  1. My mates VR6 has just sprung a leak. The hose coming out of the back of the engine and then seems to go into the dashboard area has split. Its was dark last night so couldn't see much. Steam everywhere and waters peeing out of this pipe. It enters the engine block near the top of the back of the engine. Assuming you know which one I mean, any ideas on cost for repair? Is it something that can be done on site as he obviously cant move it.
  2. He said £200 to £300 for the labour inc the service, that was airing on the more expensive side. He didn't know which bolts my snap for example when removing/replacing various parts. I bought all the parts myself. Incuding all service stuff (oil, plugs filters etc from VW) and all these jobs it came to about £190.Going in Thurs morn for all the work! The service was only £45 (£30 an hour). This isn't VW by the way, but he rebuilds Imprezas in his spare time and is very good with performance cars.
  3. Could have been a lot worse. That means that apart from a little bit of rust at the back (which is next job) I'll have a mechanically mint VR6 with black leather heated interior for a combined total of £3700. Thats including the 4 new tyres and Cat 1 alarm I've just fitted!
  4. Well, went in for its first service and check up (owned it a week). This is what needs doing. HT Leads Replacing Shock Top Mounts (both front) Fanbelt Exhaust to manifold gasket (hopefully its not the manifold thats blowing) Both Rear Wheel Bearings Front drivers brake pipe Front to rear brake pipe "Other than that" he said, "its in good shape". £100 from GSF (inc discount) for the parts. Around £200 for labour, this is including the full service (gearbox oil, coolant, usual service stuff)

    Decat legality

Hmm? As I'll be needing a new exhaust soon anyway it was one thing I was thinking of. I was told the VR engine was designed without a cat in mind?
  6. £60 for the tyre! Would you run without one? Or is that just tempting fate?
  7. Only had the car a week, must have been the previous owner. Never thought about a scrappy. I'm sure they'll have a spare tyre somewhere. 247 car spares, here I come!
  8. Am I right in thinking that you don't legally have to have a spare but if you do it needs to be legal? The space saver in my boot is illegal and its £60  for a new one fitted. Don't know whether to not put one in, get it replaced, or leave it as it is? Any thoughts.
  9. As I'm eventually (slowly) getting my C back to minty as possible, I'm toying with the idea of getting a really cheap runabout. Talking £400 banger with 12 months MOT. Trouble is, when you factor in insurance and tax I'm not sure if it'll be cheaper. I reckon I'd save about £10 a week in petrol (do about 150 miles on average a week). I just don't want the C (after a complete respray etc) to get damaged or the miles piled on. I know it'll be fine as a daily runner, just not sure what to do. I'm not rolling in it by the way! Cheaper idea would be.......??
  10. I did, just wondered on difference between genuine and replicas. No one seems to have one.

    Decat legality

Is there any power benefit. Mines a March 93 K.
  12. Best place to get em from? Is there any difference? Quality issue?
  13. Going to replace the exhaust soon with a stainless and a few people have said that I should decat it as the VR6 was designed for a car without one. What sort of legal problems could appear (other than MOT), ie, if stopped by police or anything. Anything I should be aware of or get done when buying a new one?
  14. Thinking about getting a Reiger Grill put on. Now I've seen the replicas on ebay but is there any difference between the two? Is it better to stick the the real deal?

    Arrrrgh!

Cheers guys! Found half a compost heap in the passenger drain! Just getting to know the car. Giving it its first bloody good clean in about a year. (Its previous owner unfortunately died and its was left for about 9 months) Best way of geting to know a car is by cleaning it IMO!

    Arrrrgh!

Giving the car its 1st vacuum in a long while (just bought it) and the passenger footwell was very wet. No where else was and I can't find any clues. Wet patch was just on the flat bit and stopped just where the ridge under the seat is. Where on the C are the usual let in points? Prob no. 3, day 6!

    Problem No.2

Well, I'm on problem number 2 in C ownership. (Day 5) I've searched and found a few ideas but would like re-assurance with what I've already done. 2 days ago my ABS light came on when doing a short trip (from the start). Couple of hours later, on the return journey, it was fine. Yesterday it was fine. Today when I set off it came on again. When I saw it (about 100yards down the road) I pulled in, switched the engine off and started it again. This time testing the ABS by using the foot on brake pulse method decribed in the buying guide. I got a pulse and the light went off as normal. Great I thought, until 5 seconds later when it came on again and stayed on. Dirty sensor or something more expensive? It is going in for a big service on Monday so if theres anything quick and cheap I can ask my mechanic to do then what is it? Cheers!

Would these suit a mystic blue VR6? Remember seeing them on a few cars but I'm not sure, don't want a chavved up C (if thats what people think of them). In the next few months my C will be getting a total respray, same colour, and I'm thinking of adding these. Any thoughts?

    First C Problem

Tried locking and unlocking it a few times but no joy. Can get it open with key, but it is stiff. And If I do open it the c locking does then lock it properly.

    First C Problem

Well, I've owned the C for 4 days now, heres my first problem. Just had a Cat1 Alarm/Immob fitted (Meta M999T) and it works great. The only problem I have now is that the boot doesn't unlock properly when I unlock the car. The doors are fine but the boot just make a noise and I can't open it. I have to use the key and turn it open, which is pretty stiff now and open it like that. Is it similar to the door handle probs I've heard about? Can they rebuild the boot lock easily? Any ideas on price?
  22. From what I've being told the wiring can go through the nuber plate light hole and then you just have to position the speaker, an earthing wire and attatch it to the reversing circuit (or whatever its called). I'm getting a cat 1 fitted on fri, I'll try to get tehm to get one out so I can see what it looks like.
  23. "I've taken this from a Lotus site, its good". Hit and run - justice On sunday morning I was sat in Starbucks (Central London) having a pre-shopping coffee while my Mrs scouted ahead. There was a VX220 parked directly outside which a lovely gentleman (about 60, very well dressed) in a Snoozuki something-or-other decided to back into. A few gasps from inside the shop later and it was clear he wasn't bothered and wasn't about to stop - so much was he paying attention that he backed into it again! I know how much these things cost to put right so I thought I'd go and have a polite word. Me 'Excuse me - do you think you should leave your details or go and see if you've damaged that car?' Him 'What car?' Me 'The one you just hit... that one!' Him 'I didn't hit it - f*ck off!' Me 'you know you did. I know you did and frankly half of Starbucks saw you do it' Him 'So what. What are you going to do about it?' Me 'Take your reg number and give it to the owner' Him ' off - its none of your business. Now get f*cked!' So I thought fine, went inside and picked my coffee back up. He then drove off in a huff. Then, as if by magic, two policemen appear and walk past. Being a bit of a trouble maker I went out and had a chat with them - not really expecting them to care too much. I told them that I'd just seen someone back into the VX220 but he's gone now, but being London, he'd be in the traffic 20 yards down the road. One of the policemen started chatting about VX's and Elises and how he always fancied one and would have a chat with the other driver if they could find him. Great - he was now parked up a few spaces down! So off they go to have a word with him and encourage him to leave his details. I hadn't noticed but he had nipped off to the shops. A few minutes later I got a tap on the shoulder and it was the old bloke who thought it would be helpful to inform me that 'he had met some w**nkers in his time but I was the biggest one yet!'. Now, I'm 28, hit the gym a fair bit and aren't exactly skinny so, especially infront of a busy coffee shop full off people, I wasn't about to take this of an old toff. So I followed him out of the shop and asked him to stop and explain how I was a w**ker yet he who knowingly damaged another car but didn't see fit to put his mistake right wasn't. He shrunk slightly and sped up to get back to his car. In his haste he barged the two policemen out of the way who were (amazingly!) waiting to have a chat with him. The look on his face was priceless. They clearly weren't up for being messed around with and tore his bulls**t story apart within about 5 seconds and invited him back to the VX220 to have a look at the damage. At this point the VX driver turned up and my work was done. It amazes me that someone who was clearly monied (if tweed per m² of clothing is anything to go by) has absolutely zero sense of social responsibility - and will even go on the attack when caught out! I was seething with anger for a good few hours after that - and was very glad it wasn't my 340R he'd backed into because, with his attitude, I'd still be in the cells this morning! Told the story to my Mrs who simply excalimed - 'I let you out on your own and look what happens!'
