  1. Just as another option - how's your heater matrix?? Do you get a 'foggy window' with the blowers on the front screen?? Mine was losing about the same as that in the weeks running up to my matrix failure and once it was bypassed the water loss stopped.
  2. Hi all, i've trawled through the searches but cannot seem to find anything similar to this. I put the new headlight loom on tonight, that all seems fine, however since hooking the battery back up the (i'm assuming VW) alarm has come back to life. It would seem that the siren has already been disconnected and so has any immobiliser that was built into the alarm as the car starts and ticks over fine. Just the bloody hazards come on for a minute or so, then stop, then come back on again then stop etc.... There is a little red light just to the left of the steering wheel that has also come back to life hence why I can tell it's the alarm (genius me..) Is there anyway of disconnecting the hazards (fuse etc??) so I can at least drive it somewhere or am I going to have to pay someone to come visit me?? Cheers
  3. From reading on here I don't think the dash HAS to come out. But it saves on a few grazed knuckles :)
  4. Pay someone to do it?? No, on a more serious note it shouldn't be too difficult. Just get a set of pliers or mole grips and wiggle the clips off. Removing the actual hose is the harder bit. When I did mine half the old matrix came out with it!!
  5. Up until 8.15 last night it was definitely a toy for life, then the head gasket blew and now i'm not so sure :( Really want to keep it but will have to wait and see what the damage is.
  6. Anyone know what hoses I need....please?? :(
  7. Definitely get the rear beam bushes checked - mine was a bit skitty before I had them done and now it feels absolutely planted. Good chance to give the beam a good clean up as well!!! :D
  8. HI Guys, To ressurect an old thread, I am about to start this little project any day now. I currently have 288 Mk3 discs, MK4 Calipers, MK4 Carriers, MK4 Hoses. My questions a) do i need a conversion kit for the front hoses or can I use the MK4's and b) I can't think of at the moment!! Cheers
  9. Lol - only cos I can't be arsed to take it out, the new jack is nicely in it's home. Yeah the 'a stick'!! Not actually sure why it's in there. Think one of my mates may be responsible for that!!! :D
  10. Off the top of my head I have....... Trolley Jack 12v Mini air compressor Two battered pairs of footy boots Various golf clubs Snooker cue A stick The birds ice scraper Spare coolant and water (unmixed) My old rear brake discs My old axle bushes (what's left of them) A bottle of brake fluid Spare HT leads Various CD's
  11. Hi Guys, i've read the whole thread and am sure i'm missing something. I've got Mk4 front calipers and carriers and a set of late Mk3 VR6 discs....... But what hoses do I need?? I've currently got Goodridge going into my 280's but have a feeling they're not going to be any good. I've also got a set of MK4 hoses kicking around. Will either of these be any good or not?? Cheers :D
  12. Triggermyson - a definite thumbs up for the calipers. Sent before payment had even cleared!! Top man :thumbleft:
  13. Don't know if it helps much but my VR was also losing a bit of coolant recently and i just could not find where from. Anyhoo, a couple of weeks ago the heater matrix gave up the ghost and since it's been bypassed I am not losing a drop. Giveaway signs (I know now!) are 'filming up' on the inside of the windscreen where coolant is being pushed out the vents and a mild whiff of G12 inside the car. The only problem is, to inspect your matrix properly it's a dash out job!!!! Good luck :)
  14. Try Elephant - I've heard quite a few people say they are cheap.
  15. I was just under 24 when I got mine. Fully comp with 5 years NCB living in AL5 it was just over £500. And that was just with an immobiliser parked on a driveway. As for the car - i'm sure you'll here all sorts of different opinions on here but on the whole and speaking from experience, very reliable. Just make sure you get one thats been well looked after - there are some nails out there, and there are also some absolute beauts, it's worth waiting for the right one. Look in the cars for sale and you'll see for yourself - there's even a very tidy storm in there for £4.5k!!! Running costs again, depend on what you get. One with knackered chains, bushes etc will cost a fair whack to put right, unless you're handy with the tools and have time on your hands. But if you do get one, you won't regret it!!! Where in Herts are you fella??
  16. Hahahahahaha, I bought em during the world cup as they had England on them. They are no longer :)
  17. I had flip flops on - does that make a difference? :D
  18. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: Well done Chris!!
  19. Have a look at the buying guide for info. If you've not been out in one i'm sure many of the members will take you for a drive. Then go and look in the cars for sale section easy as 1,2,3............. :D
  20. About the only thing I can brag about at the moment with the C off the road :(
  21. I must admit that i've been quite fortunate in my life and working for an investment bank I have been lent a few sweet cars in my time. The quickest, without a doubt would have to be the Murcielago I took down to Monaco just over a year ago. I managed just over 180 in it and was absolutely s*it scared. But what a car, it took nearly £300 of fuel to get from Loughton to Monaco....but it did only take 11 and a bit hours!!!! The fastest i've owned, funnily enough was an old BM 750i that someone had put nitrous on (???!?) I owned it for about a week and made a £250 profit on it :D Fastest i've been in a car - the year before the Murcielago I was driven down to the Monaco GP in a Diablo 6.0 VT and although the speedo never appeared to go over the magical 200 we apparently hit 201mph and that was a reading from the cars black box so must be fairly accurate. There are pictures of that car on http://www.wreckedexotics.com but I think they're in the archive now!! Most interesting - another mates '82 Aston V8 Vantage in bright red. Absolutely everyone stares at it, no matter who they are. And it chucks so much unburnt fuel out the back it's verging on ridiculous. Good however when you're being tailgated!! Again, a picture of this car is on http://www.exoticspotter.com taken in St Tropez. Cheers
  22. To revive an old thread - my heater matrix went last night and as I was driving with no socks or shoes on (it was hot!!!!!) I did get scolded by the water that shot out from behind the dash. It came out the drivers side and there was quite a bit of pressure in the water coming out. As I have a pre '93 VR, is there any chance that it will get replaced by 'recall'??? And, failing that any chance that I could take legal action against VW for my burnt left foot??? Cheers
