  1. Daily. But i work like 2 miles from my house, so i've stopped being lazy and i now ride to work instead, so the C is only used evenings and weekends. Still a daily though as i use it if it rains. Sod riding in the rain!
  2. Well its sorted. Replaced the rear calipers and pads, then replaced the Handbrake cable. Was actually a vert easy job, which is surprising on a C. Also had time to put my new seats in (same as the old ones only much better conditiond) and fit a few bits of interior trim that i had lying around, the older bits where snapped etc. All in all everything should not be fine. Within the large 12 months the car has had: All new calipers All new disks All new pads Handbrake cable Full VW exhaust system Oil pump FULL engine rebuild Now surely to god nothing else mechanical is even allowed to break in the next 2 years
  3. I can understand where you're coming from, i wouldnt sell the C to anyone unless i know they'd look after it, or if they lived many miles away from me.
  4. I seriously hope that isnt the case, as that doesnt sound like much fun at all! The handbrake cable could do with replacing anyway, its looking a little frayed at the caliper end anyway. Luckily i have a brand new one in the garage, so that wont cost any extra. Its a ballache on my driveway though. It slopes down and to one side slightly, so unless you get the car as straight as possible it lends to one side when you start to jack it up, very un-nerving!
  5. Replaced the knackered caliper and the pads on both sides. However, we have now found the problem. When the handbrake up engaged and then released it only released on the far side. So the drivers side handrake remains engaged, obviously causing the binding issue. So im guessing that the next logical step is to replace the handbrake cable. Luckily i already have a spare on in the garage. Ive looked under the car and it seems like a simple enough job. To be honest i think the hardest part if going to be taking the centre console apart. So thats the story so far, 1 new caliper, new pads, the discs are fine and i didnt bother with the wheel bearing. Onto the hand brake cable tomorrow. P.S.- working the rain is great!!
  6. He sorting some bits and bobs out on his Rado ready to sell it, he's pretty much the only dubber i know at work, lol. I know you can still get the complete units from the stealers, but you're talking £100+. He's on afternoons next week, so i wont be seeing him till later in the week. I was gonna charge him around £15/£20 maybe. And thanks for the 1000th thing, i didnt even realise
  7. Early drivers side headlamp lens? A bloke at work is after one. I had two sets of headlights at home. One set if perfectly fine, but the other has missing clips and such, and so aren't really worth anything, BUT the drivers side lens is fine. Sooooo, how much do you reckon i should charge him for it? I ask because i simply have no idea at all
  8. Also i think you'd have the problem that most people would want to drop more than 35mm, like yourself
  9. My dad reckons the piston has seized and so thinks it might be worth just replacing that, he's done it a few times with past cars (from back in his Capri days). Reckon that could solve it?
  10. Only scooby i would consider is one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-Subaru-Impre ... dZViewItem Love hearing the exhaust note on them, even when they're just pootling around
  11. Im in the same boat. My rado continues to disappoint me by breaking down and costing me a small fortune when it does. My parents think i should take out a loan and get a newer car, in the hope that its more reliable. The only problems is, i cant see what i would want to drive more than my C! I would only do this if i was to keep the C too, but then i would still spend a fortune on it which would completely defeat the point.
  12. Im about to buy some bits for my rear brake setup. Im needing discs, pads and possibly calipers. Would i bet better off buying branded items as opposed to the GSF branded stuff?
  13. According to the haynes manual for the mk2 golf its simple, you get lovely haynes phrases like 'slide out' and 'gently remove'. Whereas 17yrs later these phrases need to be replaced with 'bash with hammer' and 'storm off swearing'
  14. I suppose for the £6 its gonna cost in parts it would make sense
  15. My right rear caliper has decided to start binding, pretty badly. This means that the first 2 inches of pulling on the handbrake does sod all, and the binding is causing air pockets in the brake lines, so on the way home i lost all pressure in the brake pedal. Its definately the rear caliper binding, so is it simply a case of new caliper time? Im assuming it would be sensible to replace the calipers on both sides, as well as the discs and pads? Any help appreciated, im going to attempt to tackle it myself on saturday
  16. The MFA works fine. Its the speedo and the clock that resets to zero. Everything else stays as it was when i was last in the car. It only does this sometimes though.
  17. I reckon around what you paid for it. Like someone said if it was a mk2 it would be around £3.5k, which is crazy really. There are loads more 16v golfs than rado's, and the rado is generally a better car, yet the valvers are worth squat. Probably because the 16V was the top of the range for the mk2, but bottom of the range for the Rado
  18. Ok, so i get in my car, i set the clock and reset the mile counter when i fill up. I drive 10 miles home. Next morning i get into my car and the clock is back at zero and the miles have reset themselves. However, the MFA has still stored my average MPG and the stereo hasnt been affected, the CD starts in the place i left it. So the only thing to be affected is the clcok and mile counter? Which is very annoying when im trying to test the number of miles i get for my £20 of petrol. Any ideas? Also my clock lights come on dim then brighten up when i hit the screen
  19. The sub contractors at work get paid petrol expenses. They get paid over the top, so after 2-3 days driving to work and back they've been paid enpugh to cover all week. So the extra they get pays for their weekend travelling. In essence, they dont pay for fuel :(
  20. The older civics kick ass in my personal opinion. Never owned one myself, but a old mate of mine (dont see him much anymore) used to have one. Didnt half shift! Then again i drive an early C valver, so it doesnt take much to impress in comparison to that!
  21. I might go for a Bastuk system. It might be overly loud, but at least it wont be strapped to the back of a corsa, i guess a Rado is allowed to be loud
  22. In the Bastuk systems all of the 'silencing' is done with the back box. So on pre-cat cars it is literally a case of manifold straight to the back box. I've heard they're insanely loud. On the one hand, thats bad. But on the plus side my mate has a nice loud exhaust on his pulsar and that sounds rather tasty.
  23. My valver had full service history and around 1.5" of reciepts, from years and years back. However, 3 months later the piston rings went and i spent £1000 on an engine rebuild. History is not everything.
  24. I've been looking at these systems for a lil while. I understand that you can get them with more or less silencers than a 'standard' system. Now, part of me wants to recreate the humble sound of my old mk2 golf that had a magnex system on. It sounded very nice lower down in the rev range. Downside is, they cost like £350-£400. However, being at the young age of 21 there is still a small part of me that wants to be a noisy rebel. The cheapest Bastuk exhaust system can be bought for £200-£250. However, this system has NO silencers, and with it being an early valver there will be no cat either, so it will most likely be insanely loud! Opinions?
  25. True! My dad wasn't impressed when he saw the pic! He's had a few in the past, 1.6laser and a 2.8i, really didnt want to the sell the 2.8i. It sold the same day it was put in autotrader. The guy rang up, said he would have it for definate without coming to look first, then jumped on the next train, came from wales too!
