I've been reading some of the buyers guides Parkers, etc.. and as usual they insist that a full service history is highly reccomended for Corrados. This is hardly a revelation as these guides allways say that for performance cars. My car is a 92 (or maybe a 93 from reading the guides :? ) and is the kind of car you would look for; 1 owner from new, FVWSH, 69 genuine miles and a stack of service bills, the last one was for £1200  The only downside is that the car is not mint on the outside or inside. It is not in bad condition, more just that the previous owner was never into cleaning it.. ever from the looks of it  The sunroof has a snapped guide which I will fix myself and I have cleaned the car to death and I would now call it in VGC :) I would not take much to bring it back to A1 condition but I live in London and I might do this if I ever sell it. Anyway.. the car is on 69k and the next service is due at 71k but I just don't know if it's worth getting VW to do it. I am pretty handy with the spanner and can do the basic servicing eg, brakes, oil changes, etc. I would steer clear of electrics, suspension, or anything that need specialist tools though and would have my local garage that I trust do that work. I have allways been a petrolhead and have had some tasty cars but seem to have always sold them on when the service was due. Or they have had their service history run out and been owner maintained. My buys have always been sound and I have never bought a lemon and I think judging the owner is as important as the car! Anyway I am just trying to work out the economics and wondering if those little bits of paper and VW stamps really make the car more valuable. I would much rather have my local garage do any major work and do the minor stuff myself

Cheers for that! Had a big chat with a couple of parts guys but they still couldn'g agree the part number or what was in the kit. I shall order one ASAP. Have you got it fitted yet?
-
I've got this problem too.. how easy it it to take the the dials out? Are the just held in with clips or does something need to be attacked from the rear.

Andi and Jim - buy yourselves a nice cold beer and put it on my tab!! The car is purring once again :D :D :D Andi - you were absolutely right, the tracks are marked and so is the dizzy cap   Even a monkey trained to recognise symbols could have done a better job than me  If you guys are coming to the Ace cafe I shall buy yous a non virtual drink!

THANKS Andi - I'll try that now

Update - I have now assumed that the cylinders are names (as you look at the car) 123 456 tried this with firing order 1,5,3,6,2,4 but it didn't work.. I'm gonna try 654 321
-
THANKS Jim, I tried that but it made it worse!! OK I now know the order should be 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4 on the diz cap.. what I don't know is which cylinder is which.. I am guessing the pattern is like this. *00 000 = 1 0*0 000 = 5 00* 000 = 3 000 *00 = 2 000 0*0 = 4 000 00* = 6 therefore 153 246 I don't know much about v6's but that seems wrong to me.. It doesn't seem balanced..

Argggggggggh.. I brought the car ('92 VR6) home to my folks place to sort out the HT leads. I had a slight misfire at just around the 1750 rpm mark. It really was slight and not allways noticable. My mate got me a set of Champion HT leads that fit fine. I have made sure they are all tight on the plugs but when I start the engine it doesn't want to idle and sounds rough  I thought at first it was just a bad lead so I have swapped back each lead at a time with the original but it doesn't help. I can only think that I have somehow messed up the firing order!? The distributer cap has number on and I haven't removed it at all. I have traced the numbers back to the plugs and my firing order as looking at the engine from the front is; 153 246 Is this right? The only other thing that I could have balls up is I removed a couple of electrical plugs/sensors and sprayed the contact with carb cleaner  They were the two black ones just to the right of the engine block. One is nearest to the engine fan motor and the other sits on top of a silver tube at the top right of the engine. They are both snug back on so I don't know what I could have done wrong!? I really need to get out of here today as I have lots to do so I don't need car trouble  Can anyone help!?

Cheers guys.. I was going to go with the set from http://www.eurocarpart but my mate got me these for £41 inc. I will do the plugs as well.

Hello, my VR6 is suffering with a slight misfire as low revs. My mate was really keen to help me out with 'cheap' parts from a shop he works at. He has got me a set of Champion HT leads for a very good price but I haven't had time to fit them yet. Are they any good? I'm not that bothered about having VW ones that will break the bank or super high performance items - I just want my engine to purr....

Cheers dude.. I'll phone the monkeys in Battersea again and see what they've got. They said they had 'it' in stock so I shall pop down on saturday and see what 'it' is :)
-
Kev - any chance you could let me know which dealer you got this from. I phoned the one in Battersea London and the guy didn't seem to know his ass from his elbow. He did mumble something about superceded but he said it was just the left cable. PM me the details if you want to keep it off list. I'm sure your right on this though! Thanks!

Thanks Andi - I have checked and the full closure system does work fine with the key. The passenger side closes first, then the drivers side. Im sure theres a reason for that but god knows what  The alarm is a MicroScan Compact 200. I don't fancy playing around with it so I think I'll live with it. It seems to be just as quick to close the windows before leaving the car as to use the closure system

Hey - you learn something every day! These cars just get better and better :) I will check tonight..

I've recently bought a '92 VR6 and am just in the process of sorting out all the 'teething' problems  The car has a full closure alarm - I feel pretty stupid as I can't for the life of me remember the model. I will check tonight an post again. The problem is that when you press the button to arm it it will close the central locking, then close the passenger side window. If the drivers side window is open it will just leave it open. However if you then disarm the car and then re-arm it again it will close the driver side window !? The sunroof is broken, closed but just slightly ajar until I can replace the cable and guides. I guess it should try to close that too. Could that be part of the cause? I really am pretty much a numpty when it comes to electric but was just wondering if theres something simple I should be checking? Thanks!

Thanks Kev - great info. I have managed to source a LHS cable and guide for a corrado. I was a bit shocked to find it only does the LHS and if you want the RHS its another £46 + the dreaded! I'll pick it up on saturday and try and fit it. Just one final question - if I was to get a whole assembly from a Passat can you remove the roof panel from the rails and mechanism. I would rather keep the colour coded roof as I'm not keen on a glass roof.
-
Thanks for the info Rams! I will definately not be using VW for the sunroof. It might just be my local dealership but they had a very 'snooty' manner and refused to even glance at my car until I had given them £45 + VAT and quoted £700+ for a new sunroof.. Yes - I know they are running a business but their attitude was a bit off.. Good to know that I can just replace the cable. I think this is all that has gone. Did a bit of exploring and I can see all the mechanism and think I can do all the sunroof work myself. Not yet taken out the roof lining but I'm sure when I do this all will become clear!
-
Thanks - I must admit it only pulled the lead slightly off but they didn't feel like they had seized (corrosion) and didn't feel brittle. I assumed it was the plugs as I read through the service history and can find no reference to replacing the plugs. I know that the plugs are long life ones but the car has done 69k miles so I would have thought they would need doing soon.

Hello, VR6 newbie here so please scuse my ignorance! I've posted this on the yahoo group but would appreciate any advice you guys can give.. I've now put 130 miles on my '92 VR6 and am getting to know it a little better. However I have noticed what feels like a slight missfire at low revs. Whe pulling away gently or blipping the throttle at idle it feels like its missing a beat. Its fine at higher revs and still makes plenty of power and I managed to get a run at 32 mpg so I don't expect its anything serious. The car has not seen much use for a while (been in storage) so I have put some injector cleaner in the fuel in case its a blocked injector. I have checked the leads and they look ok so I was planning on getting some new plug and popping them in. Do I need any special tools for this? I have also noticed a distinct whine coming from the engine. Its not loud but it is related to engine speed. I am guessing it a pump of some kind but don't know where to start. I don't think its the water pump as this was changed approx 20k ago by VW. Any ideas? Finally I had a good look at the broken sunroof and the motor seems ok but the sunroof pulls out of line so I am guessing its the 'cable' that has gone.. Can this be ordered direct from VW or will they only sell me the whole unit. I will keep trying breakers in the meantime. I have found the handle to manually wind the roof closed but I can't get the panel to drop the last 1cm to make it tight. Do I just have to live with this or am I missing something. Not a huge inconvenience but above 80 it makes quite a noise... Thanks in advance for any reponses! Neil
