eek ive been running it like this for about a week and a half whilst asking friends etc. Is this a big problem? new cambelt and tensioner or more? Can i risk the 20mile drive home from work tonight?

My corrado (1.8 16v) has a wierd noise coming from somewhere within the engine bay. Its quite hard to explain the sound it makes, but its not a continous scraping its more of a pattern/tune. It scrapes for about 4seconds and stops for 1second and i *think* it only occurs at lowish speeds ( Now, there is a rattle coming from the cam's left side (perhaps under cambelt cover) on idle but i dont think its the same noise. This rattle doesn't happen on idle, or stationary with engine revving it also doesn't occur when the vehicle is in motion but the clutch is down and engine idling (When i lift clutch it starts up again). I have searched but only come up with heatsheilds vibrating, but surely this would do it with a stationary car and engine revved or car moving and engine idle? Should i just take the vehicle to a garage and take a mechanic for a spin to see if he can explain it?

i have a renault 19 deisel which you can have for £500! Reliable as you like.

i would have thought so, but taking out the seats takes about 5minutes each. But i expect taking the covers off takes a while :/

make sure the air intake below the windscreen on the passengers side isn't full of leaves etc, thats what was weakening my blowers

i bought my colorado with the intention of selling my old reliable renault 19, but im going to bother now. Its so reliable and its not costing me anything other than diesel till the mot in april. Plus it means i wont put millions of miles on my rado just going to work and back.

that valve turned out to be about £25 so i just drilled the mechanism out of mine, which will do me. No more cold mornings :)

whats the best for a 1.8valver?
-
its a 1991 1.8 valver. i believe your right that it was added as a recall and it acts like a no-return valve. but i wanted to see if GSF do them but i dont know waht to ask them for lol.

sorry to go abit off topic, but could somebody tell me what the below valve is called as mine is broken beyond repair but i dont know the name of it. Its part of the piping come from the matrix -> engine. it also has a small pipe coming from it which i assume is overflow but on my engine the pipe has been sealed at the end and isn't connected to anything, where should this go? back into the resourvior? here is the picture (call me van gogh): oh and the text says "pipe" although its not v clear lol
-
First thing id advise checking regarding the blowers is the piping in the engine bay. The pipes leading from the engine into the back of the dash within the engine compartment should have a metal valve in the middle which connects two pipes to each side with circlips (i think it also has a third pipe which might be overflow or something?), but from my experience this gets blocked and therefore doesn't heat the matrix. Check if the pipe on the engine side of the valve is hot and the pipe on the dash side is cold. If so; try a new valve! Sorry for the long explanation that probably doesn't make any sense, but im crap at explaining things lol.

After reading what happened to darren (g-werks kid) regarding his cambelt, i have decided for piece of mind i will change the belt on my valver. And due to me being a tight bastard im going to give it a bash myself. So i have a few quetions (which have enevitable been asked before, i know). 1. As there is no haynes corrado manual, is the process the same for a golf/passat which does have a manual? If not, does anyone have an online manual i can see (email me the page or summat ). 2. Where is the cheapest place to get a belt? they are £11 on this site: http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado_belts.php But when i swap the belt would you advise i also do the tensioner? 3. What tool do i need to tension the belt? And where can i get one? Any other additional warnings etc you want to give me then feel free :) Rich

My valver is still parked up in my grandads driveway as i haven't taxed her up yet and somebody knocked on the door and asked my gran if it was their's and would they consider selling it. I said 'no ta, but you can have the old car' (which is a 1.9D Renault 19)

what do they cost?
