It would seem i am the first to bring this up, but did anyone see the nonsense with Massa's blue flags? He was pulling away from Hamilton and Raikonnen and yet still got 2 blue flags!!! On a further note, any more news on VW joinin F1? -

Polo GTI... Thoughts, opinoins and reviews please
skinnyman9000 replied to veedub's topic in General Car Chat
I looked at them a few years back but they were still pricey (£6-7k), but i believe the prices have dropped to around £4k now. They certainly come with all the gadgets, but i was also warned about the gearbox, weak link i think. Also the engine is nippy (1.6 16V) but i can imagine it wouldnt enjoy being fully laden. Nothing a BAM engine swap couldnt solve im sure. -
Its definately made me realise when to show more caution. Ive had to take it steady recently due to the engine rebuild, so ive been playing with the cars handling, taking corners a little faster, throwing it into bends down country lanes etc, i guess this time i just found the cars limit. After 3.5yrs though something like this was definately due. Luckily it was 11:30pm, so there were no other cars on the road and afterwards i just restarted the car and drove on, to get out the way incase anything came. I've got the afternoon off work to try to sort the wheel out. I've rang 3 local garages and they're all mega busy, so im just going to pop the wheel off and take a look around myself. The squeeking doesnt change in pitch or anything when the brakes are applied, so hopefully it will just be a stone, because i did throw up some gravel! As for the wing, they're easy enough. Although now ive said that i bet i wont see any early red rado being broken for aaaages.

Well, it finally happened. After 3.5yrs of driving without any crashes, points, or runs in with the coppers, i've had a crash. Not a major one, but it could have been alot worse. Was driving down the dual carriageway, then pulled off onto a single carriage way that joins with another (one of those slip round sort of things). Anyway, comes onto the slip round, signs tell me to slow down, i ignore them. So 60/70mph into the corner, crap tyres, and wet road = a spin out. Felt the car starting to skid, the back end flips out, the car spins 180 and ends up going backwards on the gravel at the side of the road. Some how it then spun a further 90deg with the front end heading for the barrier. Almost managed to stop before hitting the barrier, but failed. Luckily it only clip the front wing of the car, nothing else. So now it looks like this: DOH! I also have a dirty squeeking sound coming from the front left wheel, possibly wheel bearing or could have knocked the brakes out of line. Either way its going down the local garage after work tomorrow for a once over. Then i guess it'll be new front wing time. Looking back it was very foolish and i certainly have more respect for the road now. It was bad luck to happen, but could have been alot worse. Some of my friends were in the car and if we had of hit the gravel sideways the car could have easily rolled over. Just after all thsi talk of dangerous young drivers too :(

Having just had the rebuild done on mine i would consider a turbo conversion, if the prices were at all sensible.

Thinking of buying a VW Bora as I family car....
skinnyman9000 replied to C. Will Corrado G60 2's topic in General Car Chat
My mate picked up a diesel S reg passat for just £2k, little over 80k on the clock too. God knows why he bought it, he's a single 21yr old lad, lol -
doesnt anyone make after market gauge faces for the 16v?
skinnyman9000 replied to waynos's topic in Interior
This doesnt help you in the slightest, but i am also interested in the answer to this question -
Out of interest where have people hit the limiter in their valver? I've had mine to 8k and bottled it. Dont worry, this isnt a common occurance, it was on the way to the garage for a full engine rebuild, so it got abused on the way there, lol
-
Ive got some 16's lined up for my 1.8 valver, infact they've been in the garage for at least 9 months (im not the only one eh?) They're 7.5" wide and im hoping for a 60mm drop, hopefully they'll look just right. Oh, and the only other car ive ever seen them on was a mk2 rocco a few years back, they're rather marmite!

All i hear is people talking about 'that VR6 noise' or 'that supercharger whine'. But am i the only one that thinks the sound of the KR lump with a standard exhaust is also rather nice? When i put my foot down (ok i dont go forward much faster) but i love the engine not you get. Also, the standard exhaust has just the right level of noise on it too, nice and rumbly. Anyone else?

Repair sunroof, problem half way through........now with pic
skinnyman9000 replied to skinnyman9000's topic in Interior
I got mine in and it all worked fine, i tilted the sunroof, fine, i slid it all the way back, fine. BUT THEN i slid it back forward and it didnt take the interior panel with it :? Then when i tried to slide it back again it pushed the interior panel back before the metal part was in line with it and it tore some of the fabric on the metal strip that runs from one side of the sunroof to the other, not happy! However, i think i know how to fix it. Its just catch 22 at the minute though, i keep getting wet as it leaks due to the rain, but i cant fix it, due to the rain, doh!! -
In my experience the sunroof on the rado is a complete nightmare! I know that isnt much help, lol. If you do a search there are a few guides on how to repair it

No passengers for people under 25 is ridiculous. Why cant i take the missus out for a nice meal at night? How do my mates get to the pub if they dont drive? If we want to go to the cinema why should be have to take 5 cars? Bloody stupid
-
My valver is still original from the factory :D Although i have to be honest i thought the Iroc was going to be a sports coupe, and that looks like yet another hatchback, i dont think it distinguishes itself from the mk5 golf enough, also if its out in 2008 wont there be a mk6 golf on the way shortly after? Surely VAG have plenty of hatchbacks in the market already?
-
The FM stereo will no longer work, but i believe you can reprogramme the some aspects of the headunit to run at UK spec, its just a case of having the software/know where to get it
-
Doesn't it feel nice to have an engine running well? :D
-
I took the missus to the zoo yesterday for a lil day out. The journey was a 60miles round trip, and my 1.8 valver managed an AVERAGE mpg of 37.9!!! Yes, 37.9mpg, from a valver! And that included town driving, country roads and dual carriage ways! Also the temp never went over 80 and the oil temp never went over 98. All in all i think thats pretty good, as valver owners will know how hard it is to get decent mpg out of the KR lumps.

sunroof lid alignment? now leaking worse! help
skinnyman9000 replied to sim0n_parker's topic in Interior
Im currently going through this delightful experience too. I have the exterior panel in place, all the screws nipped up and it sits level etc, but now the interior panel is giving me trouble. I cannot get it to slide back underneath the exterior panel. Ive tried everything, so my only other option is to remove the entire mechanism from the car (again) and try to sort it out that way. I do curse whoever invented this sunroof mechanism though, as it truely is shocking. -
Alternative to crap Rado sunroof mechanism?
skinnyman9000 replied to skinnyman9000's topic in Exterior
If it was economically feasible i would have the sunroof taken out and the hole welded up and the roof resprayed, but obviously that will cost muchos dollaros So why not just sod it and leave the sunroof closed? Funny you should mention that because that's exactly what im doing. Once i get the interior panel back in correctly (which is doing my nut in) im going to correctly line up the sunroof and then disconnect the cable so that it cannot be opened. I dont see the point in sunroofs anyway, they annoy me. So once its back in its never being moved ever again. -
That's what I was hoping when I fitted mine the other day ... still, I can confirm they are a massive improvement over standard wipers and don't look out of place either Only thing is, Kev makes it sound dead easy to chop an inch off one of the blades, it's not, it took a set of bolt cutters to get through the blade (spring steel is tough!), then a grinder to reshape the metal so you can get the plastic end cap back on properly. Thats what i was worried about, i didn't think it would be as easy as 'snipping an inch off'. Still i think this needs to be looked at. Now shall i buy some wipers and a headlight loom, or put the money towards my coilovers, hmmmm.
