Oh- car is a '93 VR6 with 72000 on the clock..

Hello.. My corrado passed it's MOT today without any problems 8) Only thing that was pointed out to me was that the exhaust system is on the way out. It's starting to flake and one of the brackets had rusted through (which is tecnically a fail but it was not knocking so he let it through) The tester said this would need replacing soon. The car is standard and I want to keep it that way. It has more than enough performance for me as I live in the city. However a few more ponies are never a problem but I don't want to get them at the expence of noise. Can anyone reccomend a decently priced exhaust system that won't break the bank? I assume they can be fitted from the down pipes back. Also he showed me a small oil leak from the sump. The level is still ok so he assumes it's just the gasket. This looked to me to be quite straightforward job. The sump looked like it was just held on with a series of bolts. I assume if I take them out (after draining the oil  ) it just drops off and the gasket replacement should be easy. Am I wrong? I am OK at mechanics but most of my experience is with bikes which are a bit... well... smaller. I assume that the exhaust system from VW is stupid money? Anyone know how much they are? Thanks!

Get a cheap bike and keep the Corrado 8) If you get into bikes believe me the cost of Corrado ownership will plumet.. mine has done 3k since I bought it a year ago.. funnily enough it's been very reliable  DON'T think bike ownership is cheap however  Well worth it though!

My VR6 has a funny 'grauunch' noise when I pull away after the car's been parked up. It only does it when its been sat for a while. I thought it was the front left caliper binding but I have replaced both disks and pads at the front and the mechanic said the calipers were fine. I'm sure its coming from the front left side and it only does it once. Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me how much it would cost for a good bodyshop to respray a front wing. My car was towed recently and they scratched it  I am going to complain and possibly use the small claims court but how much money should I ask for? £200 I want a good job done so only high end quotes please. thanks!! Big Pic of small scratch! http://www.nielrawson.plus.com/images/Carstuff/PIC00001.JPG

Ah ha... but I got them very cheaply  Though entirely legally.. hence the strange question how much are they worth. What did Fox 4's sell for? I think they are discontinued now

Sorry forgot to say they are 15''s

I bought some Alloys wheels for my corrado a couple of months ago. Now I'm thinking of selling them and getting a set of standard rims second hand to put the car back to stock look ot look for a pair of 16's They are Fox 4's and I think they look quite stock looking. Any idea what sort of money I would get for them? The car has done about 100 miles on the alloys so they are in perfect condition (as new) Also which cars have the same stud pattern as the VR6 Corrado? Cheers guys...

Boarder- would be keen to see how it goes. I would like to fit one to mine so I can tow my motorbike behind on a trailer. I've seen them on ebay go for £35 8)

I will be sueing them.. just because I don't like them not because I'm petty. I am hoping someone might have already done this. As stated it will be my word against theirs and they will probably be a lot more prepared than me.. :(

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. A couple of weeks ago my car was towed from my street which I have permit to park in. I was parked in the pay&display area which is a heinous crime punishable with £250 fine rather than the pay and display & pemit holders area which is perfectly legal :( Well I'm a reformed charachter now so have accepted my fine but... when they towed my car they scratched the front right wing near the wheel arch. (see pic) This I will not accept. The car is slighty scuffed on the front bumper due to being a 'london car' and I was planning on getting it repainted if I sell the car. The panel that they scratched was unblemished. So what do I do next? I have been told to write to the pond manager and explain the problem. I guess I will give them two weeks to respond and them take them to the small claims court. Problem is they marked the scratch in the recovery sheet so I don't know if I can prove that they did it. I DO know that they did it though as I know all the scratches after washing the car the week before. Can anyone give me a reasonable quote (max estimate) to get the panel resprayed. Also a good outfit in the London area would be helpful. Cheers :D

Does the 'Traction control' thing make any difference?
Rawhide replied to Rawhide's topic in General Car Chat
Cheers.. I knew it was pretty crap as a 'lauch control' type application but was really wondering if it was any good for snow work. Think I'll go for a spin tonight and find out (metaphorically speaking I hope) -
Given that theres loads on slippy stuff out there I haven't had the time to go for a drive. I read in the manual that the VR6 has some sort of LSD type traction control operated by the ABS that works under 5mph (for snow driving I guess) Does it really make a difference? Can you notice it doing anything?

You'd think that someone with the budget of VW for R&D might have looked into this if there was anything in it. Snake oil.. get your snake oil here!

How was it in the twisty stuff?

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and the dealers were spectacularly unhelpful. However phone VW uk and they will put you in touch with the parts manager in Milton Keynes. This guy was so helpful I don't think I will ever phone a dealer again! In the end I found a tyre fitter who had the 'tool' to do the job and it was done in 5 minutes :D

I recently bought some Zimmerman (non drilled) disks and some Textar pads from GSF and would have to give them the thumbs down :( I've put about 200 miles on them but they feel wooden. The initial bite is not really noticable even though overall power is OK. I'm not sure if its the pads or the disks but I suspect it's the pads..

I've got to find the fueling station that you use if you fill the tank for £40  My VR does about 360 - 400 out of a tank which is a mix of town (traffic) and motorway cruising. The MFA usually averages about 26 mpg which I think it pretty good :D I get 32 mpg on the faster roads like the A4 or A40 out of London

When I bought my car I decided to do the sunroof repair and my problem was that the cable guides had broken on each side. I stripped the whole assembly and to cut a long story short have an operational sunroof with the exception but with a couple of problems. Firstly the piece that holds the cables onto the motor assembly is cracked on one side. I don't think this is really a problem as the motor still goes up tight and the cables move the same speed both side when the motor is wound. I will replace it but don't think this is a problem for now. The little arms that look like tiny handles don't want to go on. I have fitted them with the circlips and springs but the interior blind will not move forward when they are in place  This has really baffled me and I've tried it with the metal panel out so I can see whats happening but the blind will come a certain way then just gets stuck about three inches from the front. I think brute force might be the answer but I don't want to break the 'handles' as they are fragile. If I remove them the blind slides forward nicely  Thirdly no matter what I do I can't get the roof to sit flush. It now sticks up slightly at the front which is very iritating when cruising at speed due to the wind blast. I am hoping that when all the rails and guides are working properly it will go back into place but I can't work out what the problem is. Anyway its the little 'arms' that are really puzling me. Has anyone come across this before :?: thanks!

My '93 VR6 has 72000 and I bought it with 69k 7 months ago :D Still not fixed the damn sunroof though

Just managed to get the plugs swapped out and have been for quick test drive.. quick being the operative word there :D Car pulls a lot better and seems to be wheelspining a bit more than normal too. I guess the plugs really needed doing! The old ones looked nice a tea coloured but the gap has grown to 2mm  all worthwhile now... ...I might even complete the sunroof repair tommorow 8)

Well - yet another mixed result day working on the corrado :? Stated off badly.. I decided to a tool check so I would only have to do one trip to Halfords. Realised the security nuts don't have a special key. (with the three little holes on the socket) No problem think I, just phone VW dealership and pick one up  ..erm we don't have that part sir... your car is 10 years old... we can damage your wheels cutting it of but we can't do it this year  Ok - keep calm - phone another dealer and same result. So I phone VW head office who are very helpful. I get given the name of the manager at the part department at Milton Keynes who is really helpful. He offers to let me use the master set and get a new one cut :D but I'm impatient so decide to get a local tyre shop to have a go. I pop in the car that has been standing up (outside) for 1 month and am pleased that it start pretty easily. Get one mile up the road and stall at a junction and the car refuses to start  After pushing the car about 100m to somewhere good to stop, whilst seething about not renewing my AA cover this year  I try and start the car again. After a couple of minutes a bloke appears from nowhere and ask's if I'm having a problem. It turns out he's a mechanic and manages to start the car :D He didn't do anything other than pump the accelarator whilst the engine was turning but the car start and seems to run well again. He won't accept even a fiver for a beer.. Maybe things are looking up after all. On the way see a tyre shop on the corner and get a good feeling about it.... I pop in and ask the mechanics if they can have a go at removing the nuts. No problem they say, they have a special tool that can do it :D Whilst the bloke is removing the tyre I start chatting about getting the wheels refurbished as they are in a very sorry state. He mentions that he has a set of alloys that would look good on my car and I could have them at a good price. I'm not really a big fan of alloys as I prefer the factory look but decided to have a look at them. Well - I now have four Fox 4's fitted to the car... and the best bit is that all fitted, balanced and new wheelnuts all round for £30 a corner. Result! They are 15" but still look quite good on the car and are a damn sight cheaper than a refurbishment job so I'm pretty pleased. Whilst they are doing the wheels I decide that I really have had enough of the day so I ask them to fit the disks and pads that are in the boot that I was planning to fit myself 8) The car seems to be running and starting well now but I couldn't swap all the plugs due to having too small a wrench :x The old plugs were looking pretty tired so I look forward to a nice strong engine again when I swap the others tommorow  Anyway a (bad) pic of my new alloys :D

Thanks Kev - is there anything you don't know! I think I may have to invest in an impact driver tommorow.. and a socket that will remove the security nut on the wheels.. hope the VW dealership has one in stock.
