A silver 1983 Mini Mayfair, great little car!

Welcome to the forum, good to hear of another rado in the northwest to look out for :) That doesn't go away, I've had mine over two years now and it's a good job I can't see it from my office because I'd still spend all day looking at it

Lucky b*stard!!! The rate that speedo climbs up to and above 200mph is unreal 8) 8)

Welcome to the forum chap :) You'll find it's an invaluable source of information for all things Corrado 8)

Thing is, the vast majority of standard sized aftermarket brake discs come from one of two places, the OEM manufacturer or the pattern manufacturer, then get tarted up and rebranded accordindingly. If they're cheap they're rebranded pattern parts that are for want of a better word, tat, and best avoided (zimmerman, ebc, etc.). The more expensive ones (black diamond for example), are OEM discs that have been tarted up. The top of the line ones (tar-ox, brembo) are OEM discs that have been treated for extra strength, then tarted up. At the end of the day you get what you pay for, just avoid drilled standard discs like the plague.

Each to there own and all that, but I'll second the bin bag comment, they look awful. Plus they don't stop your wings, bumper, or the front of your arches getting chipped.

Fitted my new wheels and gave it a quick wash... Going to have to fit some bigger brakes now though, the standard valver brakes look tiny behind 17s :(

what you guys got planned for the weekend
steve_16v replied to lottysvdub's topic in General Car Chat
My plan involves picking up and fitting new wheels tomorrow, BBQ later on if the weather holds out, watch the grand prix on sunday then see what happens -
Great price :) Where did you find that then? I've just bought a set of RCs and wouldn't mind having a spare.

Tried VAGCOM?

1100 miles ... in 12 hours ... with a dodgy wheel bearing ... that's good going! :)

If you're sticking with 15's gwerks sell a twin piston caliper upgrade for £480, also Tar-ox (280mm) 6-pots will fit under 15s, they're about £750 delivered for the kit.

My plan is to get a set of lightweight wheels (probably BBS RC's) asap, get a new bonnet, big brake upgrade, drop in a 1.8T or FSI, big ICE upgrade, full respray, leather. Going to be getting a second car at some point soon though as it's currently averaging 400 miles a week with work, getting sick of crawling over speedbumps and finding new stonechips/scratches seemingly every day :(

Saw you late Weds afternoon driving around Burnley, I was in a queue of traffic on accrington road when you went past making good progress :) You'd have remembered mine if you saw it ... the paintwork on the bonnet is minging :(
-
Yeah I saw Riley's the other day looking sweet, although he's got it up for sale so unless he sells it locally mine will be the only black one (that I know about) in the area.

Jesus, that is a lucky escape! Main thing is no-one was hurt, as you say, metal can be replaced.

Had a blowout on the M6 yesterday ... quite a brown trouser moment! Trying to get from the outside lane to the hard shoulder on a busy motorway with very little control of your car isn't a pleasant experience (luckily it was the drivers side front, could have been much worse if it was one of the rears) ... it's amazing what bar stewards some people are like for letting you in even when your hazards are on! :censored: Coincidentally there was a lady broken down just in front of where I pulled up whose car had been smoking and thought something had come off her engine, not sure what it was though as my eyes were on the sat nav when I ran over something and heard an almighty bang. Must have been quite large though as there is a slice in the sidewall of my tyre about an inch long and a large dent in the wheel rim. Anyway, today I borrowed one of my mates bbs ra's that was sat in his garage (anything is better than the space saver!) and have stuck that on till I can find some nice lightweight 17's with decent caliper clearance.

Sounds like you've been as unlucky as me today - had a blowout in the outside lane of the M6 northbound near lancaster, bit hairy but got it to the hard shoulder and called the RAC, now need to decide whether to get all new wheels & tyres or just replace the fecked one...

I do a lot of driving round lancashire for work and seem to get chufties on a daily basis, last week when leaving a site a bloke and a lady were both outside admiring the rado and wanted to have a good chat about it. On monday night I took a couple of friends to the Burnley match and my mates mate who hadn't seen the car was really pleased we were going in the rado, said it was the cleanest car he'd ever been in and even knew about the spoiler. Then today, when leaving a site in Leyland a bloke in front of me walked past the car having a good look, noticed me open it then turned back for a chat and said I should never sell it as it's going to be a future classic. (Incidentally, if anyone was at the Burnley v West Brom match, we were the ones on the pitch at halftime attempting the shooting challenge, I was the one who skyed a shot ... much to the amusement of the 12,000 or so in the crowd  ).

Should be rock solid on 3 clicks and you might manage 4 clicks if it set up properly. Anymore than that it will be a siezed mech or poorly adjusted cables (although in my experience most cables are never adjusted unless they are changed) Hopefully it's just the cables that need adjusting on mine, it works fine except on steep inclines where it creaks pretty loudly when you get out and it doesn't feel particularly secure (no doubt it would wander off if it wasn't left in gear). The rear brakes themselves work well so I'm thinking new cables if adjusting them doesn't work, or should I get new rear calipers aswell?
-
What a bunch of cnuts, you'd think there'd be some sort of security at a place like donny which going by the thread seems to be a target for thieving scum.
-
Or about what they normally do as most C handbrake mechs are seized on anyway ;) Which reminds me, my handbrake needs checking ... don’t want it roll off down a hill like Chris Hill’s did!
-
Indeed you will, otherwise the rears will be doing next to nothing.
-
Yep, when you lower it the bias valve sends more pressure to the rear brakes, that's why your rear end is sliding out under heavy braking. I believe it's best to take it to the dealers as they have the correct equipment to adjust it properly.
-
Yep, him and Penny Mallory ... incidentally, it's on ITV4 right now.
