  1. My valver needed an engine rebuild after 118k and kicked out 25mpg on average, lol However, now its had the rebuild it gives 32mpg+ and it should be good for another 5-10yrs now.
  2. At the end of the day in comparison to my mates cars mine is older, costs more to run, is slower, and is turning pink, but they all envy me :D 8)
  3. To be honest if i had £2k i'd rather buy a good condition valver than an average condition G60. Im one of these people that if im going to buy something, i'll buy the best of that model i can. When i got my valver for £1800 there was a local G60 for £150 more, but if i wanted a G60 i would budget £3k+ to get a better one. Same with the valver, there were plenty for £1000, but i wanted to pay extra and get a better one. Having said that, 9 months into ownership ive spent £1500 on repairs, that including an engine rebuild, so maybe my above theory is full of ****
  4. A 2.0 16v Corsa... :? They came in a 1.8, my mate has one, its faster than the valver. Then my other mate has a 200bhp red top in his, now that just makes me look silly
  5. Oh dear, i had the same thing with my valver a few months back. Turns out to be the piston rings were knackered, que an expensive rebuild! A leakdown test is the best thing to do first, but good luck finding somewhere that will do it, my local mechanic had never heard of one!
  6. Nearly as clean as mine :D
  7. How many beetles did they destroy to build that? Defo a car on 'the list' though, as are so many!!
  8. impressed, the 55hp model :) having no servo was not a great cost saving measure by VW  Too true, after having the C this just felt dangerous! I do love the lil thing tho, will be nice to have a car i dont really care about too, kinda of a fun lil toy
  9. 1.3 Formel E model. 5th gear is the 'E' gear, which does NOTHING!! saves on petrol, but doesnt get you very far! From the factory they were supposed to give 45-50mpg, but being a carb engine that has gone out the window, and it now costs more to get the carb tuned that the savings made in the petrol department. And the brakes!! Well, i dont care if they get the car through an mot, there is no way i would drive it like that, they are dangerous, simple as. When i get in the Rado again im gonna be headbutting the steering wheel!
  10. Write it off then buy it back, i need a tornado red front panel and bonnet
  11. Sunroof mechanism. My mate helped me out and i told him to be careful when removing the trim, didnt want to lose/damage anything. He got all his side off, without breaking or losing anything. I broke and lost all sorts, and somehow managed to take longer too!
  12. I have found a solution to this problem, although its slightly expensive! Since my engine rebuild im getting 30ish around town (which valvers dont like driving around) and 38-40ish on long journeys
  13. Not quite the same but my mate has a Corsa B with a 2.1 redtop in it. Pushing 200bhp now its all runnng correctly. Made my valver look silly.......
  14. Looks good. Ive got a blaupunkt headunit and hard drive in my C. It works very well, but the folder system is a lil difficult to use sometimes.
  15. Dont let this thread die. A .pdf guide would be excellent, similar to the sunroof ones floating about. Both of which are very useful guys, just incase the authors read this, just wanna say good work with those!
  16. That sounds like a plan. The early grills have 2 plastic clips along the bottom, the lates have 3 (why VW did this i have no idea). So my late FK grill dont fit onto my early front end. Stupid thing is i've had the grill for 3-4 months before realising as it just sat in the box on my wardbrobe
  17. I've always wanted to have a crack at polishing some stuff myself, but never had a go. Now my uni course is done i might experiment. Pics and the method would be cool, if poss.
  18. I've got an FK grill at home but the clips along the bottom do not line up as my car is an early valver. How do i make it fit? Or can i sell it and purchase one that is made for the earlier C's?
  19. Audi have got to be infront in the car game at the minute, going from strength to strength
  20. Ive spent the weekend tearing my interior apart in order to replace the sunroof mechanism, and whilst i was doing it i spotted all sorts of little niggling things that i want to get sorted. Now ive had a few of my mates question why im spending so much money on 'just a valver', but this hasnt stopped me. Since buying the car 9 months back i have spent around £1500 on it, including a full engine rebuild. Now when the engine was knackered i was considering getting rid of the car, but when ive hit obstacles with my past 2 cars i got rid of them, so i decided to carry on with this one are spent the required money on it. Now my master plan is to purchase my old polo saloon back from my uncle and use it as a daily, then spent the necessary money as and when i can on the C to get it how i want it. Then once the bodywork and interior is up to standard the plan is to get an engine conversion, possible 1.8T or even a 2.0L FSI by the time i get to that stage! Then with the rebuild KR lump drop that into the polo. This is most likely one of those plans that will never actually end up happening, but it justifies my current spending on the car. Anyone else have a master plan with their cars?
  21. The KR lumps can be like this. Some seem very strong and fast, others dont. My 1.8 valver doesnt feel as fast as i hoped it would, but then some of my mates struggle to keep up with me and yet i think their cars are nippy when im in them. I think its a perception thing, i feel alot more 'cacooned' in the C than i did in my golf.
  22. My old polo saloon was perfect for this. It had one owner from new, 75k on the clock, 12 months tax and MOT for £150. I ran it for a year, never touched it mechanical wise and sold it 12 months later for £100 with no tax/mot, perfect!
  23. 9 months later and i have spent £1300 but have done neither, hmmm
