  2. Hi guys I am in process of purchasing a mk1 which i would like to get track prepped. But i am a rookie when it comes to welding. What i need to find out is if i buy a MIG welder, would i be able to weld a rollcage into the car with it. And will it also be good enough to replace some rust spots with it? Thanks Hugo

  5. Hey guys. I had to go to Mosselbay (a coastal town about 80km from me) on Saturday so I decided to take the garage queen.!! Enjoy! These were taken early morning after a quick wash!! These were taken on my way there!!! And these were takne on my way back... :mrgreen:
  6. Ok guys. I need advice/opinions on getting my seats reupholstered. I don't have nice pics at the moment but I found these on photobucket. It will give you guys an indication of how the colour scheme looks. Keeping in mind most of the interior is grey some bits are black. :? I have to replace the upholstery on the seats. The drivers seat upholstery is damaged beyond repair. And since it's $%^& impossible to get that upholstery I have to change it to something else.... :confused4: I was thinking about going semi-leather. Greyish ofcourse but i'm very open to opinions. I'm clueless as to what will look good. The pics....

  14. Holy sweet mumma. I'm gonna try this tomorrow. My heater only works on 4 since the car had a full respray 2 years ago. I'm gonna check this out tomorrow to see if I swopped them around when putting the dash back in. :grin: :grin: Really ain't looking forward to replacing the resisitors. :lol:

  17. A few updated pics. I moved house recently, so i drove the Corrado for 1700km and my brother towed my Caddy that distance. Here i was busy checking the bolts for the a-frame at the first petrol station. :) This is a rolling shot at 130km/h This was taken at one of the roadwork holdups. And this rollling shot was taken at around 110km/h. We drove through a heavy storm just before this was taken. Happy Dubbin Hugo
  18. Hi Guys. I plan on getting my cams reground. What i would like to know is what degree should i go for. I don't want to buy billets at this time. Mods done to the car so far is: ported/polished head intake has been match ported to the head. air box mod. 57mm stainless steel exhaust with satndard exhaust manifold running standard k/jet btw it is a 1.8 16v KR I was thinking about either 268/276 or 276/276 reground cams? Keeping in mind that the car is not being driven daily, it's my weekend toy..... :D Thnks guys.

  20. Hi Mate. I also havea similar problem except mine drains over 2-3 days. It turned out to be the window/central locking unit behind the drivers seat in the side panel. I still have the drain though, not sure what is causeing the unit to drain my battery. As i checked all switches and connections. :( Worth a show in your case aswell?
  21. Thanks Mate. I'll try and add more water when i change the thermostat during the week or the coming weekend... It's quite funny actually cause the mechanics at VW old me to put in 4L. Oh well, it's not the first time they talked crap. :lol:
  22. Nope I'm running 4L G12 + and the rest is water. I'm not sure how much water it is, but i'm sure it's more than enuff... Thanks Mate. Yeh the clour is nice but i would like to get it resprayed again in the near future. The colour got a little too much glitter in. Will have to see what happens.... :D Hi Mate. The top hose is hot untill around 80-85 degrees before the bottom one starts warming up. I must add that the bottom one never gets as hot as the top one though. Top one reaches absolute boiling point while the bottom one feels about 10-15 degrees cooler. Thanks Mate i'll check that aswell. I checked for air locks last night, but didn't find any. Btw, i ordered a blue coolant cap, as i still have the old black type. I also ordered a thermostat, might aswell put it in aswell. Since they are so cheap. :lol:
  23. Hi Guys. Me again. I took the Rado for her 1st drive this weekend after she broke down about 2 months ago. Anyway, i noticed that she's running quit alot warmer than she usually did. She used to run about 90degrees water and 100-110 degrees oil. Now she's up to 105dgerees water and 120 degress oil I'm going to check for air locks in the system toinight. What's the best way to do so? And also what else can cause this? The only thing thing worth mentioning that i changed related to coolant is the mixture. I used 4litres of the G12 Plus. Where i normally only used to use 3litres. Got a few questions. 1. At what temperature should the fan kick in on the 16v's?? 2. What sensors can i check? There are quite a few on the side of the head. (gearbox side) The fan def. kicks in but only over 92 degrees. 3. The fan is a 2 speed but i don't think i ever saw it running on the second speed. What sensor will trigger the second speed? 4. The coolant cap is still the old black type, is it worth getting a new blue one? They are cheap, so i might aswell just get one in any case. 5. What else might cause this? Ta guys Hugo
  24. Thanks Guys. I think i found the problem. Maybe you guys can assist. What i did last night was i first tried a different battery, and the alternator didn't charge it. So before putting my old battery back in i removed the earth wire that runs from the batery to the body and then to the starter. I thoroughly cleaned and sanded all contact. Put it back with my old battery and now on first start the battery reading gives me just over 12V. When i blip the throttle slightly to about 2000-2500rpm's the Voltage jumps up to 13.8V and then slowly drops to 13.5V and stays there, untill i switch the car off. If i start it up again the results stay the same. I have to blip the throttle before it starts to charge over 13.5V. So i assume it's still not 100%. Any ideas? Should i look into buying a new earth wire? Ta Hugo
