    Thanks for the feedback, i was already pretty dubious about the headgaskets after seeing like 4-5 cars on ebay saying "brand new head gasket" and they had all done like 30-70k, very worrying. The MX5 certainly looks a much more robust car and probably cheaper to maintain, but she goes by looks (despite me being no looker).

    My girlfriend wants a new car but we are finding it hard to find something she actually likes. (less than £4000) She's not interested in the usual girly crap like Saxo's and 106's and wants something abit more fun. The only car we have found that she actually likes in her price range is an MGF (but she hates MX-5's). Anyone got any suggestions? Do your gf's drive anything interesting?

    I had my drivers side window smashed like this at 60mph luckily im quite a steady and calm person and it didn't make me swerve or anything but i was literally covered in glass when i pulled over. Would hate to think what would have happened to my face if the window was open though :/

    what hoses have you got flusted?

    If it is your problem then yes its an easy part to change, its just an idler pulley (think they call it a 'v pulley') which has bearing in it to dampen vibrations, my bearings have totally gone and it just wobbles from side to side and spins extremely freely. The pulley is just behind a smaller pulley and is held on by 3 allen key bolts.

    I have a problem which sounds a little like this; my problem is the idler pulley on the waterpump where the alternator belt goes around. The bearings are shot and it rattles from side to side quite drastically and make a noise. I have a new one (£50) but ive not fitted it yet!

    Interesting, for some reason i was under the impression that using 95ron unleaded was bad for my engine?

    ive only found two little rust spots on mine, one is coming from under the seal on the drivers side rear window and the others were very small and under the black trim which i removed. Same cant be said for my renault 19 which is 3years younger :(
