived. On the 17/9 he replied saying sorry, the loom hadnt been sent and he would do it 'tomorrow morning'. On the 24/9 i sent a pm saying it hadnt arrived and i was running out of patience. I either wanted the loom, or, if for any reason this was not possible, the money payed back into my paypal account. Nothing. So on the 3/10 i sent another pm requesting a responce. I stated that if he didnt, id presume he had scammed me and would inform the rest of the forum users and the police if nessesary. Andy replied immediately saying the loom would be sent on the 4/10 and if i didnt recieve the loom by the 8th then i should should do what i needed to. As the postal strikes had just started i said i would give it another 2 weeks for the delivery before any further action. Well 2 weeks have passed, so here i am. Despite my best efforts at getting this resolved, Andy_vw has failed to produce anything more than empty promises. Perhaps poor timing and bad luck with flooding and strikes have played their part. Perhaps he got bored with the whole seeling stuff. Perhaps he is just a shyster. Either way i am without a loom and am £50 out of pocket. I'd like to hear if he has played the cnut with any other members, or indeed if anyone who knows him IRL has a better explanation as to what may be going on. Did anyone get one of the magical looms ??!

Haha - yes - class - but i think it was a bank or something. Didnt they refuse to loan him money on some silly technicality and he went bust coz of it ? I am sure it will be on youtube somewhere ! Edit: here he is ! Makes me proud to be a Northumbrian that does.

Hi and welcome. I dont think its that common for vr engines to get rebuilt due to massive failure. I guess that what happens is that enthusiasts ( with money burning holes in their pockets ) want either the chains / tensioners or the clutch done - even though they 'should' last for 120k . As the head and g-box have to come off for these jobs, its often a good time to recondition the head. There is your 'rebuild'. I havnt heard of many too needing a full bottom end rebuild. I'd suspect ragging from cold / poor servicing etc, rather than a flaw in the engine design itself. ( there is the hot 6th cyclinder issue which i think can be made worse by using poor coolant protection. Someone else here will be able to describe the problem better than me ) Go for the VR man. A LOT more exclusive than the goof. When you start getting nods of automotive respect by strangers, you will know you made the correct decision.

Thats shocking news. I had the Tiv up at Knockhill today and there was a small copter hanging around. If you stick Jerviswood into multimap, where he lives, you can see his private rally track ! Another sad loss to Uk and world motorsport. At least he was near his home and some pretty cool roads. Legend.
