  1. Honestly ian it's easy really. Don't convince yourself it's gonna be difficult before you try. Just use the other side as a guide. Dan, the reason yours wont slide, is you need to replace the rear guide as well as the cable. The cable snapping is because the rear guide is shagged. It's not an expensive fix, and seeing as the sunroof is fitted, it seems a shame not to use it................LOL says he with a sunburnt bald patch on me head......................
  2. ok, thats very informative, but I have a query. Why then does this 1.8 have the plug in sockets for whatever underneath the gear gaiter. Why is it there if it's not used ? Anyway, thats getting away from the problem. Any ideas as to the problem in hand ?
  3. mmmm, I didn't know that. Will have to check. So none of the 1.8's have a diagnostic circuit then ? Any others thats dont't, just so I know for future reference. Cheers Dic
  4. the 110 degree was the same as mine after idiot put in wrong one. have since changed it, but not had car runnign again yet as having rebore etc. It does sound too hot, but i'm not an expert here, only passing on what I have experienced. Try the genuine from vag and see if it's any better. then take the other back and argue like buggery. Dic
  5. ok gonna see about the dizzy. have the vag garage doing a behind the scenes vagcom on it tomorrow, and will let you know what happens. does bring a whole new meaning to kangaroo petrol tho..................lol
  6. Me Again have had a look and can't find anyone who has had the same problem. Only picked car up this weekend, but is tidy, has had new plugs and leads. Problem is when car is over 80 degrees (Oil) it occasionally cuts out entirely very briefly and then is fine again for a bit, then does it again. Its not fuel as the rev counter dips briefly and then comes back again, in time with the car cutting out and in again. Drove 170 miles today and got no better or worse, only occurs when hot. Temps were all fine steady 80mph water 70 oil 88 to 94. I am confused It is a tidy 1.8 16v LHD with 77k and a nice black leather interior which is going in my VR6, but car is too good to throw away Any help gratefully received. Dic
  7. Hi again Yeah, that blue line, never had one leak there b4 but would suggest either a silicone seal or even better, epoxy putty. seals and bonds anything. Cable on sunroof slides out of the back end, which is why you need to remove it. Firstly pull down the cover that sits between the headlining and the boot opening. start at the centr, but beware it is bonded in the middle. next remove sunroof switch panel and motor, visors and handles over the doors. remove trim around sunroof, inside, and gently pull down headlining, always working from the middle, towards the edges there are 10 bolts to remove and the whole thing will drop down, after also removing the drains refitting is careful reversal, have patience, and CLEAN HANDS. baby wipes are brilliant. the sunroof dismantling is easy, everything comes out the back. do it one side at a time, and use the other side as a guide. it is not a sdifficult as most people woulkd have you believe. go careful, with CLEAN HANDS and use the other side as a guide pm me and i'll give you my mobile incase you get stuck Dic
  8. just had anopther look at pics. it is the cable thats broken. When you replace cable, also ask for a refurb kit for the rear runner, as this is 99% sure thats what caused the cable to snap. they are about £30 plus the cable. I hav a spare 2nd hand cable for the right, but not for the left. Dic
  9. hi Ian Try resealing it, maybe a cable tie would do it, or go the never in doubt route with a jubilee clip. Now the bit thats broken. Is it a silver alloy or a grey alloy ? Can't quite tell from pic. The grey one is the riser, and the silver one is actually part of the cable, but both are fairly easy fixes. Either one will involve removing the sunroof, which isn't as awful as it sounds. The US corrado site gives details of how they do it, but there is a lot easier way of doing it. Ie not removing most of the trim. Have done it 3 times now with various corrados, and always works. Let me know if I can help. Left side gone I can see, all mine went there too. Dic
  10. hi as a temporary get it down fix, take off the sunroof panel, just slide the smaller trim inside towards the back, and you will see 4 torx head screws one in each corner of the panel. take them out, slide the stuck lever backwards to match the other and then refit panel from inside. The only way to repair them properly is to remove the whole thing, which means you can't mount the panel any more. i have a few spares if you need them. no charge, just postage. good luck dic
  11. I have an amazing screwdriver I spent hours bending, and it works a treat. Now I've read this thread, wish I had stayed in bed that day, never mind done now and all working again.:-)
  12. get another one . as I said, £60 exchange. Just done both on this 16v red one I've just sold. Have fun
  13. pads maybe, but calipers probably not. It is the entrance of the h/brake cable that causes most of the issues. I have tried the ones from a golf and jetta and they don't fit. If you buy recon, then you also don't have to worry about the handbrake mech. sticking which is a pretty unservicable fault at home.
  14. depends how easy it comes apart. Mine was ok, but it is easier to remove the whole housing to do it. There is a guy on ebay who regularly sells new housings for about £10 plus p and p Good luck Dic
  15. Hi None that I have been able to find. Some are very similar, but not quite the same. New ones are only £60 bucks so save yourself a packet. Exchange price of course, as they are pretty unservicable at home. Have fun Dic
  16. depending on servicing on your motor, it may well just be that the fluid is ancient and crap. Just draining it and changing it may sort it out.
  17. no, but I notice you are from Cardiff way. If your up Blackwood way, about 30 mins from Cardiff, pop in and we'll see if we can't do something about it. Or at least show you where to start Cheers Dic
  18. sounds like my 2.0l 16v when I bought it.Oozing and whining. 120 bucks from eurocarparts , exchange, and now a quiet motor. take the pas belt off first and see if it still makes the noise. if it doesn't then thats the problem, if it does then it must be the rack I reckon Not that difficult to do, when you master the pas pump bracket and tensioner assembly.........have fun Dic
  19. i know the feeling. My engine looks like yours at the mo. I had the bores checked as well, just precautionary whilst the head was off. I had been advised that sometimes the block "relaxes" after the head is removed. Glad I did, as it needs rebore too. Get it checked whilst your in this position Good luck and let us know how you get on Dic
  20. does anybody want to buy mine and make it into a cabrio ? cheap enuff. But hockdang it looks that good I might just do it myself.................keep watching
  21. well, finally back online, and it appears I was mistaken with rarity. Never mind I've learnt something new. Anyone wanna buy a Corrado ?
  22. I will put up some pics tomorrow, but I have just purchased a 1989 red 1.8 16v. So what you might say, but there are 4 things which make it a little rare. No sunroof, windy windows, 5 Sebring alloys and ............... ...........yes..................a Blaupunkt Atlanta that works. Anything else which would make it rare and I'll have a look in the morning. Local guy threw the car at me,well he might as well have done for what I paid him for it, and not sure what to do with it, any ideas anyone...... I have 2 already and I'm emigrating soon, so I can't keep it
