Its saved me at least 3-6 points. Great for those hidden camera's behind the trees! Trouble with camera vans is that by the time its bleeped and you've reacted, its too late anyway. I was coming over a hill and was giving it some (on a track of course officer), when the angel warned me of a camera, so I slowed down, came over the hill and saw a yellow box just after the brow. No way I'd have slowed down enough if it hadn't have beeped. Trouble is, now I only go where I know really well, so I know all the sites. Thats why I'm getting rid. Need the extra money for a VR6!

Is there any way to check the engine (to see if it will need a rebuild) before buying? Would an AA/RAC inspection do that?

Whats the power of a G60? Never looked into it. The VR6 is around 190bhp? My GTI6 has 167bhp, 0-60 in 7.1 secs. Thats Pugs figures not mine. Theres only around 3500 GTI-6's left in the UK, so that makes it rare. The trouble is, theres millions of normal 306's around so not many people actually know what a 6 is. I want something with that rarity and power. The Corrado fits the bill! Can't think of another car that does TBH. Maybe I'm dreaming too much. My budget is £3500 initially. I could throw £200 a month at it with not too much trouble, so running costs I could prob cope with. Sensibility then appears (and women!). I'm getting married in 2007, as well as carrying on finishing off our house (which seems to never end). So I don't want it to be a money eater (a big one!). I think I should just get one before the need for a Zafira comes along! Like my dads says (since he had a heart attack) 'if your going to do something, do it now, before you regret it!'.

Yeah, even I know that they're chains! What about the G60? Is that cheaper to run? Trouble is, I'm wanting a car thats quicker than my 306, according to standard specs, only the VR6 fits the bill.

How much would it cost to find this out? I assume a garage would be able to tell if its the engine?

Planning on buying a VR6. Suppose ques is a little vague. An example for what I mean is like on the forum I use at the mo ( http://www.306gti6.com ). We always recommened that if theres no proof of it, to get the cambelt replaced asap, as they're known to snap before there time. It's just when I see 'last service done at cost of £700' that worries me!
-
Before I delve into the deeps of Corrado ownership, can someone tell me roughly how much standard yearly stuff is needed for the C. For example, how much is a minor/major service? Anything you recommend getting done if theres no proof of it being done already. Basically, I'm trying to figure out how much for a year I'd need for maintenance. Obviously anything can happen but at least I'll have an idea.

I'll sell you my road angel 2 (with laser detector) if you want for £190ono! I'm not doing half the miles I use to so its not getting any use. Subscription has just run out so you'll need that as well, can change owner of unit easily with the makers subscription service too.

Ok, being pondering the pro's and cons of getting a better VR6 or one that needs work but buying it for less. Those who read the thread will know what I'm prattling on about. Another option which has just occoured to me was to buy a cheap 2.0 or 1.8 Corrado and wack a new engine in it. Can pick em up for a grand or so. I asume a 2.8 VR engine or an R32 will go in these as well as the VR6, but do you need to replace the gearbox as well? Any ideas on full cost of a transplant for an R32 and VR6 2.8? I'm basically wanting to buy a cheap 1.8/2.0 and then go to a specialist and say 'put this engine in here please!'. What do I have to be aware of with such a radical change to the car? I know a lot on here have used 1.8/2.0 donors. Any difference between the 1.8 & 2.0 donor car I should be aware of? Cheers guys!

Would an AA/RAC inspection pick any of that up?
-
Seems far too cheap. 19k for a VR6!
-
I've tried searching but couldn't find the answer. What was the original price of the Corrado's? Specifically the VR6 but others as well.

Which would make more sense? Great mechanicals, not so good body. Or Great body, not so good mechanicals. Sorry about the tons of ques! Always try to make sure I do my homework before getting a car, especially one like this. Is is worth paying for an AA/RAC inspection?
-
Is it financially more viable to rebuild an engine, seen as you know whats being done, as opposed to buying a new one that could have any history with it? I'm thinking long term here.
-
Wish I had the knowhow, and the space and time to do it.
-
So an engine rebuild is over a grand! Or is it too vague to say? I wouldn't want the hassle of another engine TBH. Don't you have to change your V5 and ins docs and all that? I am sort of to a budget, but my immediate expenditure will be £3500 minus whatever the car costs. The rest I'll have to save up. If anyone knows of a garage that would do it well around leeds/bradofrd area that would be good too.
-
I suppose at the end of the day either way its gunna cost. Nowt to say one thats £5000 wont need an engine rebuild after 6 months! I would like to keep mine totally standard bar probably the interior, which I'd like in tan leather, but thats down the line. If I get the engine rebuilt, at least I know its being done and shouldn't need doing again. Whats the rough estimate for a rebuild? Or is it totally dependant on how bad it is and what needs replacing?
-
Don't worry. You'd look good when your at the side of the road waiting for the AA to arrive!
-
Also, any VW specialists around Keighley? (Leeds bradford area)
-
I'd spend money in the coming months/years on interior and body etc. The thing thats put me off buying one to do up is that my mates just got a VR6 and he's got that 1500rpm idling rattle which after looking on here is going to cost a fortune or he'll get a new engine! My thoughts were, get a high miler, then an engine rebuild so I know things should be fine. Clutch and other stuff too eventually. From other cars I expected rebuild to be around £800-£1000, from what he tells me its nearer £1700!!! Does it depend on what needs replacing? Oh, and it would all be garage/specialist stuff, I'm crap a mechanical stuff so DIY isn't an option unless its basic servicing etc.

Looking into buying a VR6 pretty soon. Going to sell my GTI-6 and finally get the car from the posters! My question is (and you seem to know what your talking about :) ) Would you buy a VR6 that has proven reciepts etc for a lot of work, eg Engine rebuild/clutch etc, or go for a car that is a lot cheaper (say £2k-£3k as opposed to £4k-£5k) but needs work doing. My budget will be about £3500k cash so if I bought one for £2500 I'd be able to spend £1k straight off. Or I could get a small load and buy one for say £5k. I was thinking of doing the latter, over the next year or two I'm wanting to re-do the interior and give it a respray (want a minty mcmint VR6 eventually). It's the mechanicals I can't decide on. Sorry if this make no sense!
