  1. Quick update to this thread, I fired the car up tonight and the CC seems to be working pretty well. One of the actuators seems to be stuck as I can hear it trying to operate on most settings and I've not had the system gassed up yet so it'll not do cold but we seem to be getting there. Unfortunately it doesn't quite move forward from here as the head gasket isn't right so the engine's coming to bits again, but that's another story!
  2. So this evening I started up my engine after the rebuild, fired up first time and all seemed OK until I noticed the small bubbles of oil at the number 1 cylinder end of the cylinder head. :( I know everything was clean, very clean, and I know the head was flat, and of course I also know that the head bolts were tourqued to the right number and then 180 degrees etc. I know as I did it all myself. I also know that it's coming to pieces again, guess I'll have the head skimmed this time just to be on the safe side. Only thing I don't know for the moment is which head gasket I'm going to use, do I go for old type or shall I be brave and fit another steel one???
  3. Here you go Mark, sorry but can't open the door any further at the moment as there's a wall in the way and the C's got no wheels. Tony

    Passat help !!

Just to lighten things up a bit, obvious it's a woman's car, mine always looks like this when my wife lends it back to me!

    Passat help !!

Not sure if it's the same on the Passat but on my S3 if you "press and release" the Reset button rather than "press and hold" it switches off the display. The S3 button is under the right stalk if that's any help? Cheers, Tony
  6. If you can't get them working and really need heated seats I have a pair of grey leather (working) heated seats that I'd consider swapping for your unheated Recaros :)
  7. I can see a few of those being snags  Don't be put off though, you know it'll be worth it. Every time I get really down with it I just take the S3 for a spin with climate control on and then remember the days of getting into the C with wet clothes and peering through the small patch of screen that the heater managed to clear. Makes it all OK again!
  8. Thanks for that, I'll see what they have on ETKA the next time I'm at the dealer for that code :D
  9. dinkus You'll sure need that week or two, not only for doing the job but also as you need time away from it as it drives you up the wall! I'm lucky to be doing the engine rebuild at the same time so at least if I need time off the climatronic I can do something useful. I had a few problems early on, downloading some wiring diags from the Russian web site was a start and then CoxyLaad sent me some Golf drawings which were better. The best thing however was getting all the Passat wiring diags on loan out the back door of my local dealer, but as my seperate reply to CoxyLaad says, it doesn't help when you've got a wire you cannot plug into a sender as there's already something there! This would all be OK but I only started by refurbing the rims, I got carried away
  10. Unfortunately it seems to depend on what year build you get. The kit I have came from a 96 Passat although when you refer to the wiring diagrams it's obviously a 95 build and has an input for the G62 sensor at Climatronic pin T28a/5 whereas a 96 build would have the G62 input at ECU pin T68/14. Now as VW never intended to fit Climatronic to my Corrado they generously provided the input direct to the ECU. The bit that really confuses me is that there appears to be no repeat of the signal from the Climatronic to the ECU on a 95 Passat so how did it know the coolant temp???
  11. Thanks Supercharged, that might just be the answer. My other idea was to establish what the resistance of the sensor was at normal running temp and then stick a fixed resistor in the climatronic input. By the way, what year is her Mk3 and what colour is the sensor? From that I should be able to figure out which one I need to buy from VAG. I can imagine the conversation at the parts desk already, parts man: "So you've bought Corrado parts, Passat parts and Sharan parts for this job and now you're asking for Golf parts?" me: "Just sell me the bits, it's hard to explain!" Cheers, Tony

    Pollen Filter

Whitedog Yes, just clips straight over the grill under the scuttle, left hand side. Not sure about silicon sealing although I might have to look into that later, if it leaked before it wouldn't have mattered considering how much junk gets through the grill and sprays at you through the dash vents! Phil K It seems to be pretty free flowing, not actually run anything yet. I'll not be able to tell the difference as I've a whole new fan etc fitted now for the climate control since the last time I used the car.

    Pollen Filter

It's holding the drive shaft up, I only just put the engine back together and gearbox in yesterday.

    Pollen Filter

The pollen filter could not have been an easier install, it's a tight fit and it's sure not going to fall off but it would probably take all of ten minutes from start to finish even if the plenum was full of leaves! When installing, I found it easier to slide the filter over the grill from the ECU side rather than from the engine side.
  15. Of the people who have already fitted CC to their Corrados, did anyone find problems with the blue coolant temperature sensor G62? I have two pairs of wires to connect to it, one from the Climatronic controller and one from the ECU and right now I'd prefer it was connected to the ECU! Alternatively does anyone know if VAG do a two output temp sensor for any other car? I've already had to swap the two pin black coolant fan third speed switch for a brown four pin one with an extra contact for the A/C cutout.
  16. Climate control wiring, aaaarrrrrrgggghhhh :x
  17. Bolted the head back on, fitted new timing chains, guides and tensioners. Fitted new clutch and put the gearbox back in. Got all mounting bolted up and the air con compressor installed. Still trying to figure out the belt run now I have air con, save that for another day as it's bonfire time :)

    Car covers?

There are good and bad points to car covers, consider both before buying one: Good: Car gets protected from the worst of the weather, the windows will not be iced up in the morning and strangely enough your car will be more secure as people cannot see what it is. Bad: You can only really put a cover on a clean/dry car, imagine the mess you make of the paintwork dragging the cover and grit over your car every night/morning if you don't have an assistant, where do you put the cold/wet cover once you've removed it in the morning? And every windy night you'll be checking if it's still there! I've had a cover for the Corrado for years, at my old house we had no drive or garage and experienced all the worst bits, since we moved and have loads of garage the C lives under a cover at the moment as it's a long way from being a runner and it keeps the dust off if I'm not working on it.

    Pollen Filter

Never thought to do a search! Just ordered one from Jetex, £20.05 total, sure that'd be cheaper than sourcing bits from VAG and it's too cold to spend time in a scrapyard. http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/pollenfilters.php?mak=Volkswagen&mod=Corrado&qty_260=1

    Pollen Filter

As my climate control install comes towards completion (I hope) I was wondering what pollen filter was installed in Corrados with a/c or which one people have used when retro fitting? Or do I just have to search scrapyards for something that looks close? Cheeers,
  21. Picked my new set up today from dealer, part number N90539801, 90p each and you'll want 10.
  22. When I bought the S3 I was planning to sell the Corrado until I looked how much they were fetching, of course as I bought it in September 2000 I stood to take quite a drop. It was parked in the garage a while and then we decided it might be nice to tidy up a bit as an occasional driver, and then for some reason I cannot really understand now I decided to put climate control in. Couldn't face the wiring today so rebuilt the cylinder head and started fitting the new timing chains, it's more relaxing. Just looked at the V5 and the car was first registered 1/11/95, eleven years old today. Maybe we'll be driving it again before it's 12???
  23. Monday 1200 and the hole's cut for the coolant pipes, various bits of ducting have been modded and the box is in the car bolted in place, no problem. It's no walk in the park and I wouldn't suggest everyone to just rip out the dash and throw in CC but so far so good. Now for the electrics
  24. I think this is my only real option. Just wondered what you guys do if you get a pucture? Ta T Look around for a plank or a rock and drive up onto it! Then there's always the kerb?
  25. Thanks CoxyLaad, PM sent. Started this morning at 1000 with mint looking interior, 1245 taking a break for MotoGP, dash out and old heater box on floor. The new one sure looks big!!! Might post pics of destroyed interior later
