  1. When I bought my 1990 Corrado it had a de-badged grill. At first it looked good, but after a couple of years I put the original back on and it looks much better. As for the rear I'd leave it as like one of the other thread says, you won't be able to put them back in exactly the same position so have a good think. I'm getting my Corrado re-sprayed in the summer and have decided to keep mine. Lets us know what you decide.... Stefan
  2. Did the same occur with your hazard warning lights? On four occassion now, when putting my hazard lights on, the dash indicator stays on but the lights don't flash at all on the outside..... Stefan
  3. Yeah have just seen your location. No problem. Stefan
  4. The car is back at JMR (see 'Lucky but costly escape' in Genereal car chat) so I will get a photo of it next week. As for the cost, it wasn't cheap as John had to order a wiper from VW and modify it. I'll check my receipt and let you know later on. Stefan
  5. Right, well I have a flat in Ealing W5 3NW. The block has an underground Car Park which did have a couple of spare spaces. Some of my neightbours don't use them or they rent out their flats but not the spaces. I don't live there at the moment as I too rent mine out. I am going down there tonight so will have a nose about tonight and let you know. If my camera is charged I will get a photo for you. What work will you be doing? The reason for asking is that I'm sure some of the nosier neighbours might ask. It's not guaranteed as like I said I have not been over for a while but fingers crossed. I'll let you know tomorrow morning... Stefan
  6. Did you want a garage or a space in an underground car park? How long was it for?
  7. Got my rear wiper converted to the aero style by JMR. Now all match and look great.
  8. Saw this on ebay today..... Thought they went up to an 'N' plate... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-Volkswagen-C ... dZViewItem
  9. Another short list: 1. 1996 'N' Fiat Punto 1.9 Diesel 2. 1997 'P' VW Golf Cabriolet 3. 2002 '52' Suzuki GSX-R600 4. 1990 'G' 1.8 16v VW Corrado (Present)
  10. They are o.k. I have had it coming up to four years and I brought it down to London from Preston. The subframe itself was 204.00 + VAT... quite a bargain really.... Because it cheaper than I thought I getting John to do some other things to it which he recommended... I'll put some pictures up in a week or so under a new thread...
  11. Have a guess? It was ordered Weds and arrived from Germany the next day...
  12. From what he found out, they doubt they wound be making them again as there is little demand.
  13. Just back from JMR and John already has the new subframe from Germany. It literally is the last one from the factory. John was right about being lucky... see attached photos.
  14. Just got off the phone to John (JMR) who has managed to source the last subframe at VW in Germany which is going to be shipped over tonight... I'm heading down there for the day tomorrow to see the damage as he is even shocked. It has rusted from the inside so no real way of telling it was that bad. The subframe has ripped out the mounting point. Again he said it was luck that I was not travelling at speed. More photo's tomorrow......
  15. I was in Poland for a week so I put it on my sisters drive and when I drove it back the half mile, there was a little more play in the steering but nothing to alarm me...
  16. I was going to take it into work that night which would have meant a drive to Heathrow on the M4... John (JMR) said I'm a very lucky man... He only had a brief look last night but said it looks like corrosion. He'll tell me more today. I don't know if an MOT would pick that up (or am I being stupid) From what I could see yesterday, it seemed like there was more on the inisde, but it was difficult to tell. As to the RAC, the first guy was there literally within 15mins and he called his colleague who got there in another 10. I don't normally write letters of thanks but they were so helpful that I did. The first patrol man stayed and chatted to me for over an hour before he had to go and called his control room twice for updates as to where to recovery lorry was. They said 18:00hrs and it got there 18:04, so you can't really beat the service I got from them. I'm going to go on a bit but even John didn't have to take it at such short notice. I had called him earlier in the day just to check I was still o.k. to go down on the 31st for some other work to be done. He said he was having a knightmare day yesterday but when I called him again after it happened, the first thing he said was get them to recover it to his workshop. Again top service. What's that saying about clouds having a silver lining???
  17. Not a good story!!! I had to move my Corrado from my sisters driveway to my house yesterday (no more than half a mile). I was doing about 20mph along Chiswick High Road when 'BANG' the car stopped suddenly and wouldn't move. Thought I had hit something but when I got out and checked, the front left side had dropped and was resting on the wheel which was almost at full lock on one side. On closer inspection the left wishbone had snapped completely so there was no way it was going anywhere. Called the RAC who were there in ten minutes - and two vans turned up... They managed to jack the car up and push it off the main road where I waited for a low loader to take it to JMR in Littlehampton. John (JMR) already snowed under, straight away told me to get the RAC to bring it to him. When it got there, he called to say the subframe needs replacing as the corner of it has ripped out. He also said I'm a very lucky man not to have been travelling at speed when it went.....! Should be getting a call with costs tomorrow.... Stefan p.s. Have a photo on my phone which I will hopfully add a.s.a.p

    Dents

Going to the car on Boxing Day I noticed that some mindless tw*t had climbed on my Corrado during the night and proceeded to jump over the bonnet creating four dents and at leat 7-8 large scratches. What a wonderful Christmas present!!!!
  19. He is based in Littlehampton. He moved to a new workshop in April and has spent alot of money on it. I had my Miltek fitted on Tuesday and it looks and sounds great. Even though I am based in London, I am going to take the Corrado to John from now on. Already booked in on the 31st Jan for some other work to be done.
  20. John (JMR) is great... He has suggested a few things for me to do to my 1.8 16v Corrado which will be done after the new year but as a treat for Christmas, I am taking it in next week for a Miltek CAT back exhaust to be fitted and to have the rear wiper changed to the aero style arm and blade (Johns personal work).
  21. Just got off the phone to John and he is going to get me a price from Miltek.....
  22. They were great, I spoke to them twice on the phone as they had to find out a few additional things from the insurance company. They had the file to hand so when I had to call back, the info was there ready for me.....All for just £3.95
  23. Have you carried out a vehicle check? Have a look at http://www.mycarcheck.com, at least you can check for any police/accident history etc. I have had my 1990 1.8 16v Corrado for three and a half years and have what I thought was a private plate on it when I bought it. At work we have a automatic reg reader which opens the car park barrier to our car park if it reconises the number plate which is VIW 3890, it basically has never recognised my plate so I've always had to wait for someone to let me in. Anyway, yesterday NCP were programming my car into their system for the 50th time when it suddenly dawned on me that UK mainland cars do not have the letter 'I' in them. I later rang the DVLA to confirm and they said it was a Northern Irish plate. I got slightly worried so looked online and found the above site. For just £3.95 I found out some interesting history about my car:- First registered as G125 PSO on 25th May 1990. Reg changed in July 1998 to the current plate. It was off a car in Nothern Ireland (NI) and was legally sold. (Obviously appeals to someone who owns a VW). Was Cat 'C' written off in Nov 1998. Cat 'C' states - Vehicles in this catergory are extensively damaged but may be repaired, however the insurer has decided not to repair this vehicle. It hasn't been reported stolen/scrapped etc so that's a relief. I'm not too bothered about the accident history but just goes to show that I should have done the check prior to buying it. I wonder how many people buy without checking??? Stefan
