1. I may be able to help with a Mk2 solid mount. There's one around here somewhere; just a case of finding it. Made by EPI IIRC. I'll have a hunt for it later and let you know.
2. I've had a 'wanted' up for one of these for more than a couple of weeks.... got nothing. Only likely, I s'pose if someone's junking their seats. Mind you, thinking about it, I'm pretty sure they're the same as the ones in the Mk2, Mk3 and contemporaries, so maybe the net can be spread a bit wider. Might even fit from a more recent model....
3. Well sussed guys. It is indeed a throttle cable bracket, apparently left over from my OBD2 conversion. One of the options that was considered at the time, I've just been told.
4. My Corrado only seems to generate large bills, unfortunately... ---------- Post added at 9:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 9:34 PM ---------- No new scuttle panel fitted. It's obviously a bracket of some sort. It was just lying loose near the wiper motor. Whatever it is it looks fairly new. Puzzling...
5. Anyone know what this is? I found it loose in the scuttle.
6. I'm now a definite for a carbon/fibreglass bonnet at £400. What stage is this at now?
7. I have my lock in the vertical position intentionally so that the alarm doesn't unlock the tailgate/ boot. What I do get is the alarm going off when it's disarmed if I have the tailgate open for more than about a minute. Even when the alarm's reset to disarm it still keeps going off regularly. Very annoying. Haven't thought off trying it with the lock horizontal to see if that stops it from happening until just now... Anyone else have this issue?
8. Doesn't the interior light come on when you open a door anyway? Why do you need it to come on before? Just asking...
9. Could well be interested in the 6-branch. Who made it?
10. And doors? Would be cool to be able to get bonnet, wings, doors & tailgate (and poss roof... tho' not for me) all in one deal and perhaps a package like this might attract more discount? I'm already a defo maybe for a bonnet (subject to an agreement on a damage claim I'm trying to resolve) and would be very interested in a tailgate, wings and some doors but as ever it all depends on price.
11. I'm up for wings, tailgate & bonnet in carbon/kevlar in preference to fibreglass and would definitely want it painted. I'm pretty sure I've seen different colour ways in carbon fibre stuff in addition to the usual but I'm damned if I can remember where. IIRC there was a blue/black and a green/black as well as yellow/black. Have I got that right or have I imagined it? EDIT Pure carbon is black; carbon/kevlar is black/yellow and other colour ways are possible by mixing carbon with various suitable materials. Didn't Andrew at LWS say they'd get into other panels besides bonnets and roofs but would need firm committment from a minimum number of us to justify making the moulds first?
12. Got mine today and for good measure ordered another to keep as a spare. I got 3.5% discount. I was told that's all you can get now for any Corrado parts save for service items. destructiv dave seems to have had better luck than me getting 8% discount at his branch... I didn't get the foliage guard I ordered as it is now obsolete and there are apparently none in the stock system nationally. I'll have to try and remove the 3mm rubber I glued onto mine and hope not to damage it.
13. Could also be a vacuum leak, although I expect you'd know already or could be the vehicle speed sensor. The 99.9mpg fault was also a common problem in Mk1s caused by a corroded connector in the wiring from that sensor, and in all models with a vacuum feed to the speedo coming adrift or getting blocked, as Wullie says.
14. Yeah, ordered mine for collection tomorrow, along with a load of other things. Since I had an abortive attempt to fix my seal by glueing a sheet of 3mm rubber to it, I orderd a new foliage guard, too. The part that's obsolete is the one in the intake shown right under the foliage guard seal in the ETKA illustration. That caused some confusion for a while at TPS and most likely my mate's VAG buddy.
15. I've had the same problem ever since I did an OBD2 conversion a few years ago using parts from a '96 Mk3. Like you, only the MPG readout is faulty and is stuck at 99.9. For VR6 cars tfrom '93 on, the Bentley manual indicates that if the distance travelled and average speed readings are accurate, the fault lies either in the fuel consumption signal from the ECU or the wiring between the ECU and instrument cluster. If those are both good then you need a new circuit board in the instrument cluster. Quite what "the fuel consumption signal" amounts to exactly I don't know, but I believe the actual MPG calculation is done in the cluster, so presumably it's a total consumption figure sent from the ECU which the cluster then uses with distance travelled from the speedo to derive an average consumption value. This is conjecture on my part, however, and I am probably wrong. To check the fuel consumption signal from ECU the Bentley manual indicates the following:- "... see Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), checking using VAG1551, Repair Groups 01 & 24, Fuel Injection & Ignition". I only found out about the fault recently through a thread here. I was blissfully ignorant before, thinking it was due to the conversion but found I had been misinformed and that others who'd taken the same route all had accurate readouts. It recently occurred to me to test fit a different OBD2 ECU to see if it works then, but I'm going to Stealth in a couple of weeks and will get it all checked out then. LOL I just re-read your post and realised you ahve a 9A not a VR... I'll dig out the manual and see what it says. EDIT Bentley doesn't cover the 9A engine, I've just realised...
16. So much for my mate's contacts at VAG then LOL. Good to know twy are still available. Save a lot of hassle. There's a TPS just up the road from me, I'll drop in tomorrow and try & get one, or even two (and various other bits I need... does it ever end?) myself.
17. A mate tried for me through his contacts at VAG. I gave him the part number. It was a good five or six weeks before Christmas, possibly more. Odd that you got one. Did they have it in stock or order it in? And most importantly, where did you get it from?
18. It's a matter of personal approach, but I'm with you all the way on doing it properly, Ron. I intend keeping my VR indefinitely and am not so bothered within reason how much it stands me in as whether it's how I want it, whether it's reliable and will last into the future, so if a job's to be done on the car it's got to be done as well as possible. I'm trying to restore mine to mint condition and want to keep it that way. If the car's just a tool it's a different issue altogether, of course. Chacun a son gout.
19. I've had the same problem. Most likely the culprit is the foliage seal and as the front gets waterlogged the water is just running to the back under acceleration or when going uphill, maybe. The fact that the carpet is wet in the centre makes sense, if that's the case. It's unbelievable how much water can get in through that air intake. Good idea to check the door membranes, as davidwort suggests, and also the sunroof drains (do front and rear while you're at it), check the door seals & door drains, check the arch bonding to the body for rot, ensure the windscreen's not leaking and make sure the heater matrix is sound. I think that should cover it, but most likely you'll find the main ingress is through the air intake. Get the carpets up and take the felt out to dry. My felt was absolutely saturated, sodden in fact, and I had to hang it over the bath overnight to drain. It then took 2 days to dry on a radiator and now looks sorry for itself and needs to be replaced. I left the piece in the footwell in place because only the lower section was wet, bent a wire hanger to shape and lodged it underneath to let the air get to it. I left the carpet in but pulled up to the tunnel and it dried fairly quickly as it's so thin. Just put the heater on to floor setting for a few days when driving.
20. Is it the case that because of UV light penetration through carbon fibre, there is a risk of the adhesive between a carbon fibre and fibreglass moulding degenerating over time (subject to the strength of the sunlight), and so for longevity the moulding should be painted?
21. I tried to buy a foliage guard seal a month or so back from VW and was told they're obsolete. A man who knows these things suggested I try butyl strip.
22. I did part of a welding course a couple of years ago but had to give up due to health issues. Very scary at first LOL. Learned the basics of mig tho'. Setting it up was always tricky. I don't have any light or power in my garage - rented council job in the city - but hope to remedy that soon as and get stuck in, if poss. Certainly enjoy DIY.
23. Good to hear, mate. Just wondering if you've got away with single phase power. What welding set have you used?
