  1. Oooh the picture with the tap is what I mean Tim on mine, looks like the hub bit the wheel bolts to is also splined and needs pushing out too. Think i'll take it to the garage to do as i'm gonna struggle with that.
  2. Yeah i bent mine to submission too but got 2 new drive shafts and 2 spare hub carriers to replace them so not too fussed but i'd have rather them be usable but alas it was not to be :)
  3. Yeah got the whole hub casing off (the bit the wishbone, track rod & suspension leg bolts to) but trying to remove the bit the wheel bolts to away from the said casing. Might be as you say 3corsa. and fall out once the bearing is pushed out.
  4. Right then, got the shafts out myself with much persistance and a little heat in the end, broke my hammer in the process to had to go fetch a new one but upgraded to a 2.5 lb mofo. I also bent the hub casing badly by whacking it too much but i have 2 new ones that i bought a few years ago that had been coated so no probs there, so anyone tackling it be careful you dont do the same. Now the shafts are away how does the bloody hub section come off? I removed the 3 screws but still no luck? Will need new rotors anyway but was hoping to get the hubs out ok. Ta! ;)
  5. Nice one :) funny how i said to you that it looks similar to the corrado too, I loved the one i drove on the six gear experience. Many congratulations mate.
  6. Yeah Stuey I ordered a load of stuff from him too but said no great rush as i know he's waiting for a big enough box at work. He'll get round to it i'm sure, Neil is a trustworthy chap if ever i met one, as said he's busy with a house too at the moment.
  7. I did and I do :-) like learning stuff and wasn't half as bad as I expected. Hope the rest comes off ok too though.
  8. Will have a go at knocking theseeking Skoda man lol. I'd like tim do it myself too. m off before
  9. Well the shafts were too stubborn to get out so removed the whole hub housing too and i'll drop them into my local Geezer at skoda garage next to work to remove them :) Enjoyed doing it though. next phase will be subframe so better get the engine support sorted first. Thanks for the tips fellas, very kind as ever. Think i'd better start using my members gallery for future questions :)
  10. Right all things removed from hub and hub & carrier now flapping around, cant get the bloody drive shaft out of the hub though. used a gear puller and feel it'll break if i carry on winding it. any ideas? never removed it so pretty stubborn :(
  11. Guess that lifts all the weight off the axle stands too if the engine is free off the mounting points. Hmmmmm. Wrestling to get the shafts off in the mean time though :/
  12. might be four stands then :/ I hate jacking it up so high! :( ---------- Post added at 2:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 2:42 PM ---------- Yeah when i actually drop the subframe i'll be using one that stretches across the wings.
  13. might be four stands then :/ I hate jacking it up so high! :(
  14. Fuzz, you mean the box section just behind the bolt on the subframe to body?
  15. Hi all, Right about to attack the whole drivetrain and will be removing the subframe and all that bolts to it. Question is i usually place an axle stand where the subframe bolts to the car but as i need to remove the subframe where do you support the weight og the whole front end? i was thinking the boxed/square section just behind the rear most subframe bolts! Anyone done it before? tried to search but there seems to be more threads on jacking points rather than support points. Thanks in advance. Kip.
  16. indeed you shall. :) a few extra pence but worth it in the long run if you are keeping it.
  17. Time to replace i think. had the same with the same system 5 years ago so replaced with the latest version and has been spot on since, i think connection s etc seem to have a limited lifespan with alarms to be honest and over 10 years is not bad going really. The later alarm even cost £50 less than the concept 50 i had fitted in 1999 too :)
  18. Only shell V power for mine, Jet petrol is one of the worst out there for carbon build up. And it does make a difference to both response & engine feel.
  19. I'm more concerned you're putting that ****e petrol in

    VR6 hub nut size?

Cheers Tom, just looked at the new bearing kit from VW and it has a standard 6 sided nut in the box with it. Do people fit these instead now???? or try and order another splined/multihex one. Dont want to re-use the old one really.
