  7. I had problems with my abs for a long time. Light staying on then going off after breaking or if I restarted car etc. it turned out it was the abs sensor on one of the wheels. Simple fix and not expensive when I got around to it

  12. Dublin - This morning about 9:15. Black? Rado, not sure of model - Looked clean. High vis jacket on and on the phone at side of road in an estate in Dublin 2 near SCR. Gave eachother a wave.

This thought has crossed my mind recently also as you never know when the rado will abruptly cease to function, although with slightly different considerations: - I work away from my family during the week, so have a 300 mile round trip at the weekends and rado is my daily driver - Wife due a baby, so thinking I need a car that will take 2 baby seats in the back and my 8 year old in the middle (so 2x2's are out-need middle seat belt) I agree with all the comments below on just how special the corrado is (which is why I've owned mine for 10 years). Originally thought of getting an FTO/GTO,an old audi Quattro or an S2. You can't beat the Corrado for that feeling of cameraderie between drivers, the rareness (especially in Ireland) and the shape - sporty but not shouty I would love an A5, but way to expensive, so I thought of an A4 1.8T conv. (cheap insurance, good shape, but conv. too :camp: ). Could probably just about bring myself to drive a BMW if was a fully specced 325+ ci (maybe in red)or the M3 (pretty rare in Ireland, althrough the insurance here and the chances of it gettign nicked are high, not to mention the fact that a £10K one would cost an additional €15k+ in VRT import tax! :mad2: Its bad that the BMW is the only reasonable alternative I could come up with :shrug: A dilemma indeed!

I've never had it on a VAG-com so I've sort of resigned myself to living with it until I get a chance to meet up with someone that has one - would that identify the problem? - maybe I should just order a new cold start valve and try that in the meantime? I've put up 110k miles on it over 10 years and its never had anything adjusted from standard to tune it or anything.
  15. I thought that too, but brought it straight back to mechanic and watched as he checked it. All spot on and back on the marks made before he stripped it. New distributor cap, injectors, leads and plugs notlong before too
  16. I thought I should update this as I did get the KR cam fitted. It feels much quicker - best comparison I can make is that it's as revvy as the 1.8 16v now, but with more torque at the low end. I've enjoyed it for many months now :D Also drilled holes in the air intake box and replaced filer with a K&N one. The downside I noticed since the KR cam went in is that it was immediately much harder to start when cold! I thought it was a fuel pump/fuel cut-off problem (when it wouldnt start and I had to get it towed!), but turns out the fuel was flowing no problem and I just needed to give it plenty of fuel before trying to start it. I haven't heard anyone else comment about this problem on here,so here are the symptoms if anyone has experience of this - would love to get it sorted so the wife can drive it without it cutting out all the time in the first mile! 1. Have to pump the accelerator before trying to start it when engine not up to temperature. If you try to start it without the pedal pumping, it seems to flood itself with petrol. Removing the wire to the cold start injector tends to give it a fighting chance of starting but when it does it pops and bangs for a few seconds before stabilising 2. car will idle when started but its down at 200-300 revs, so not doing it any good. give it a few revs and let it off and its back to the normal 800 rpm idle - I'm guessing the knock sensors kick in to do this. 3. as soon as you move off and stop again (before the oil temperature registers onthe MFA), it cuts out and you have to restart again 4. Once its up to temp, it flys along, lots of power, idles perfectly at 800 rpm etc. Anyone got any ideas? Looking for a 50mm inlet manifold now - might getting more air in there solve the problem? Is it linked to me having got the big bore pistons fitted? Theres 150k on the engine, but it was completely rebuilt at 110k and there are no funy noises. Drinks a bit of oil (at least a ltr per 1000miles) , but has done for some time and I think thats normal enough

I reckon it won't hold and not interested in a botch job - do too many long disance miles to have it let me down, so I reckon I will chance it for now and order the parts monday. is it just the operating rod I need to order (#536 955 325) or do I need more from the .pdf ? Mine looks just like the photos on the post already
  19. Hi guys - have (maybe had) the same problem. I've tried the melt the nylon bush option for now and it seems to be holding but not tested on the road yet. Expect I will have to go with the drilling option. Just to confirm - there is no other fixture that is supposed to go on top of this to keep the operating rod on?

  21. Update - still have the problem. It's a lottery if it starts or not. Does not seem affected by whether engine is cold or hot. Just won't kick at all one time and then will start no probelm the next. Any suggestions welcome. What I have tried.. Checking all the wiring to sensors and can't find anything amiss Checked that ISV microswich is working Checked for air leaks in piping to throttle body checked what i think is the potentiometer (front of air box at cockpit side) - the swtiched opening the valves on wither side of this appear to be opening correctly with ignition. thanks
