Give Venom motorsport a call, I bought a replacement coilover there a few months ago, they don't sell them anymore but Richard had a few sets kept back for spares
-
You wind them down to lower it

Another thumbs up to Opie Oils here, it's no 'charged VR but my engine has run noticeably quieter since changing from Synta to Silkolene Pro-S 5w-40. Definitely worth a go for valver owners, plus the 5 litre containers are more than enough for a change.

I saw a red one driving towards me the other day, thought it was a modified TT from a distance, no doubt it's an excellent car but it just doesn't have the road presence of a £100K motor

Alonsos tactics - legal but not exactly sporting
steve_16v replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
I've lost a lot of respect for Alonso this season, first he was saying that the team was favouring Hamilton, then he holds him up in the pits so he misses a qualifying lap (despite whatever the official word is, that was deliberate by Alonso). Still, justice has been served, Alonso has been moved five places down the grid and Hamilton has been handed pole 8) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/6929333.stm -
No worries, good idea checking the part numbers though, it could be that those aren't a pic of the actual items or it might be the way he's modded them because although they look like very similar, that blade looks pretty small :? Hopefully it's a shorter blade he's found so we won't have to worry about modding anything to get them on in future :)

 Hnmmm, I used pliers to snip my inch off  Must be stronger than I look? :? Anyway, I since revised this TT setup and all you need to do (and this is simple, I promise!) is bend the passenger side arm (just before the wiper arm spindle) a little. What this does is tuck the passenger's excess blade length under the driver's blade and also aligns it in with the contour of the screen. So the parts remain the same, 2 x drivers arms and blades, and the only mod is a little bending, but you guys might need a 10 tonne hydraulic press....I used pliers  (not really, a vice with plastic jaw covers) What makes the TT setup better than the Lupo items (imo) is a beefier, sculpted arms (act as a spoiler), stronger springs and more crucially, ultra low profile blades with better rubber. I've had them on since this post was created, original blades and it hasn't juddered once. My Lupo ones used to judder after 2-3 weeks. Pliers  Have to admit I didn't think of just using pliers, tried tin snips to begin with but they were having none of it, then stuck them in a vice and brought out a hacksaw, that looked like it would have taken hours so thought feck it and grabbed the bolt cutters! Out of curiosity, how did you get the plastic end cap back on? The ends of the two lengths of steel either side of the rubber are tapered on mine so the only way of getting the cap back on securely was to grind them down into a similar shape. I did notice you mentioned the passenger arm could be bent instead of cutting the blade down, but those arms looked beefy and I didn't have a 10 tonne press handy  Plus, I didn't really want to ask the audi dealer for a third drivers side arm if it went wrong. For anyone else who gets them and finds they judder, mine did this for the first couple of weeks and were only briefly smooth when you used the window wash, don't worry though, that stops after a few weeks once the rubber gets worn in a bit. Therapor, think these are the ones VRTrickster was on about ... click me do

VR standard discs are 280mm, the maximum size of disc you can put behind an alloy depends on the design of the alloy itself, a few have loads of clearance like the compomotive MO, which as Kev mentioned earlier can fir 305mm brembos behind them. Most however won't clear anything bigger than 280mm. The best brakes (at least that I can think of) you'll get behind standard wheels are Tar-ox 6-pots

Awesome GTI sell Miltek 4 branch exhaust manifolds for valvers, their website doesn't specify whether it's for 2.0 or 1.8 though so you'd have to call them about it

Welcome to the forum pal :D When this has come up before the general consensus has been to stick with OEM, unless you know which GSF part is identical to the OEM part. When I had the rear beam bushes done my mechanic commented on the vast difference in quality and ease of fitment of the OEM bushes compared to the GSF equivalent he'd had to put on other customers cars.

I doubt you'll find anything that is as good as the AP racing kit for less money, they're as expensive as they are because it's a top of the line kit that's amongst the best you can get, anything with similar performace will cost similar money.

I cant get to the drivertuition page - is that the correct url? but is the warping caused by heat build up within the one piece caliper, crap pads and/or crap discs? I honestly think if the pads and discs were changed, the warping wouldn't be a problem. thoughts?[/quote:88312] I think the drivertuition site may be down at the moment, you can find it in google cache though. As for why they warp discs, they are a 20 odd year old design race bred caliper that whilst extremely effective, aren't ideally suited for road use, swapping discs after every use is fine for a racing team but not for normal drivers. It doesn't help that some people and manufacturers use cheap discs with them instead of proper Brembos as they're just not upto the job. They also have very big pistons that seem to be either 'on' or 'off', so you don't get the same feel as you get from more modern calipers. Using good quality discs and pads will certainly help improve matters, and if you look after them well you probably won't have any issues with them, but replacement discs for those brakes are expensive so what might appear as a good cheap upgrade could cost a lot of money in the long run. Personally, I'd get a more modern kit.

II'm sure there are plenty of people out there who haven't had any problems with the brembo 4-pots, it's a good kit but is well known for warping discs. Take a look here if you don't believe me http://www.drivertuition.com/LeonCupraBrakes.htm, it's also the same caliper that's used on the fiat coupe, take a look at what the buyers guide says about the brakes http://www.coupeweb.net/4882.html.

Buy the best ones you can afford, but personally I'd be avoiding Brembo 4-pots, they're notorious for warping discs.

Had an e30 3-series stuck to my rear bumper on the way home tonight, he dropped back through some bends but rapidly caught up again on the straights. Not sure exactly which one it was other that it sounded like a six cylinder, was lowered, had a bodykit and loudish exhaust (was RHD so not an M3).

Can anyone recommend a garage Stockport manchester area??
steve_16v replied to bigchagg's topic in Suppliers Forum
Awesome GTI are in Irlam, not too far from Stockport. They're pretty much the best in the area and only charge £45+vat an hour. -
That's what I was hoping when I fitted mine the other day ... still, I can confirm they are a massive improvement over standard wipers and don't look out of place either Only thing is, Kev makes it sound dead easy to chop an inch off one of the blades, it's not, it took a set of bolt cutters to get through the blade (spring steel is tough!), then a grinder to reshape the metal so you can get the plastic end cap back on properly.
-
 That's spectacularly bad!

Just picked up some TT wipers from Preston Audi ... £107.30! (the parts bloke sounded very confused when I ordered two drivers side wiper arms and blades). Going to have a go and fitting them this evening, it certainly looks like I'll be getting a lot of use out of them this "summer" :(

The engine will keep going if one of the battery terminals pops off, it just won't start again. At least that's what mine did when I didn't tighten the connector enough
-
I'll second that, mine had a full service and 4 wheel alignment done there two weeks ago, top blokes, the mechanic even asked me if the sunroof worked before he greased it (it does, although I never use it) as he knew some rados scratched the sunroof panel if they have dodgy mechs. How many miles has your engine done Badger? I asked about the engine flush but the chap at awesome said he wouldn't recommend it on engines with over 45K miles (at least I think it was 45K, might have been 75K) I'd also recommend Opie Oils for delivering some Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 very promptly, very impressed with it so far, previously the tappets were slightly noisy for a few minutes after a cold start, even after fresh Quantum Silver, not any more! Also Venom motorsport for opening a new box of coilies and selling me a single front to replace my leaking one.
-
Got mine from AwesomeGTI, it was about £180ish inc vat & delivery.
-
Yeah I didn't bother with a front as like double-6s says, the general consensus is that the balance is better with only a rear, sticking a front one on as well apparently makes the car understeer. With just the rear the balance feels perfect to me.

I've used the A671, A682 and A683 quite a few times over the past few months and can't say they've seemed any more dangerous than a lot of other roads in Lancashire. What the media hasn't mentioned is that those roads are very popular with bikers for their good scenery and sweeping bends, unfortunately a minority of them ride like loonies, make a mistake and end up as fatalities.
-
I've had a 25mm Neuspeed rear ARB on mine for about a year now, it's a great bit of kit, the car seems to feel more balanced going into corners at speed and I can't remember getting any understeer at all since putting it on.
