  1. 2.8 is just as good as 2.9 when turboing and should be slightly better in the longterm. Its what I have. OBD II is a good thing to have. I would just strip it down and get everything checked first then see what your working with then look at some parts and build the engine offline. You can then look at getting it installed. I would think the gearbox will work, try and get a 3.68FD and a diff of some sort. Ive got some forged rods up for sale that are basically brand new. Looking for about £350 for them if your interested.
  2. Nice one. The things the VR needs on the track is oil cooler, better brakes and better gearbox so your on the way. Dont go near EBC pads theught they are garbage.
  3. 300k!! Bloody hell. Still with it being in SoCal I doubt there is even one little bit of the dreaded rust.
  4. No one have a spare Speedline or Solitude lying about?
  5. Very true, but that why I like silver it looks great on standard cars.
  6. Good find. Never seen that before but looks good. Not aspiring to be another OSV but it has always been my favourite colour and with the price of VR's being low just now I am thinking about having a nice standard-ish example as well. Pity its the other end of the country from me.
  7. I thought Id asked this before but couldnt find the topic. Could those that have a set of the Speedlines and Solitudes please take the following measurement please. 1. Min Internal diameter. 2. Distance from the min internal dia to the hub face. 3. Hub face to back of spokes at approx 100mm radius from wheels centre.
  8. Mmm, might come along if Ive got nothing on. Need to get down south a few times this year I think.
  9. Great colour this. Had a Mk2 the same colour and it just looks so good in the sunlight.
  10. Good work. You would be surprised how clean these things can come up after all these years with a litte elbow grease. The more I see Solitudes on the car the more I like them as well.
  11. I still think the top end is ok, its just that you do get quite a big torque hike lower down so it feel like it tails off a bit. Induction wise Ive tried a few and they dont really make much difference. The usual BMC etc should work, the issue is the intake sits in behind the battery so some sort of cold air feed is good. Exhaust wise Ive only had standard or a silly 3in single box system which was far too loud (was on the car when I got it). The two box 2.5in system I had on my 24v'd Corrado sounded perfect. Just like MicVR's. Other than my Mk5 I have now they are ny favourite car.
  12. Is his a VR? There is a local one to me so might chance my luck and put a note under the wiper.
  13. The car did end up with a front end smash at Combe a while back. Its a very very sorted Mk1 now. I dont think he has passed away as a guy on Clubgti keeps regular updates on whats happening to the car. The last thing was a sequential gearbox IIRC. Bakc to the question, VRT but build in some progressive boost control or use Racelogic TC if rules allow. From the couple of times Ive had mine on the track is all to easy to come out the corner and for the front to spin up as you put the power on, especially in the wet. Ive also got a 2.0TFSI though and with a K04 they are pulling some impressive power and torque figures. If it were a simpler swap I would go with the TFSI but as you have the VR try that.
  14. Yeah there was a while where there was a few on the go. I really want to get a 2nd one now, one thats basically standard and really wanted another silver one but they all seem to be lying low.
  15. Where are they all? Been looking about at sale adds everywhere and Ive not seen one silver Corrado for sale. None on here, none on Pistonheads, none on ebay and none on Autotrader.
  16. Looks into something called Lemiwinks. This can be used to tweak the engine a little. Other than that the usual exhaust etc will help but theres not really many gains to be had. They are a lot quicker than they feel, with a few tweaks you will see 220-230bhp. Best thing to do on them is get some decent suspension on and try and get some adjustable rear tie bars to get it all set up right. Apart from that enjoy, I loved the ones Ive had.
  17. Nice, well done. Brave man going on a damp trackday with Runway tyres on the front!!!!
  18. See Ive turned my boost level down to about 9psi and I find it a lot more manageable. Was out on Sunday for a wee run as I hate not running the thing. I dont mind it beign dirty, its just the salt that I hate.
  19. Is the car in Aberdeen? If it is theres is a guy on Eastsidevw username VR6T (Dave Manson) who can remap the cars for you. He is friends with Vince which is where he gets his base maps from I think. He knows his stuff so it isnt any half arsed generic remaps.
  20. Neither I am so that not a problem!!!
  21. Would be looking at a straight swap at around £9k so wont be getting an M-sport version for that. Its a Sport or SE about 5-6 years old that would be what Im thinking off. Going to have a look at one tomorrow, I just fancy a non VAG car for a change plus Ive never owned a RWD car so it will be good learning if I get a Porker at some point.
  22. Might not have to sell the Mk5 now but Ive thought about going back to a diesel as it would save at least £850 a year. I can pretty much swap the Mk5 for a 5dr 120d BM so Im looking for people that have run one before to give thier opinions. All seems good in the review apart from harsh ride and smaller boot, both of which I can live with quite easily. Remap will bring it to ~200bhp and ~300lbft of torque, thats quite appealing.
  23. Your certianly looking after it.
  24. How about the likes of Pitlochry? At least that fairly central and its got some good roads leading to it.
