  1. Well you could always try Compomotive MO's in a 16 they're a relitively light and i think you can get them in a 16x7 (same size as the bbs rxII's on mine) which fit very well and dont protrude the arch, ideal if your going for a fairly standard look! HTH
  2. Sorry mods if this is kind of off-topic but i fitted a new Raid Dino 300mm wheel a few weeks back... its so small but i'm a tall bugger and it helps make it easier to drive! I got a bit confused when i fitted it by the fact that the VW wheel has a +'ve and a -'ve connection to the horn if you look at it with the horn taken off... the horn though only seems to have 1 connection in the middle The new raid boss though only has 1 black wire yet the new horn press has 2 connections Do i need to somehow wire in an additional connecting wire? i have no idea about electrics unfortunately It seems lots of people have fitted aftermarket steering wheels on here... can any1 advise?
  3. Sorry Goldie, forgot to answer your question earlier, the problem is the key will go into the lock but will not turn, the button presses in but it stays locked... :(
  4. Hi shawshankkid, reading your initial post you say all in it'll cost £450? being a 39 year old without an accident on your record then i'd imagine you have a very low or no excess and possibly protected no-claims, how much do your insurance company believe your G60 is worth because i have some work done on my 1st golf about 3-4 years ago when some stupid woman decided not to use her brakes at a junction in a car park but use my front wing instead and it needed a new wing new bumper new lower grill new wheel trim + spraying and fitting labour it was about £700 The golf was on my policy as being worth £2000 but the insurance company had no problem with me getting it fixed straight away.
  5. vwdeviant, top tips ;-) but i havent had the chance to look at the C yet as i've been at work during the day and i've been making good use of my local indoor snow slope in the evenings, i'll have a more detailed look tonight... Got to do it by next week as my 'board doesnt really fit in my daily driver... a lovely micra  After posting this i noticed a few other cl problems people have been having, i'll check the fuses as well tonight as that seems to be a common problem, fingers crossed i should be able to get closer to getting all the niggles sorted out At least i'll be able to open the boot now anyhow, thanks

    Door strips

If you dont want to bend them then seeing as they're held on by foam tape, carefully use plastic fishing wire like a bit of dental floss and slowly and carefully pull along the length of the door. You'll still get loads of rubbish left on the door but as mentioned above a good tar remover usually works for getting this kind of stuff off! I'll be keeping mine on at he moment as it kind of works wth the black plastic front lip, handles, plate recess and bee sting arial but if you've colour coded everythign i could understand why you'd remove them
  7. I got the new issue of golf+ through my door on saturday and i read an article saying that the vw to merc, 5x100 to 5x112 adaptors are dangerous due to the position of the bolts. Is there any truth in this? cos i've seen a few sets of wheels on german fleebay that are the new vw or merc fitment but this little article has put me right off now! :?
  8. Yeah thats what i feared when i looked on the ETKA screen but surely this cant be right, or if this is the only way can the barrels be modified to work with the same key as the ignition?
  9. I had to get a new alarm fitted last week as the Sigma Cat 1 that came with the car when i bought it went loopy and wouldn't stop imobilising the car even when blipped off, it then went through a phase of going off about 7 times in a row when i blipped it to unlock the car! Anyhow the old Sigma unit also did the central locking, the new one hasnt been programed in to do the central locking as at the time the drivers door lock didnt work and the fitter didnt think it had c/l! I have a new Avatal Cat 1 alarm fitted and this works well apart from the problem with the windows and central locking! It seems that when i activate the alarm it closes the sunroof so i'm guessing it would do the same with the windows but they dont work, on the drivers side or passenger. Does anyone on here know when fitting 1 of these alarms could anything happen to stop these two systems working? its very annoying at the moment as i cant get into the boot! (the lock barrel wont work with the key that operates the rest of the car!) Thats another thing i went to vw and asked about orderign a new barrel for the boot lock and there are 3 available for the C non of which require you to provide you chassis number when ordering from Germany, this is surely vital in order to match it to the key used for the rest of the car? I'm going back to the fitters on friday when i finish work to try and get them to rectify the problem but i'd like to have an idea whats going wrong so they dont just fob me off with crap excuses. Any help would be awesome guys thanks Andy
  10. thanks Corradokid135, but the problem got worse so i decided to take it to some professionals who said they could bypass it... an hour or so later it turns out bypassing it didnt help, he ripped the siren out and it was still going off in the bin! Booked the C in to get a new one fitted this friday... Not gonna leave her without an alarm over Xmas, especially all the new shiney bits!
  11. Nice one Supercharged i'll be able change them this week now (thanks to the wonderful xmas post i doubt i'll get the bentley manual through the post for a few weeks)
  12. First of all is there a haynes manual for the Corrado? i had a look for 1 today but no luck! The thing is my new coilovers arrived during the week and they're just crying out to be put onto the car problem is i dont know the correct torques to tighten the nuts and bolts to once i swap everything over. Can anyone help? Cheers Andy The Robert Bentley VW workshop manuals seem to be about 3 times the price of a normal haynes manual... are they worth it? but tbh it doesnt seem like there are any other ones out there???
  13. I hope someone can please shed some light on this! I Picked up my new C yesterday and apart form a starting problem seemed to be working really well. I got up this morning and went out side to start her up but when i blipped the alarm fob it set the alarm off and it wouldnt turn off! Its a sigma Cat 1 central locking one, not sure what type, i'll have a look when i get home from work tonight. I tried pressing the fob again to no effect a and tried putting the key in the ignition turning to on and pressing the fob again yet it still just kept going off, the only way to stop it was to sit back and leave it until it calmed itself down. After about 6-7 tries i gave up, locked it with the keys and luckily i have a daily run about to get to work in. Do C's usually have a problem with the rain as it's rained constantly since yesterday or do Sigma alarm systems often play up. Any help would be appreciated guys as i really want get her on the road!
  14. Jus tlike to say thanks to darren at G-werks as well, quality price mate, ordered mine today! I've got some BBs RXII's off my old mk3 anni so there the 7" wide ones will these look too skinny on the C? to be honest i was never really happy with how they were on the golf but after my TT wheels it was just good not scrubbing the arches, even after removing most of the inner plastic! I'd love to know how you get on herisites, i'm seriously considdering a set of 16x9's so keep us informed how much scrubbage you get! cheers andy

    Lupo Wipers???

Hey, i've spend a while reading through the forum and i've read a few times about lupo wipers being a must upgrade along with the udgraded wiring loom, what's meant by this? Living in Bedfordshire in the winter, all it does is rain so i'm at bit concerned that the wipers are poor! Do you have to replace the whole mechanism? or just the arms - i'd imagine you use the flexible arms from the gti right? Cheers
  16. Cheers for the advice guys, the wiki guide was very useful!! I bought one on saturday, i'll post some pics when i pic it up on saturday... cant wait, the noise from that 6 is awesome!! Its a 94 M plate VR6 in black, 108000 miles, FSH she's a beaut! :D
  17. I always was told if a car was produced with a cat them it needed it for the mot, is this not the case? mines a 94 so if i put a decat on i'll have to swap come mot time. But it was definitely a worthwile mod on my old gti, you could really feel the difference! Also surely putting a silencer in instead of the cat removes one baffle and introduces another, if your aim was to allow the gasses to escape as quicly as possible then surely only the straight through pipe will do it?

    Size Issue haha

Hi LauraJ I cant really help on the size debate, i'm 6'5"! But you mention about insurance, i'm 21 and have just bought a VR6, the insurance is only a few hundred more a year than my old mk3 golf gti 8v (not that bad when you considder the jump in power!). Best bet i found was just ring your current insurer and quote for a change of vehicle. Good luck!
  19. All this talk of weak vr brakes is worrying me and i haved picked mine up yet! on my mk3 gti i had vr6 callipers and 288mm drilled discs, fr pads which were great with the lighter engine set up. Its mentioned above about the 312mm set up, if i was to fit the TT front set up, this is for a 94 vr what would i need additional to the original callipers, carriers and discs? will i just need a set of mk2-mk3 conversion hoses? Cheers Andy
  20. Nice one, very usefull! cheers mate
  21. After a couple of happy years with my mk3 gti anniversary came to an abrupt end thanks to a pot hole + sump at 60mph incident recently i've decided to upgrade to a vr6 corrado so i thought i'd come on here and ask your advice RIP :( I wasnt sure where to post it so i hope this'll do! So anyway i'm looking at buying a VR6, i'm going to see 1 at the weekend thats done a 94 M with leather interior and the only upgrades are some better brakes and an exhaust and induction kit. its done just over 100k miles. Are there any common problems i should be awear of? Cheers Guys (and Girls!) Andy
