  1. I know, - the Americans borrowed it to throw at Bin Laden when he was hiding in his mountain caves...
  2. Maybe, but the strawberry hubba bubba on the front gave my charged air a real sweet smell... Jokes aside, the cooler from a vauxhall movano has just gone in directly behind the grill - ( it's a golf, shock horror!), but Darren did some nice welding to sort me out with end tanks which suit the application. This combined with the pitstop/G-werks new outlet and Darrens Samcos make a tight but neat fit...Can't wait to see what a difference real cooled air makes...
  3. Thought i'd show you a pic of the standard ic which was pulled out before my front mount went in. - May inspire those still running standard items to convert??? p.s - thats just bubblegum stuck on the front honest...
  4. I know it's not a C, but as the engine came from one i thought you guys wouldn't mind seeing my new front mount. Just got it back from Liam at Pitstop who flowed and ported the charger for me and matched it to the new outlet they're doing. With Darren, they then worked in the ic by welding on some new end tanks and fitting the rad directly behind it with a slimline electric fan (cheers daz!) This along with a ported throttle body meant that while running the charger in, it still jumps round to 12/13psi at just 3500rpm!!! Should be good with some redtops and a 65m pulley coming in a couple of weeks... BUT!!! disaster struck when driving the car yesterday (it was driven back from them in worthing to London on thurs. night without a hitch). Bascically, after running for 30 seconds odd, it just loses revs, starts to stutter and eventually dies. You can immediatly start the car again and it'll idle fine for a bit before the same happens again. Have checked leads, dizzy, coil, fpr, and any obvious boost leaks, so i think it must be fuel-related. Only thing is, the isv has a k&n breather on the end seems particularly noisy and pissing out a lot of air. I am hesitant to adjust this (or dizzy) though, because when you first start it it idles fine. If anyone can shed any light i would be v. gratefull!!!!! :?
  5. Difficult to know what noise you are talking about. If its progressive under throttle then its most likely the charger itself. - When they are ported/flowed etc they develop a really lowd howl. If you mean the noise on lift-off then this will be the wastegate dumping to atmosphere. - When the boost return comes off it leaves the wastegate under the throttle body exposed. Combine this with a ported throttle body and i expect you'll get some pretty mental noises, at least thats what i am hoping for when i get the car back from Darren, Liam etc!!!
  6. It will make the car feel quicker because naturally it will be much more eager to rev. Only thing is that apparently they can cause the car to lose speed when travelling uphill, but i think this is only in extreme examples.
  7. Hey people, - my car is down with Darren and Liam from pitstop at the mo, but i really need to get hold of a lambda sensor. - ( As the car is a conversion it's only got a gti manifold on it). Anyway i need to get hold of the loom as well so i can get it all welded in and wired up. Does anyone know the best place to get hold of these? Cheers!
  8. It blanks off the inlet usually occupied by the boost return pipe. Darren at G-Werks sorted me out with mine. Just got back from his place after dropping the car off for some work and he showed me piccies of the VW motorsport car with a similar plate, so it can't be all that bad....
  9. Having removed my boost return pipe iam just about to sort a second inlet. Have just got a blanking plate on there at the moment but i've heard that this puts uneven pressure on the charger's internals. A quality direct cold air feed is what you want really. I'd like to get a BMC Carbon Dynamic airbox if i can find a correct diameter pipe, and run it down under the bumper. Just money permitting as always...
  10. I was having a long chat the other day to a guy at a motor factors who's seen loadsa different performance pads/discs in his time. He reckoned an EBC combo was pretty good, but when i mentioned Black Diamond he said these were the nuts. Venom motorsport do a quality deal with a set of Black D. Discs and 'Predator' pads that apparently work a treat. I can't remember the exact price, but i remember it works out far cheaper than EBC, PAGID, BREMBO e.t.c.......
  11. Steve/Liam /Darren, aren't you guys developing that pukka 1.9 rebuild?
  12. I think they are listed as being a fraction under 7 seconds to sixty, but as we know, the gearbox on a G60 prohibits it from ever doing any really impressive 0-60's. However, drop down a gear with a decent chip and pulley on your side and i think you'd be surprised on how well the midrange compares...
  13. You know what they say, - there's no substitute for litres. Having said that, i did whoop a boxter on a duel carriageway the other day. - We both went off fairly rapidly in 1st and 2nd then he's decided to try and get rid of me in 3rd. As it hit 13psi my 1980's hatchback did me proud and saw the porka back into my rearview mirror. I know they're not that quick, but i just tell people i raped a porsche!
  14. Who is this sad git? - I tell you, some people....
  15. Don't ask why i did this, - must have too much spare time but here's a brief run down on tones/qualities of various poular exhaust manufacturers....If anyone wants to add/disaggree or hurl abuse please do so.... :? MAGNEX: - Old favourite with decent look and choice of pipes. Reported good power gains and a sound that leans towards the more quiet. MONGOOSE: Middle of the price range but good quality. - My brother had one on his nissan 200sx and it sounded A1 as did the system on my mates corolla gti, - low and beefy without sounding at all boy racer. SUPERSPRINT: Much like V-DUBS, supersprint are subtle yet cool and stonking quality. Had full system on old mk2 Gti and it was good but v. quiet. They do two levels, - the latter being pretty much motorport i think but these are only available for some cars and expect to pay... JETEX: Again, quiter hence 'The quiet revolution' slogan. Pretty ordinary s.steel exhausts but looked down upon by some for build quality i think. But TSR do stock them though... MILLTEK: Cracking quality stuff made from apparent aircraft grade steel. Popular with Dubbers such as Tim Stiles who gets them to make his s.steel manifolds for him... PECO: Consider at your peril. On a more serious note, if you are looking to beef up the power by 200bhp or so on your nova sri , you cant afford not to splash out on one of their lovingly crafted pieces of automotive art. REMUS: Was told they only do back boxes but then another guy i knew claimed he had a full system on his golf so who knows. They do come up pretty loud though... SCORPIAN: Bordering on the boy racer i think, and bloody loud on the right car. Not that cheap either... RAGE: A cheap option but actually not bad quality. The majority are universal so beware. Nice selection though and carbon fibre tips now available... POWERFLOW: The opposite of the previous, these systems/backboxes are completely custom made on the car ensuring a top fit and come with a lifetime guarantee. You can choose everthing from tail pipes to no. of boxes to actual tone selection on full sytems. Not cheap, but not actually that expensive either...its what i've got on the G60 now... HAPPY HUNTING.
  16. I am gonna do mine gold, - think would look sweet on a dark blue car...Talking of which, does anyone know where you can get gold caliper paint or very high temp paint?
  17. AAAAHHHH I see, - this would tie in with what Liam was saying about matching his porting to the outlet to get really great flow. The guys at pitstop even said that on one corrado they did this with chip, pulley ( and must have uprated injectors), it was running close to 20psi!!!! :D

    G60 Manifold

Just spoke to guys at volkspeed about this and they said that they do manifolds for the g60 which are actually 4m biger bore than the other 8v etc manifolds they do, -£265 roughly. Did have a tsr 4branch on my gti though and it did seem good. - They're actually made for tsr by Milltek i think....
  19. If you are going for the original part but want to port/polish it, is there any great secret to doing this, or can you port to your heart's content? -( know this sounds stupid) :?
  20. Makes sense now i think about it, - just presumed ally would be better for some reason like always, but will get me the steel one. Cheers!
  21. That's what i thought.... The only place i can think of is where i connected the k&n breather to the end of the isv pipe, - i used a filter with a rubber end so the jubile clip holding it on is essentially squeezing rubber against rubber. Other than this, the charger's blanked so the only other place it could be is from the butterfly valve. Is there a chance that this isn't opening/closing correctly? - it wasn't doing this before i removed the return pipe...

So who's car is gonna be used as B A 's van?
  23. Talking of funny noises, on mine i get a crazy high pitched whisteling on part throttle at low revs. If you put your foot right down in low revs for that gear ( say 4th) you sometimes get a crazy little tune as the whisteling rises. It then disapears after 3000rpm or so. As i say, i've dumped the boost return completely, blanked the charger (cheers Darren), got the wastegate dumping to atmos. with a kn breather on the end of the isv pipe. Any suggestions as to what this noise is, would be most enlightening!!!!!! :? :) :?
  24. Just wondering if anyone knows whether there is any noticable difference between alloy and steel s.charger pulleys. I ask cause Liam from pitstop has been trying to source me a 65m for ages and how now got some steel ones. Is there any diff, apart from the obvious weight loss with alloy? Cheers.

Blimey, so a real A-TEAM effort going on eh guys??? - ( I love it when a plan comes together...) - Sounds quality. Any ideas on how long it'll be till this is up, running and regularly available, and will it be done at Darren's new premises?
