found problem air filter box had chafed 4 cables in loom 1 being a live another earth feeding back to the fuse box causing the earths to have a live feed i wouldnt have even looked as the problem was the fuse blowing the other side bob the guy at rms diagnostic 07727065968 was brilliant anyone in east kent he,s your man for electics the time and bother he put in plus the price was fantastic thank you all for your input

went to a local engine rebuilder who got them individually mine was just the front at £6.33

cheers matey ive tried disconecting as much as i can with no change looks like fuse box or the alarm dunno the alarm keeps changing when i set it any way thanks once again

changed ignition switch changed clocks still the same put it all back now the headlights flash with the hazards on all the other syptoms as well running out of ideas helppppppppppp

problem started with low noise from horn now its live all the time with or without igi on that was a week ago now added to that brake warning light on with ignition on put hazards on it flashes with the indicators turning left blows fuse on indicators turn right ok put lights on dash flashes with hazards oooer put new indicator slalk and wiper stalk on changed every bulb on car it has a toad 606 alarm which works ok except stopped flashing indicators when arming or dissarming any help gratefully received

ITS HELD ONLY AT THE FRONT IT WILL DISENGAGE FROM THE PUMP OK YOUVE GOT TO TAKE THE CAM BELT OFF TAKE THE SPROKET OF 2 BOLTS SEAL FLANGE AND OIL SEAL THEN IT WILL SLIDE OUT BEARING IS ABOUT £7 MINE WAS SO KNAKERED IT CAME OUT NO PROBLEM HERES HOPEING THE ONLY THING THAT I THINK CAUSED THIS IS WRONG TENSION ON CAMBELT ABOUT 20K MILES AGO GOOD LUCK just a thought as the only thing the shaft drives is the oil pump might be the pump itself worn ?

it should turn freely you dont have to touch crank but you have to drop engine or take engine up to get the shaft out just had to do this as bearing had failed on mine

looking at the haynes manual for the passat with kr & 9a it just says dohc engine so would think they are the same

i guess it takes a live from the relay could that make it play up if duff or not connected i guess its the right fan relay fitted should match the numbers above part number i quoted

thermal switch / for models with towing facility / and / for models with radiator fan run-on / F >> 50-N-035 000 100C M10X1 1 pin yellow / KR,9A (32) 281919369 part number shows this on ekta for all years of 9a

as this has resurfaced and just been reading a few pages has anyone mentioned the fan switch on top of the head next to the oil filler its a one wire thermoswitch you can test the wire with engine running by earthing on cam cover fan comes on spade terminal broke on mine so got new switch if youve done this sorry just a thought
