Will definitely pop over at some point and see how all this is going Dave. As for the ride in the end product, can't wait!

Looking good Dave.

Well thank God you didn't let her drive then.

HELP NEEDED from anyone near Fareham to start with!!!
Mr Sands replied to Blue_Joe's topic in General Car Chat
Might well be able to help out towards the end of its journey, doing one of the last legs up towards Brum. Will be on holidays from Wednesday if it helps, let me know. -
Mate, fantastic news. A piece of Corrado history about to be restored and treasured and shared via the forum. Great work!

How many of us have near original spec Corrados?
Mr Sands replied to Bojmobile's topic in General Car Chat
As my sig shows, 100% original. Here's another view. -
Yes, mine too. Boy, VR's really are as cheap as chips at the moment, aren't they? Given that it's already acquiring classic status, now would really seem to be the time to buy in if you're in for the long haul.

How many C owners plan to have a Porsche one day?
Mr Sands replied to Phil K's topic in General Car Chat
Yes, the 944 was a sweet looking thing. -
Rough day! But at least you still own one of the rarer and better looking motors on the road.

Another appeal for help from peeps with Mk IV Golf knowledge

Latest update: my mate rang round a couple of likely places just to gauge the cost if needed. The Stealers wanted £120 min to change it! Kwik-fit wouldn't touch it, advising him to go to a Veedub specialist since apparently the sensor for the airbags is in the bumper, which makes removing it complicated! Thoughts anyone? It's looking increasingly like trying to do it in situ! -
Believe there is. When I was looking at quotations, Lancaster were no good as my 'rado was one year too new! This year, come renewal time, I should be eligible.

Which is pretty much on a par with trying to hack off your own knob. -

Trust me chap, you don't want to watch this chap trying to remove his bumper. Unless it's by cresting hump on a B road at speed, in which case he stands a chance. -
Bloody hell, no mincing of words there. Where I teach, the MX5 is THE car of choice among staff. At the last count, we had no fewer than SEVEN (among a staff of seventy odd). There were a few mornings where they got in at the same time and parked in a row.

Cheers pal. Will have another go tomorrow, preferably with some daylight. From having had a squiz at the Mk IV owners' forum, it would seem that everything you fellers have said is true, about it being possible to do (but very fiddly) without removing the bumper, but that removing the bumper is the only way to get the entire headlight unit out. Seems the way forward would seem to be to remove the plastic battery cover to free up a little more room, then finding someone with girly hands (the missus?) to try and reach where I can't! Oo-er... Will let you know how it goes, but again, most appreciative of your expertise and ready advice, as will be my mate when I pass on the word tomorrow. All the best, Ed. -

Too true, this was exactly my point of view. Though given that this is not my car, my pride isn't technically at stake! -

Fellers, classy response, enormously grateful to you. Will see what can be managed. And no, I hadn't started taking the bumper off! Bloody hellfire, the day's long enough already without fecking about in the dark taking off the bumper (all on a slanted driveway!). -

Buggerit Rodders. I had a horrible feeling about that, but it seemed almost too far fetched! I know that modern cars are more complex, less user friendly, etc etc etc but it seemed a bit much somehow that the bumper needs to come down just to get the damn bulb out! Mind you, you should've heard me on the drive, saying words to the effect of "Bloody modern cars, far too complicated, can't even replace a sodding bulb easily...blimey, I thought the VR engine bay was busy, but every time I look in yours, I realise that I don't know the meaning of the word crowded..." and so on! Appreciate the help so far though mate. Now, if that is the case that the bumper's got to come off, any advice for doing so? Where do I need to look for its bolts etc? -
I have used the search but didn't turn up any tips, apologies if I've been blind. Yup, back again with the questions regarding my mate's Mk IV TDI. Offside main bulb is out. Looks to be a halogen element, yes? Readily available from Halfrauds, or a main dealer thing? Furthermore, how the devil do you get the headlamp unit out to change it? Had a quick look in the dark this evening and was able to find two screws at the top holding the headlamp unit in, but having taken those out, there would seem to be one down at the bottom somewhere holding the whole unit in somehow! I have a feeling I'm missing something monumentally obvious here, but can't see it! Do I have to take the whole unit out to change it, or is it like a 'rado fix where in theory I CAN fix it in situ? If I DO have to take the whole headlamp unit out, how do I get to the remaining screws? I have a nasty feeling I might have to remove the bumper, but that seems ridiculously extreme for changing a headlamp bulb.

I turned 25 in January and promptly bought my VR. Had been waiting for years to do that, painfully building up four expensive years of no-claims' bonus on a 1.6 Golf. With those four years, living somewhere reasonable, with a steady low risk profession and having turned the magic age of 25, my VR costs me £650 fully comprehensively insured with Endsleigh.

Gutted for you mate.
