Might be worth getting in touch with the previous owner? Then again is he likely to have done over 83,00 miles when he owned it?
-

what did the MOTs/paperwork say?

Defo porka mate, enquire about running / service costs...think you will be pleasently surpirsed. Would avoid Vauxhall like the plauge. Use to run a V6 Calibra even use to be a memebr of the Calibra forum (Sorry :( ), us Calibra owners had an ols saying that it was cheaper to run a Porka than Vauxhall and that was aboloutley true. Some example of costs I had: Cambelt change: £560 Aux water pump £270 (10 day wait part on backorder) Gearbox cable (£110 !!!! For F**cks sake its a piece of wire in a plastic shroud!!) Sold it after that, before somethihng went really wrong....

HID kit prices are falling...

Picked up some oil from VW today, think its unfair to call them stealers they only charged me £11.74 all in for 5 litres of Sytna Silver 10w/40.

Right just had a qoute from brentacre which I was very pleased with (£534.70) with all mods declared. Untill they told me max total value........£3500!!!!  also £350 excess Reason being my engine is pretty much standard and they see my other mods as being purely cosmetic only, mods that include: 17" bbs RX Braided hoses all round poly bushes all round upgrade callipers, discs all round strut braces coilover suspension VT engine mounts custom made manifold S/S exhaust system and not forgetting the 4x4 conversion  and also some cosmetic chaanges lights, grille etc :cuckoo: :cuckoo: Basically if there car gets smacked it will be an instant write off :( *** Update *** Just got a more sensible quote from HIC, same underwriters, better deal in terms of price and max value :)
-
 Have you decalred your mods??? :D
-
Thought it would have been cheaper to buy a new or second hand one, than get one made or go to the trouble of making one? Weird....no markings on it? Anyone shed any light???

Castrol is a very good brand. GTX is a bit old school for old school engines. Apart from Magnatec (why would you want oil clinging to con rods?! ), they don't have any bad products. Their Edge 10W/60 is incredible stuff for VR6s. Agree it is a good brand, however Castrol seems to have earned there products a poor rep, by claiming products are synthetic when they are not: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pdfs/Beware-o ... elling.doc http://autoviews.blogspot.com/2007/11/t ... -oils.html I know this may not be true for all Castrol products etc, makes you wonder why they would want to tarnish there rep?
-
Thanks Just been reading reviews for Castrol, think I'll stick with OEM LOL

Can't get through to the dealers!!! :( So have a quick Q....... I need to do an oil change and I have been offered Castrol GTX high mileage engine oil (15w/40) 5 litres for £11.73 is this a good price? Just wanted to know how much the VW stuff was? Cheers

DIY is best! Invest in some good manuals - Bentley for the body work and haynes is just about acceptable for the engine. With the money you save from doing all work yourself invest in decent tool sets. Learned a while back if you want to hang on to your Raddo long term, you need be able to do work on it yourself. Most garages seem to think, feck it its an old car anyway, and always manage to bust something in the process of fixinf it!

Cheers What motor you got??? As the lower hose will not fit on mine, as the bottom pipe that feeds the heat exhanger comes off the lower metal pipe. Think its different on the early valvers.....anyone on a 9a done away with these pipes???? If not anyone know where I can buy a rubber end cap?

I have Pflex bushes all round except the steering rack bush, this has been left as OEM rubber as I didn't want to risk having too much vibration transmitted through the steering column. How are you guys finding it with the Pflex bush fitted?

Yep. I crashed my Confused session when being honest with my answers and trying to include modifications. It didn't want to know. Confused is primarily for low risk. 50 plus people with standard Honda civic 1.6s. Another gripe I have is with 'specialist' insurers claiming to be 'VW specialist' insurers are also advertising in Performance Ford, Performance BMW etc etc aswell. This means the specialist knowledge about your car you expect them to have, simply isn't there when getting a quote. HIC (no offense), Greenlight, Flux.... they're all the same, they haven't got a clue about modifications and often put them down incorrectly on the policy schedule, or don't include them at all. This is why I insure with Brentacre. John and Kerry there do know VWs extremely well and I didn't have to explain any of my mods to them, they just knew what they were and understood them and the effects they have on the car's performance and safety. For instance, HIC and Flux didn't enquire about other seconday modifications I was likely to have alongside the turbo, such as intercoolers, forged pistons, bigger brakes, bigger injectors, standalone ECUs etc..... Brentacre asked all of it. On my HIC and Flux policies, it just stated "Supercharger" and that was it. No mention of the other stuff I spent 5 minutes explaining to them down the phone. My Brentacre policy is complete, every conceivable part not standard is listed, so I know they can't weedle out a claim with the non-disclosure excuse. My policy is £980 comp, protected bonus, 400hp limit, SDP and to and from work, 10,000 miles a year and agreed value @ £8K. That may sound a lot, but tbh I'm more wary of cheap quotes. You have to be realistic. A 400hp car capable of 160+mph used every day couldn't, and shoudln't cost £400 a year to insure. If it does, question it. It's essentially a group 20. Try insuring a Grp 20, 400hp Porsche for £400 a year. Never really modded any car as much as I have my Raddo. I want to ensure evry single mod is covered, from what you are saying Brentacre is the way to go. Seems like you got a fantastic price, considering all your mods, do you have full no claims etc?? I want to insure mine very soon (within 3 weeks) for road use and I would rather just go direclt to 1 insurer for a quote. Cheers

Fronts - Use an airline, if the piston is half way out you might be able to pull it out. Rears - You need the rewind tool, makes removal and fitting of piston a doddle

The 80/20 rule....the final 20% is always a bitch! Wonder how much fun it have would have been fitting standard bushes LOL Just done my fronts, all OK except the inner ARBs...real swines!
