HI Fred here's my limited knowledge. 1. Yes matrix, or pipework has gone,,a nd yes dash out job, or leave in divert from AA and freeze. 2.Temp is fine 3.Probably due to being sat, see how it goes 4.Pass, better to get the car right first then worry about it looking good. 5.make sure linkage is greased and free moving, springs in right place etc. Have fun, I now have 3, just bought one for £150, mrs nearly killed me...........
-
sorry forgot to type the +, nearly catastrophic ehh ? I promise not to do it again................slap my own wrist

temp sensor on the left as you look at them from the front, in the thermostat housing. 4 pin connector. remember to replace coolant with correct type ie G11, now upgraded to G12 I believe. easy job, but do it when cold, and maybe save having to replace all coolant, but make sure you get new rubber o ring for sensor. HI sounds like the liturgy of problems I was having with mine, but I had the addition of smoking like a piggggggg.............bores gone. I was diagnoised with temp sensor problem originally, so changed that, but to ne effect cos the idiot at the garage put the wrong one in. Use gen VW if you do. Try a compression test, just to see whats going on, should be around 125 plus on each cylinder, but this depends on wear etc. Takes about 30 mins to do, and a tester is about £18. saves spending any more until you know. Mine is being rebuilt at the mo, at vast expense.........but i know she is worth it. Good luck Dic

well, eiptuning take forever, 6 to 8 weeks lead time, so no good for me. Stealth were helpful, everyone else don't seem to be interested. shame really I have the money, and nobody wants it...............
-
excellent, thats my sunday afternoon sorted then.................cheers will see if anyone else has a prefered supplier too
-
good idea....................but can't find what I'm looking for. Maybe it's me on a weekend not being so inteligent, or maybe the suppliers forum could be a bit easier to use.....................

Hi this may get a bit boring over the next few weeks, but thought I would start here and bore you guys instead of my Mrs who is fed up of my Rado. Her's is fine you see, so it's all my fault. Going for a rebore on my VR6. Completely U/S at the mo. Need info on suppliers of oversize pistons, rings, bearings etc. want to keep as close to standard as possible, but also cannot afford to spend a bucket load, as emigrating in about 6 weeks and need my money. Have engineers poised for rebore and head rebuild, all taken care of, just suppliers of complete parts I am after. many thanks for all your up coming help Dic :D
-
cheers trevr6, sounds like a plan to keep in mind. Mrs keeps making remarks like bit at a time and working the rings in, but thats a diffent forum. Thanks for the info
-
thanks guys, was thinking about your 2 options, and did the first from tug this afternoon, and will be doing the second from James tomorrow. cheers guys, there's always the info about when you ask Dic
-
when you use sticky tape, wrap it back to front round your hand, easier than a brush and more effective. just a thought in case you were thinking of sticking it all over the seats.....................lol Lakeland is a kitchen and household goods shop.most high streets Have fun

HI Anyone got a vr6 piston ring compressor, so my mech can put the new rings in next week. Happy to buy a cheap one, or pay to borrow one Many thanks if you have. Dic :D
-
unlikely to be steering column, unless something has moved and rubbing against it. 2 mins to check, possibly poorly fitted shelf might do it if it's inside
-
sometimes my valver makes a squeak on full lock. used to be permanent until I changed the power steering pump, but without hearing it it's difficult to tell. could be cv joints good luck Dic
-
HI again There are 2 fixing kits. One as detailed in the link above from James, which is basically new cables and front runners. In my experience it has always been the rear runners that fail, but thats just me. That is a different kit, about £31 per side. Inc rear runner, and new ally catch from rear runner guide. Bets of luck, if you get stuck shout and I'll see what I can do. Dic Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to remove half the inside of the car, as detailed on the US Corrado website. You can remove just the headlining after taking off the visors, rear roof strip, and sunroof opening trim.
-
hi sunroof kit is £31 per side from stealers. I have found it is usually passenger side kit that is needed, I have 4 rooves and they all went there. Frint fogs from euro car parts, with arguing, they will sell them too you for about £70 a side. Stealers are a little more, but same thing. I have a spare right hand sunroof cable if that helps, and some guide bits etc. £10 for the lot inc postage

hi, temp sender for dash on the vr6 is in the thermostat housing. not sure on the others. yes it is a cause of overfuelling. don't boil it, it gets expensive. sender for vr6 from stealers is £26
-
just in case anyone needs one, I have an engine speed sensor(Not cam one) Is working fine, changed in error. Any offers gratefully received, as emigrating soon, and having a clear out..................this is £150 from the stealers. although this one is used, I left the new one in.
-
yeah on the thermostat housing, bank of 3 on on the left looking from the front. 10 min job to change. thermostat might be dodgy if it's been stood, but changing it is a git as you have to take out the housing......or I did anyway. Plug it into a vag com and that might give you an idea. most good garages will do that for very little money, and it saves guessing the auxiliary fan should run on after ignition turned off, but you would need to be right next to it to hear it. this apparently stops pooling of coolant around the engine, and subsequent damage. hope that helps Dic

HI Be very careful, the idiot local garage to me put the wrong 4 pin temp sensor in and boiled me. Use the genuine sensor from VW, about £26. Mine was having same problems, running 110 water . OK now tho. Should sort out aux pump too, it's all linked.
-
not sure if this is gonna help you, but the electrical connectors on the fuse box can sometimes come loose when they have been moved about a bit. A little squeeze from a pair of pliea and they fir tight again. Common problem i beleive on all VW's. Sorted all my gremlins out.
-
don't sell it, you'll only want another one. Bite the bullet and service it yourself. There's nothing in your list of problems that is too expensive. Mine is sick too, but internally, and a local garage screwed it up for me by putting in wrong sensor and boiling it dry, but I still love her, and she will be fixed...................

VR6 Compression Test Results (Head Damage Pictures!)
2corrados replied to VRTrickster's topic in Engine Bay
Rather than fanny about with a compression test, you need to do a full leak down test. This will tell you what the problem is, rather than just low compression. My vr6 has low compression on 5 and is booked for full leak down test next week. Will tell you if head / valves are knackered, and if you remove cams, and rotate engine, it will even tell you if the bore is suspect lower down, or just at the top. Just an Idea -
so then, did you meet 'cletus' then as the poster said he was going ????? not as cool as the plymouth I bet
-
bloody hell, thats definately more purple than my van....................
