Toad, that's tonights list of things to check... if it's not a pair of failed injectors, then it's off to a garage for them to try and work out what's going on with it... :(
-
unlikely to be pressure plate, that'd cause the clutch not to grip... more likely the pressure plate springs or clutch release bearing failing so that when you press the clutch pedal, the clutch never dis-engages... Had this plenty of times on my old MKI 16V until I finally upgraded the clutch and flywheel for something a little meatier! *edit* mis-read first post, could do with some more info please matey... Can you actually get it to go into gear when the engine's running, or does it just crunch? If you can get it into gear, as you let the clutch pedal up does it just not do anything? (see Andi's post below)

Chris VR6nos, just make sure you follow the bedding in procedure (if they have one, look at the mintex website for details) else they may not be particularly great when cold... the old 1144s really needed bedding in to make 'em any use at all when cold... ;)

spent ages scratching my head trying to work out why my car is only running on cylinders 3 and 4... replaced £200 worth of parts and am still no further on.... :(

breather filter g60 plus why ditch giro valve? new Question!
Henny replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in Engine Bay
quick tip: DUMP the gyro valve... ;) -
If you can't quite stretch to CNC's work (and it is DAMNED good!) then RacePower (in Kent) do some good work to Valver heads too... http://www.racepowermotorsport.com Personally I'd do a CNC head after having been around their workshop and seeing how they work and having an 8V one on my G60 which is just THE Dogs swinging bits... 8)

check that the expansion tank hasn't cracked while you're replacing the cap... ;)

congrats... 8)

yeah, you said VR, but they're the same size as G60... Mintex 1144 compound (also known as C-Tech) - Used 'em in both standard G60 brakes and with my Brembo setup and they're very, VERY good... About £50 IIRC Very Good - especially if you follow the bedding in procedure properly Yes, lots of dust (as a good pad should do!) Black backing colour, but come with Funky blue anti-squeek backing stickers Ferodo standard jobbies from Halfords about £25 utter crap, take hours to warm up and then fade horribly under heavy braking very little dust Black backing.

lambda sensor doesn't need cleaning, it does that itself on it's warm up cycle if it's OK... you may want to tap into the purple wire to the lambda and stick a multimeter on it (and the -ve of the battery) to see what sort of signals it's putting out... if it's stuck at .36V it's dead... it should fluctuate between 0 and 1V as it's at idle after a couple of minutes of idling... if not, it's dead. You NEED to leave it connected to the original wiring though else you'll get SFA out of it as it won't have power going to it!

there is a joint under each side of the dashboard which has a nasty habbit of splitting and stopping the front doors from working... If both doors aren't working, I'd suspect a break on the drivers side by the earthing block under the dash just up from the fuse box... ;)
-
Yup, that's the knock sensor... If the outer sleave is knackered, the odds are that the sensor is also knackered... it's ultra sensitive to electrical noise (hence the co-axial style cable) and if the outer shield is damaged it's gonna be picking up all sorts of background noises you don't want...
-
they're not expensive from VAG new... Personally, I'd avoid the ones from GSF or Euro as the plastic weld around the middle isn't as good quality and I've had several burst in the past... :(
-
yup, congrats on the move Daz, hope it's the start of bigger and better things! 8) Gizza call when that gauge comes in and I'll pay you there and then... need to know WTF my engine's doing!

got myself a genuine Dell 12V power supply for it which I'm going to use on a switched live (taken from the same circuit as the windows ;) ). That'll power the lappy when the car's in use. The laptop also has 2 batteries in it (now!) which will power it for upto 6 hours use (with screen, so about 9 hours without it... ;) ) and has powersaving enabled so that when the power supply from the car switches off, the laptop hybernates after 10 minutes to save power... Laptop will never need to reboot unless I tell it to. It's got an 802.11G card in it, GPS dongle, 40GB HDD, and will probably have a tom-tom emulator too... ;) I just need to get hold of a center console to build in my 7.5" screen... Not bad really considering the whole package so far has cost me £150!
-
nope... that's very odd... :|
-
that pic you've included has had a TFT monitor added into the original ABS plastic of the center console... You can easily plastic weld the center console plastic to add in things like a gauge panel (done this on both my Corrados) or other things like climatronic (Jay has done this to several Corrados now) or TFT touch screens like I'm about to do to H-YYU similar to that pic above. You can then use some body/plastic filler and black plastic paint to make it look like a factory install... it's pretty easy to do, just a bit fiddly and time consuming to make it look like it's original. 8)
-
keep watching folks.... 7" TFT touch screen and Dell P4 1.8GHz laptop (with broken screen!) all setup and ready to assemble into my car now... just gotta get another center console to modify to fit 'em all into... 8)

shhh don't tell everyone... ;) *runs off to move microwave sensor....*

I thought it was 10% so 25 blue and 25 green automatics the same as Jim said... :| :?:

picture request... underhood pic of right drive G60

Have a look in the gallerys for my 2 cars (Both J-DUB and H-YYU) and you'll find a load of engine bay shots without the engine/cylinder heads so you can see the whole brake system clearly... J-DUB has ABS, H-YYU doesn't, so you can see both versions clearly... 8) -
Stunning machine.....then saw this........,

*cough* that'd be an AC ACE he shoe-horned a V8 into then to make it become a Cobra... ;) Shelby started off fitting V8 engines of around 250Ci to the ACE/COBRA and the production ended up with a 428Ci V8, but the big mother was the 427Ci engine which was basically a full race nascar engine, unlike the 428 which was out of a big Lincoln and was much more of a plodder... (well, as much of a plodder as a 7litre+ V8 engine in an aluminum bodied sports car can be!!! ) IIRC, The Cobra still holds the world record for the longest skidmarks before a fatal accident... Some bloke span his 427 cobra for a rediculous distance in California and ended up going off a cliff resulting in his death... To say it's got a bite was an understatement... Yup, it's my favourite car of all time... 8) /anorak -
I've got J-DUB in a 40' container in a storage yard... Currently, she's had the front suspension taken off, a new front wing fitted and will have new front suspension fitted all inside the container... about the only thing I don't think I could do in there is respray her 'cos it's just that little bit toooo narrow... I'm paying £125 a month for the lockup which is alarmed and has 24hour pre-arranged access... 8)
