The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
scarlet_vr6 replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
went to VW to get prices/availability on a big list of stuff, mostly trims. Found out that most of it is too expensive or obsolete :mad2: Not that I'm at all surprised. Why is it that VW don't even acknowledge the existence of the Corrado on their website but are oh-so-happy to take £££s off us in their Parts Dept. Bloody businesses trying to make a profit!! Annoyed to find out that the rear VW badge is obsolete as of Nov 08. Wanted a perfect new one to celebrate getting a decent rear bumper :( -
That was me in the Blue Rado! Your car looked sweet! Nice to get a big wave :) Thought your C looked very tidy! Saw Nick in Magnum this morning... you overtook me on the hill down to Chineham Bus Park but don't think you saw me. Car looked lovely :salute: esp as I saw you motor up the hill towards tesco!

Exhaust about to fall off! Update: pg4 = Magnex

this shows all the parts I got when I bought mine (brand new). Does this help - I can take more pictures if you need? resized Magnex 25-08-09 001.jpg[/attachment:b6nktlpd] -
saw one around 8pm tonight heading down the hill towards Chineham Bus Park in Basingstoke. If it was the same one as my colleague saw this morning in the business park, then it's a black M-reg. Nick, was it you?

I don't have a pic of the mech itself but it is just a slightly hooked bit of metal on the underside of the middle front of the seat base. At the bottom of this pic, you can see the hole which the hook sits in. Just push the seat base laterally towards the boot and then lift it from the front in one smooth movement. Once the front is free, pull the base towards the front of the car, as there is a small metal tab which slides into the back of the seat (you can see this at the top of the pic). Hope this helps :) resized boot and under rear seat cleaning 15-08-09 050.jpg[/attachment:3mxr6kw1]

was listening to Bohemian Like You by The Dandy Warhols earlier and thought how appropriate the opening lines are... You've got a great car Yeah, what's wrong with it today? must be loads of others...

took the OSR card off today, cleaned up the area a bit and checked for rust - all looks to be ok :) also cleaned up the sub, amp and associated wiring which used to be in the car... I wanted to sell it all but some of the connectors look past their best so not sure if it is worth anything :?

got a wave from a blue rado G***GJT around 2pm on the outskirts of Winchester today - think the road is the A3090. got another wave from a pale blue Caddy which was only 5 or so cars behind the blue C even got a very long look from a couple in an Astra (think it was an Astra anyway - I was sitting at some traffic lights not paying much attn) it all made me smile. Rados are so cool 8)

thank you. Yes it was the NS we looked at - is one side likely to be worse than the other then?
-
it's so close to being finished and issue-free now! The wheels will look awesome, the paintwork is looking tons better and it sounded lovely :) I was only slightly worried when you remembered the lack of wheel bolts halfway down the road :pale:  I know there is still a little bit of work to be done, but what an improvement... :salute:

thanks Tom :D it's all in the hope that one day I'll have a car that warrants such attention! Yes, Pete's advice was definitely handy - I intend to give that guy near you a call on monday and see what prices would be like. Would be such a relief to have that sorted, maybe the door sills too. I'll have a look at the clips on the other card tomorrow, but as long as you don't mind, some (more!) new ones would be great - I'm sure at least one is broken. good to see you too, and your vr - reckon you'll have those couple of small issues sorted in no time! Really like the wheels and was very impressed with the filling and painting you have done. It sounded good too... Thanks for your help with mine today :)

thanks Charlie :) Tom showed me how to remove the rear cards today - we only did one side but it doesn't look too complicated (I think even I will be able to manage it now!). We started by removing the rear seat base and pulling the seat back forward a bit. There is a screw at the bottom of the front of the card, really close to the bar the front seat belt runs along and there are 2 (pretty sure it is only 2) rubber discs to unscrew which are at the rear of the card and would be hidden by the seat back. After that, I think it is just a case of carefully pulling the card away - there a fair few clips. It sounded like they were breaking but they weren't so don't give up cos of the noise! You can't see the drain hole so stick a camera inside the body of the car and take a few snaps - afaik, the drain hole is towards the front of the car but may be worth photographing as much of the area as you can, just to be on the safe side?? Pleased to report that the side we checked on mine seems to be tip top (phew). Hopefully I will have time to check the other side tomorrow - fingers crossed that it is ok

Speeding ticket yesterday, Parking damage today!

pleased to hear that :thumbleft: looks like it is coming along nicely -
lol, not just 1 year for the rear lights but 4!! and like you say I still haven't got round to the coilies  Part of that is wanting a decent suspension overhaul when they are fitted. I was part way through saving up for it but I have another slight problem to fix first and I have a few plans which is pushing the price right up... :D And yes, Bill's car is beautiful so no point wasting my time!
-
shall I bring all my cleaning stuff to the next meet then Jim?! I'm sure you must have been saying that for about a year now... thinking about it, that might not have been you... oh well, it's late! I'd love to own a car good enough to be a concourse winner one day but not sure if I'd ever have the knowledge or the patience to maintain it. Oh well, in the meantime I will keep on practising on this one :D

another vote for the respray - silver works so well on rados it would be a shame to cover up so much of it imo
-
:salute: bet you can't wait until it's all spot on and you can put it through it's paces! :D
-
:) thank you. Always happy to help out... skills are limited to cleaning but that's hardly surprising (thought I'd save someone else the trouble of having to make that joke)
-
yes please Tom, that would be great :)

thanks everyone - I am very chuffed with those lights 8) I spent a lot of last weekend mucking about with the car. I ended up taking everything out of the boot (well nearly - I couldn't be bothered with the side carpets) and giving the whole area a good clean. I got a bit carried away really as I washed, clayed, washed again, polished and waxed it before putting the spare wheel etc. back and then covering all my hard work with the boot carpet  Corrado92.pdfresized boot and under rear seat cleaning 15-08-09 004.jpg[/attachment:ajkjf44a] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfresized boot and under rear seat cleaning 15-08-09 067.jpg[/attachment:ajkjf44a] I also took the rear seat bases out and cleaned that area up before removing the wiring for the sub and amp from the back of the rear seat and tidying the remaining wiring (I think I need to remove the kick plate and move the main carpet to be able to remove what is left of it). Also need to work out how to remove glue from the carpet on the back of the seat :? Finally, I checked inside the rear for rust. I know the car was in an accident before I bought it but I'm not sure how much damage was done. There is a lot of rust showing now (around the rear badges, behind the OS outer tail light and inside near the bulb holder). I am hoping someone on here can give me a bit of advice from the pics below, as I know even less about bodywork than I do about the mechanical side of things and don't want to be ripped off when I get it inspected at a bodyshop. Any info/advice gratefully received :) climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfresized boot and under rear seat cleaning 15-08-09 016.jpg[/attachment:ajkjf44a] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfresized boot and under rear seat cleaning 15-08-09 020.jpg[/attachment:ajkjf44a] resized boot and under rear seat cleaning 15-08-09 021.jpg[/attachment:ajkjf44a] Next job is to remove the rear cards and inspect the drain holes - hope there isn't too much rust there....

 can't sell now! You should enjoy the results of the effort put in to get getting the car this good! What would you get instead?
