He could end up being charged. But teach him to stop in the future

I had a spin out a few months back. Was going down a slip road from one carriageway to the next, hit the corner at 60, shouldnt have been doing more than 30. Hence the back end swung out, hit the gravel at the side backwards, bounced a lil, car spun again hit the barrier. Dent my front wing. Happens to everyone at some point i guess

Can you afford to run a corrado, 1.11 per litre?
skinnyman9000 replied to anndy's topic in General Car Chat
I think you'll find that around town the KR lumps are much worse than the VR's for petrol :( -
I used to buy from the states alot. Even after shipping, import duties etc it still came in ALOT cheaper. My old gripe was parcelforce. They would charge £15-£20 to take the package from east midlands airport to my house, but would try to deliver in the day. So then when no one was in they would take the parcel back to their depot for me to pick up. Only problem was the depot was further away than the airport. So they'd just take the package 10miles further away from my house, then charge me for it!

How safe do you feel in your Corrado?
skinnyman9000 replied to Bojmobile's topic in General Car Chat
I feel alot safer than in my mum's focus! Feels like plastic and tin foil -
I haven't as yet. Is there any you can recommend so i can pop down the local halfrauds after work tomorrow? If i tell them what im looking for they'll end up returning with some shampoo! Just rang the stealers and the cable is only £26 and will be in by saturday morning, so i think i'll be ordering one any, either to replace mine if the lube doesnt work, or just as a backup for when it does decide to give way

Has anyone thought of racing their Rado?
skinnyman9000 replied to SpencerTramm's topic in General Car Chat
Most rado's struggle to remain in one piece on the daily commute, you sure racing is a good idea  -
One of the guys at work has been through various corrados. Due to the fact the throttle backs off when you lift the pedal he seems to think its the throttle cable getting caught. Had a check when i got in and it does feel pretty lax under the bonnet, not as tight as it should be. Apparently this is a common 'corrado problem area' (what isnt!) This true?

So, at the weekend i attacked my brakes because they were binding. To cut a long stort short i replaced the rear calipers and pads, put a new handbrake cable on, and bled the entire system. Didnt take it for a drive on sunday due to a slightly heavy satuday night, so i decided to try it tonight. Started it on the drive, it hasnt moved for about 10 days so it ticked over at 1500rpm, blipped the throttle and it brought it back down to 1000rpm, all good. So, literally 1 min into my drive the throttle went awol. I'd dip the clutch to change gear and the revs would just climb! The throttle was stuck on, lifting the pedal slowed it down slightly. So now queue me driving home trying to change gear with my left foot, then with the right my toe is lifting the throttle and my heal is pressing the brakes! Got home onto the drive and stopped the engine. Started it again and the engine just continues raises and falls between 1k-2k, up and down, none stop. Look under the bonnet, the throttle cable isnt moving up still response when you use that, so i let go of it again and it just kept doing the same, raising and falling in revs. Any ideas people? On a positive note though the brakes work fine now!

Its always the red valvers!! Try spending £2200 in 18 months, then come back and tell me how you feel

18-24 months, not sure on the exact date without looking. All i know is that car tax and mot comes round far too fast :(

I heard rumours of the next generation VW TDi engines being able to kick out over 100mpg. This true? -

I've just pulled out my receipts folder to do some maths to see what this car has cost me. Now, ive owned it for 18months, and it has cost me on average £120 a month in repairs. HOWEVER, this is where i destroyed my mums argument. Its cost me £2200 to fix in the past 18months, BUT its got a rebuilt engine, entire braking system, and various other bits replaced, PLUS, it hasn't decreased in value. I could still sell it for the £1800 i paid for it. Now on the other hand, my mum has a ford focus. Now according to autotrader her car has decreased in value by £3k in the 18 months she has had it. So to reflect. If my mum and me both sold our cars now, she would have lost more money than me. Despite her having a newer 'normal' car. So basically, it is cheaper for me to 'throw' money at the rado, than it is to buy a new normal car and suffer from depreciation. When i showed her the maths behind this her argument just fell over and she agreed with me Game, set, match!

The AA had it down as a VW collerado (4x4) clowns!!

They're stunning cars, i'd definately have one on lease if i had a spare £500 a month
-
True. The point i was trying to make to them was that i would only sell it to get a VR6, but the money i'd need to buy a decent one i could spent on whacking a turbo on the one ive got, considering its only done 2k since the rebuild it would be the perfect time to do it. I wont be, but still. Its not the money that bothers them i think, its the fact that there is always something wrong, even if its a small niggle. They want me to buy a 'normal' car. Like my mums old escort. My dad sold it to his mate for £600 with 12 months tax and mot, and he hasnt had any problems with it at all. Until the headgasket went and he scrapped it. Ok he didnt have any problems with it, but it cost him £600 to run it for 6 months, which is alot more than my C costs in repairs.
-
I think a Leon Cupra R is the only car i'd considering replacing the C with. There is a red one at work, looks stunning every time i see it. There are a few 2004 plate ones on autotrader, they go for around £9-10k with about 40k on the clock

My parents keep attempting to convince me to sell the rado. Its a tornado red 1990 1.8 16v. It cost me £1800, and ive spent over £2000 on it in the 14 months ive owned it. But for this money its had the front wing and roof dent repaired, the engine has been fully rebuilt, and the entire brake system has been replaced. The latest thing to go was the oil pump, which cost £150 to sort. Since then they keep telling me to sell it and buy a 'normal' car. My mum keeps telling me about people that are selling their 1.4 Fiestas etc and keeps telling them im interested, when im clearly not. They dont seem to understand that the more i replace the less things can go wrong. The engine is SOLID, the whole braking system is brand new, ive had new front seats in and replaced various trim too. The only thing that needs sorting is the paintwork. I've told them that the only way i would sell it would be to buy a G60/VR6. And when ive sold it (would get around £1500) and then spent a futher £3.5k towards a decent VR6 i'd rather turbo the existing lump, IF i wanted the extra power a vr6 would offer. Essentially, why dont they understand that you cannot possibly sell your corrado to replace it with a 'normal' car?!?!?!

Cough *bollocks* cough

Sound. I'll have to get the boys round at the weekend then with promises of bacon sarnies and tea!

Anyone got a run through of the best way to bleed the entire brake system? My dad has been helping me this weekend, but he's used to capri's/escorts/cortinas etc
-
Is there a certain type i should be using? Im having issues after replacing one of my calipers. After doing a search it doesnt look like its a small task! Im going to flush the brake system, replace the fluid and bleed all the calipers. Hopefully this will solve my problem as i REALLY dont want to have to start playing with the master cylinder!
-
Tell me about it! Its gone wrong again now, got in the car today and there is still no pressure in the brake pedal! Time to replace the fluid again and bleed all the calipers, if tha doesnt work im looking at master cylinder me thinks
